Inside the Lines DSP

I’ve been colouring the Inside the Lines DSP for the last few evenings, relaxing at my kitchen table after stressful work days. It really does help. There are days when I get home from work and my “creativity gene” is blown out and I find I can’t design a card. I can copy one I’ve already made or put a stamp set together but now I find, I can colour. And that is actually being creative – much more fun than tidying up or building a wood block stamp set!

I pulled out a bunch of watercolor pencils and decided to stick to pinks and reds for the flowers, so melon mambo, rich razzleberry, real red, calypso coral and old olive. I also used a blender pen. It’s been a lot of fun colouring my own DSP – I have no idea why I took so long to pull out this paper. I also have no idea why I didn’t design the card first and not color the parts under the sentiment, but I guess it wasn’t about the final product but about the journey. I encourage you to pull out the Inside the Lines DSP and relax yourself. And once you’ve done that, you’ve the base for a pretty card – I put mine on a base of old olive and used Suite Sayings in melon mambo for the sentiment. I kept it pretty simple with the stitched shapes framelits dies because the DSP is the main part of the card.

In case you’re wondering about the pot – it’s one that my father made for my mother to keep things in on her bedroom dresser. He’s pretty awesome with the lathe!

Don’t forget that today is the LAST day of Sale-a-bration; so the last day to get a FREE product for every $50 you spend (before taxes and shipping), the last day to get an EXTRA free $25 of product when your order hits $250 and the last day to get TWO FREE STAMP SETS when you join the Stampin’ Up! family.

Paisley Framelits Dies Again

As you may have suspected after yesterday’s post, this one features the Paisley Framelits Dies again! But my pile of copper foil cut outs is still waiting for use, today I used mint macaron. I expect to play some more later today…

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Paisley Framelits Dies - Petals and Paisleys Specialty DSP - Suite Sayings

I cut my piece of the beautiful Petals & Paisleys Specialty DSP to the same height as my delightful dijon card base – 4 1/4 inches and just 4″ wide to give me a wide border. The mat of mint macaron is just 1/8 inch wider – I love how it pulls the mint macaron out of the DSP. To make the banner, I first stamped the sentiment from the Suite Sayings set in delightful dijon on very vanilla. This is one of the great things about this DSP, it’s based on very vanilla. I like the warmer feel that this gives. Then I cut down my banner to a smidge under an inch so that it fit nicely in the triple banner punch. I was determined to get the decoration in that I’d cut with the Paisley Framelits Dies out of mint macaron, I started with a square sentiment and played around until the banner made more sense. So I’m happy to say that the banner was appropriately sized the first time (unusual!) to allow for the embellishment which I glued on using little dots of tombow glue. I then popped up the banner on dimensionals.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Please use the hostess code to get free product; the current one is XD4D794N (if your order is over $150, don’t use the code, you get the rewards, but you still get the free gift from me). Blossom Builder Punch for embossing

I wanted to showcase the Blossom Builder Punch again, but this time without the stamp set. And I decided to have a go at a technique I saw on Brian King’s blog which he calls faux embossing. Martin commented that it was a bit subtle and that the test would be whether I could photograph it!

I punched out a number of the pieces and in the end decided to just use the stars and leaves on this card. I used the multipurpose tombow glue to randomly atttach stars and leaves to a piece of card. I then ran it through the big shot with my precision plate and one clear plate to squash it a little to give more of the embossed look. I think this photo shows it better:

I then attached it to a melon mambo mat and then moved onto the sentiment. This is from Suite Sayings (love this set) from the annual catalog and I’ve of course stamped in melon mambo. I cut it out using the new layering ovals framelits; I also cut a scalloped piece as a mat but it didn’t really fit with the rest of the card. Instead for a little decoration, I used the 1/8″ stitched ribbon which I just happen to have in the matching melon mambo!

I hope that I’ve shown you some of the fun that you can have with the blossom builder punch.

See you tomorrow,

Moroccan DSP for CAS on Sunday

There’s a really fun sketch at CAS on Sunday at the moment and the challenge is open until the 19th. I encourage you to take a look and have a go.

Stampin' Up! Moroccan DSP and Suite Sayings

And here’s the sketch which inspired my card:

I happened to have some of the Moroccan DSP handy because I’d taken a file folder of DSP with me to the crop last weekend. I tried to pack light and only took one folder of DSP – since I put it with my card stock, it had to fit in a regular folder so only sheets that had been cut already would work. This sketch lends itself perfectly to showcasing a small piece of DSP, I cut that first and then trimmed it down because it was too wide. I decided that dapper denim was going to be the colour that I was featuring, so cut a piece of dapper denim cardstock so that it looked about right. Next I stamped the sentiment from Suite Sayings on a scrap of very vanilla and cut it out with an oval framelit. After that it was simply a matter of construction – I have pieces of very vanilla and whisper white precut at 4 by 5 1/4 inches. They are perfect for both the fronts and insides of cards and it’s handy not to have to jump up every time I need a piece. I use a carl cutter which can cut many sheets at a time and just store them with my card stock – along with precut half sheets that are my card bases. It saves time when prepping for card classes too.

After constructing the card, I cut another piece of the Moroccan DSP to fit on the envelope flap – 6 by 2 1/8 inches is perfect. I use the tombow glue and then trim off the excess paper. Quick and easy and I end up with a coordinating envelope.

See you tomorrow,

Liz

Balloon Celebration Save

Firstly – Feliz Cumpleaños a Henry!

When I was making a card for a challenge at CAS Colours & Challenges a few weeks ago, I messed up my stamping and was about to start over when I realised it was salvageable. Not for the sketch challenge that was running at the time, but definitely as a birthday card. I’d stamped the sentiment on my square card and the balloon strings on the left and then blurred some of the strings that were to be on the right hand side. So I cut off the right hand side of the square card going back to a more standard rectangle. And nobody would have known any different. Except, of course, I just published that fact to anyone who cares to read this!

Stampin' Up! Balloon Celebration and Suite Sayings

The sentiment is from Suite Sayings and I especially love this one. It’s stamped in archival black on whisper white as are the balloon strings which are from Balloon Celebration. Then, because I was also working on a colour challenge and got hooked on the colours, I used melon mambo, pink pirouette and pumpkin pie to stamp the balloon bubbles onto the same colour card.

Stampin' Up! Balloon Celebration and Suite Sayings

These were then punched out with the balloon bouquet punch which not only matches Balloon Celebration, but is sold in a bundle with it for 15% off. I arranged the balloons and glued them down using the multipurpose glue.

The envelope flap is dry embossed with the spring flowers embossing folder. I think it’s retired now sadly, but it’s a really fun pattern.

See you tomorrow,

Liz
