Sweet Cupcake Glimmer Paper

I was playing with the glimmer paper at the weekend and figured it would work really well as a cupcake paper. So I had a go with the Sweet Cupcake set and the matching Cupcake Cutouts Framelits Dies.

I used just sweet sugarplum for the cupcake which is made up of three separate stamps. The least detailed was stamped off twice, the next one was stamped off once and the most detailed was full strength sweet sugarplum. I cut that out with the Cupcake Cutouts framelits dies and also cropped a piece of the glimmer paper for the base and the sweet sentiment.

For the construction, I used a sponge dauber on the silicone craft mat to get glue on the back of the sentiment without getting too much. The top of the cupcake is glued to the whisper white layer with the gorgeous glimmer paper liner popped up with dimensionals. I added all of this to a sweet sugarplum base and that was it. Easy peasy.

Don’t forget that you can only earn the glimmer paper freebie through the end of this month.

Sweet Cupcake Photopolymer Bundle

Today’s project is another massive card – our recruiter at work has taken a job elsewhere and we’re going to miss her and I knew that a regular sized card would not be enough to hold all the good wishes from the IT department. So it’s a complete sheet of 8 1/2 by 11 inches folded in half.

Tara is quite a fan of my baking; she can frequently be found in my cube checking to see if the red box that contains my baking is there and complaining if it is missing for too long. So the sweet cupcake bundle seemed the perfect set for her card.

For the top of the cakes I used blushing bride stamped off once for the first image – the one that covers pretty much the entire cake. Then I used blushing bride for the next detailed image and sweet sugarplum stamped off once for the most detailed. I made all three cake tops the same and then cut them out with the cupcake cutouts framelits. The bases are from the 2015-2017  in colour DSP stack in tip top taupe again cut out with the framelits. The sweet word is also part of the framelits and of course I cut it out in both sweet sugarplum and blushing bride before deciding on the latter for the card. Then it was simply a matter of sticking everything down and raising a couple of the cakes up with dimensionals. I also added a very skinny tip top taupe mat to the card.

I saw a tip on Facebook yesterday from Simply Simple Stamping (although it didn’t originate there) about how to glue intricate die cuts, including words. The key is the silicone craft sheet. You place your die cut onto the craft sheet and also squirt some tombow onto the sheet. You pick up the glue with a sponge dauber (Connie used a sponge but I didn’t have a clean one handy) and, holding the die cut still, dab the glue onto the it. Actually you could do this on paper because you don’t want the diecut to move (or you’ll likely get glue on the front) but this is more forgiving – and easier to clean up. I marked my sponge dauber as “glue” so it’s always ready for service. This gives a much better result – there’s no oozing or issue with it not sticking really firmly. It’s a fabulous tip – this is the first time I’ve tried it and it’s a keeper.

I finished the card with enamel shapes in blushing bride and sweet sugarplum. And I made an envelope using the envelope punchboard using almost a sheet of the Subtles DSP stack in blushing bride.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Please use the hostess code to get free product; the current one is GWTDK7RM (if your order is over $150, don’t use the code, you get the rewards, but you still get the free gift from me). Cupcake Cutouts Framelits Dies

Welcome to October and the first challenge of the month at CAS Colours & Sketches. I’m especially excited about the challenges this month because it’s my first time hosting the entire month. We’re starting off as usual with a colour challenge.

And here’s the banner for the challenge:

Very bright and cheerful, yes? When I decided that I wanted to use emerald envy and tempting turquoise, it occurred to me that these colours are in the Festive Birthday DSP along with one of my favourite colours, melon mambo. So I set about making a CAS card with the DSP and I wanted to do something other than a strip of DSP. It took until the weekend when I realised that I wanted to cut out a word. Luckily the three colours I’d chosen are next to each other in this piece of the paper, they could easily had had one or two of the other colours in the way. I cut out a number of words before deciding on the wish from the cupcake cutouts framelits dies. Next I added the stamped sentiment from the coordinating Sweet Cupcake sentiment in emerald envy and a matching melon mambo enamel shape which I confess is over the dot. It wasn’t until after I’d added it that I decided an enamel shape would look better. But nobody knows it’s under there. Apart from you and me anyway!

I then played with combinations of mats until I saw that white on white was much the best. Too much colour was going to detract from the image.

I hope that you try out these colours – they are bright and cheerful, and to start with, a trifle intimidating. But the richness of them is really fun to play with.

See you tomorrow,

Cupcake Cutouts Framelits

This card almost put itself together after I was flicking through the beautiful images of the Serene Scenery DSP stack. This paper made me think of how as children we would blow these seeds off the heads and then make a wish. And since with the cupcake cutouts framelits, I now have the ability to die cut the word wish, it just had to be done.

I cut the DSP to 4 by 5 1/4 inches because I didn’t need any extra layers – they just didn’t do anything but look fussy. I’ve used cajun craze for the card base even though it isn’t officially in the stack but it worked with the centres of the dandelions and it set off the warmth of the photo beautifully. I obviously used the same colour for the stamping (the sentiment is from the matching Sweet Cupcake set) and the die cut. Just make sure you don’t lose the dot over the i if you’re intending to add it to your card. No, I didn’t – but almost!

Since this is a birthday card, I dry embossed the flap with lucky stars. Seems to fit somehow. And I didn’t have enough left from my DSP sheet because I cut it down oddly – I ended up with many strips trimmed off. But this works.

See you tomorrow,

Cupcake Cutouts Framelits Dies

Yesterday I made a card with the set Sweet Cupcake and the Cupcake Cutouts Framelits Dies. Today I decided to do it again, but focus more on the framelits. I also wanted to make a card with the Fruit Stand DSP and have my favourite paper, really shine. So here’s the result of that combination!

fruit-stand-lemons

Isn’t the lemon paper lucious? It’s a bit watercolorey and so the daffodil delight card stock doesn’t match perfectly hence the old olive as the card base. Or rather, it matches, but the daffodil delight card makes the DSP less intense. I wanted to really highlight the paper so this seemed like the perfect time to cut out the “wish” from the Cupcake Cutouts Framelits dies – it’s cut in old olive, the same as the card base. The “Make A” comes from the Sweet Cupcake set and I positioned it so that it was stamped over one of the paler lemons, also in old olive.

I cut my paper to 6 inches wide and 4 inches deep. Then I cut it back to 5 1/4 but that meant that I could cut a 6 by 2 1/8 strip from the remainder to decorate the envelope flap. It’s as easy as a bit of multipurpose glue on the flap, putting the DSP onto the flap and trimming around the edge. I love the coordination.

I’d like to welcome my new email subscribers, I’m so happy that you’ve joined us. I hope that you enjoy the projects that I share. Feel free to introduce yourselves. In the next day or two I plan to share another 3D project, so come back for that.

See you tomorrow,
