Here’s a clean and simple birthday card using the new Candle Border punch. The border punches are a lot of fun to play with and perfect for a quick card.

Here I simply put a piece of very vanilla into the punch – doesn’t have to be at the edge – and punched. Then you slide your card along so that the picture shows through where you’ve already punched which tells you that you’re lined up. Then you punch again and repeat until you’ve completed the card. Easy! Next was the stamping from Window Shopping in tangerine tango and then a simple matter of constructing the card. I did cut out a stitched shape (the dies are back in stock if you missed them last time around) for later use from the middle of the gold foil before gluing it all together. The multi purpose glue slides a little on the foil so I like to use snail or fast fuse. Attaching this to a tangerine tango card base and I was done!

I’m going to need a lot of birthday cards this year; I’ve mentioned that I give them out at work and I’m part of a large IT department, but I also send them to people who come to my classes. Inspired by Shannon West’s #ImBringingBirthdaysBack movement last year, I’ve also decided to offer them to my blog readers and those who know me on facebook. The Window Box Thinlits dies are really fun. I started making a box, just to see how it all worked, but after I’d cut out 2 shapes to put the box together I got side-tracked by the extra pieces in the set that allow you to decorate the box with cutouts. And I remembered that there was a card using the top of the box cutout which I really liked. So here’s a CASE.

I started by using an aquapainter with sweet sugarplum, flirty flamingo and mint macaron just putting colour onto a piece of whisper white and then seeing how it looked. It was okay, but I decided I wanted the mint macaron mostly where the leaves were. Luckily, I hadn’t thrown out my first attempt at the cut out when I’d forgotten to use the precision plate and it hadn’t cut completely. So I used it as a template to paint mint macaron into the right areas this time using a piece of watercolor paper. Then I filled in the rest of the areas with the other two colours. Here’s how it all looked at this point.

After stamping the sentiment, from Window Shopping, I added dimensionals to the whisper white allowing enough space for the watercolor paper to fit in the middle. I applied fast fuse to the back of the watercolour paper and then holding both pieces carefully, added them to the mint macaron card base. I think that a banner across the cut out as featured in the catalog (page 43) would be good because it would allow a dimensional under it. But I really wanted to show the whole pattern. I’m definitely playing with this technique again, it’s fun and relaxing.
