Vertical Greetings

So what do you do when you have a lot of Christmas cards to make and you’ve overused your Christmas stamp sets? I say, pull out Vertical Greetings. I was planning to add a hat to the tree, but it was too big and wasn’t giving quite the look that I was going for.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Vertical Greetings - Lucky TIEF

I inked up the tree in old olive and real red on a piece of whisper white. The stamping (or rather inking up) wasn’t perfect but I fixed that by adding the gold metallic enamel shapes! Amazingly I’d managed to keep the real red on the pot and the old olive on the tree – if you notice one end of the ink pad is curved, one is straight; it’s easier to partially ink a stamp using the straight edge. But I’d already planned a little bow and the gold baker’s twine from the trio in the holiday catalogue was the perfect little accent.

Of course, the vertical greetings set wasn’t planned as a Christmas set and thus doesn’t have a matching holiday greeting. I decided to leave off the sentiment and put one inside and highlighted the gold stars by running another piece of real red through the big shot using the Lucky stars embossing folder. Putting the tree panel (matted with old olive) to one side meant that the stars were more emphasised and stopped the card being too symmetrical. Although I did a maths degree and LOVE symmetry, it doesn’t work so well in cards!
