Sunburst Sayings Swirly Scribbles

Here’s a card that I made a couple of weeks ago and recently noticed that I hadn’t shared with you.  As you’ll probably guess from the elements used, it was just after I got my preorder and it was my first play with Swirly Scribbles and I paired it with two of the new incolours – dapper denim and sweet sugarplum.

Stampin' Up! Swirly Scribbles and Sunburst Sayings

I cut a number of the scribbles (there are three of them in the set and I used two here) in both dapper denim and sweet sugarplum and played around with them until I had the colours and scribbles where I liked them. Next was to find some sentiments that worked in the insides of the scribbles. Sunburst Sayings was still out on my desk and the Happy Birthday sentiment fit perfectly. I didn’t want two Happy Birthdays on the front though and went looking – the Woo Hoo! comes from the Sale-a-bration set Party Pants. If you missed Sale-a-bration in the first quarter of the year and don’t have that set, I’m sure that there are loads of other options in your collection. Using It’s Your Day from Sunburst Sayings would work although it would be best masked off and made into a two line sentiment. I stamped the sentiments, also in dapper denim and sweet sugarplum before gluing down the scribbles – just in case! Then I used my favourite 2 way glue pen to attach the scribbles – I’ll have to start using the fine tip glue pen soon, I may as well get used to the fact that the 2 way glue pen has retired!

I finished the card off with a dapper denim card base and dry embossed the envelope flap.

Birthday Bouquet DSP

I’m continuing to look at the mound of DSP and trying to use it to make space for more DSP that I know will be on the way to me in the next couple of months!  I was playing with the hexagon punch at the weekend and, having recently used a circle as a stencil, I decided to cut a number of circles in DSP and see where I ended up. The Birthday Bouquet looked right for this and I cut a few circles out of one of the sheets and decided to use both sides on a card. With about 7 weeks to go before the 2014-2016 in colours retirement, I discovered that I love mossy meadow and watermelon wonder together.

I positioned one of the circles off the card (the trimmer makes it easy to get a good right angle on the paper) and then added the other circle to the card. The sentiment comes from the Sale-a-bration set, Party Pants. It’s one of my current favourite “Happy Birthday to you” images and it’s stamped in watermelon wonder. I cropped it with a 1.5″ circle punch and popped it up with stampin’ dimensionals. The piece of whisper white was then glued to a mossy meadow card base. Then I decided to add some mossy meadow enamel dots (they were in the holiday catalogue and were mostly unused!) Don’t the colours go beautifully? You’re going to miss mossy meadow too, aren’t you?

I used the same paper to line the envelope using the envelope liners framelits to cut it out. There. That’s used up almost a third of a piece of DSP. There’s still a LOT to go! Take a look at your stash and use some up ready for the new catalogue. You know you’re going to be buying more soon!

See you tomorrow,

Pedal Pusher Party Pants

How’s that title for a bit of alliteration? Today, as we get to the final days of Sale-a-bration, I’m using two of the free products that I got over the last few months, Pedal Pusher and Party Pants. This is a quick and easy card, easy to mass produce and easy to change by changing the colours.

Stampin' Up! Party Pants and Pedal Pusher

I stamped the bicycle on very vanilla in archival black ink. I find that I need the piercing mat underneath to give extra cushion when stamping this or the middle of the image isn’t crisp. Adding some ink from the re-inker to the pad helped too. Be careful after you’ve stamped, it’s very easy to smudge this. I added the basket and the picnic image since that seems appropriate for a birthday. I then coloured in the bike using my lost lagoon marker and then added a touch of the clear wink of Stella on top. The bike I got at 13 was a metallic blue and this reminds me of it. I stamped the sentiment from Party Pants in versamark on lost lagoon (after using the embossing buddy) and then used the gold embossing powder. Once I’d heated it to the lovely raised shine, I wiped a soft cloth over it to remove any remnants of the embossing buddy powder. Next I used the Balloon Bouquet punch to get my balloon. The balloon string was hand drawn with a black Stampin’ write marker before I added the balloon, popped up with stampin’ dimensionals. I mounted this on a lost lagoon cardbase.

Lost lagoon is one of my favourites of the soon to be retiring in colours. It’s hard to pick an absolute favourite, I have a trio instead – lost lagoon, mossy meadow and blackberry bliss. The other two of the five are close to colours currently available but these three are beautiful, rich and unique. I’m going to miss them. Fingers crossed that they come back in a colour refresh someday.

I’ll be posting later tomorrow – at around 8am – since that’s the time that the new challenge is posted at CAS Colours & Sketches.

See you then,

Liz

Memories in the making – Party Pants

I pulled out the Memories in the Making pack of Project Life cards and flicked through them thinking to use one on a card. I’ve yet to jump into the Project Life arena although I plan to. When I get some photos printed! Anyway, I pulled out an embossed piece of 4″ by 6″ card and decided to sponge watermelon wonder over it. Since I had my sponge dauber out, I also decided to dab watermelon wonder onto the white glimmer tape. Putting the tape onto a silicone mat works really well – you don’t lose any of the stickiness and the excess ink wipes off the mat. A word of warning here though – the tapes takes AGES to dry. Actually, after a few cases lately of getting ink all over my fingers, I think I left the tape for several hours.

I then cut a banner end with my snips and put the glimmer tape onto the sponged card, wrapping the end under the card to get a good edge. The sentiment is from the set Party Pants and it’s stamped in more watermelon wonder on whisper white. I punched it out with the 1.5″ circle punch and also a watermelon wonder mat using the 1.75″ circle punch. Next I glued the sponged piece to a watermelon wonder card base and popped up the sentiment over the glimmer tape. I used the 2015-2017 in color DSP stack to make the envelope liner using the framelits. Looks like I’ve made another feminine birthday card – I’m short of masculine ones again although almost nobody at the office has a birthday next month. Or at least, nobody that I know. So I have time to make some.

By the way, in case you’re wondering where any of today’s products are from, they are all Sale-a-bration freebies that you need to order by Thursday if you want them. Or any of the other freebies because sadly we’re almost at the end of Sale-a-bration. You could pick up one of them with a $50 order which would also garner you the It’s My Party enamel dots. Check out the Customer Loyalty Program details over on the left.

See you tomorrow,

Party Pants meets Lighthearted Leaves

I was looking for some challenges to enter – I’ve not done many lately, I’ve been mostly focused on my cards for the Design Team at CAS Colours & Sketches. But this weekend I went looking for others and found CASology where this week it’s a cue card of DOODLE. Sounds like fun.

Stampin' Up! Party Pants and Lighthearted Leaves and Tin of Cards

Here’s the banner for the challenge:

One of my favourite recently retired sets is Lighthearted Leaves and that looks very doodled. I played around with it for a bit and then decided to pull out my so far unused Party Pants set and realised that I really like the base of my doodled leaf taking over the full stop at the end of the sentiment. I stamped both of these in the archival basic black. I added some colour with my bermuda bay Stampin’ Write marker and looked at my piece of whisper white on a bermuda bay base. I liked it, but there was something missing. I knew that I had a doodled sort of border somewhere. I started a full table scan of my stamp sets and found what I was looking for when I got to the Ts. Yes, they’re alphabetised, it’s impossible to find what you want otherwise.  Well, for me anyway! Tin of Cards has this fun border and I stamped it around the edge, masking off when necessary so that I got a good frame. I then glued my whisper white piece onto a bermuda bay card base and lined the envelope with the retired backgrounds DSP using the envelope liner framelits dies.

I was inspired by this month’s Paper Pumpkin to use bermuda bay – it apparently isn’t a colour that I use very often. I really like it, so I’m not sure why I don’t use it very much. It may appear more often in the near future. I encourage you to take a look at your cards and cardstock and pull out a colour that has been neglected. It’s quite fun.

See you tomorrow,

Liz
