Paper Pumpkin October 2016 – Season of Gratitude

Today I got my Paper Pumpkin in the mail – it’s always a fun thing to see in the mail box. Here’s the Stampin’ Up! video showing how to put together the Season of Gratitude kit.

Paper Pumpkin September 2016 Alternate 5

I saw this box on Pootles’ website and thought that with a bit of a tweak, it would be perfect for my Paper Pumpkin September 2016 Alternate 5 and also for our cookie bake. As you’ll have seen, we used plastic food safe bags and ribbon and tags which is probably a good thing. We made over 75 bags so making paper bags for each would have taken a while! But here is my prototype using the Festive Birthday DSP. I wasn’t sold on this one to start with, it’s pretty bright but I’ve come to really love the colours together.

Isn’t it fun? And the tag finishes it perfectly in my opinion (especially since I didn’t have 75 binder clips!).

So here’s how you make it. Start with a piece of DSP 6 inches by 12. Then score at the inches shown (2 7/8″, 5 3/4″, 8 5/8″ and 11 1/2″ on the long side and 1 3/4″ on the short). Cut out and remove the black rectangle and miter in a little on both sides of the tab that remains after the rectangle removal. Cut on the bold red lines.

Use glue on the tab (snail will do) and adhere that to the other end of the paper to make the box. Then all you do is fold in the sides and glue the back and front flaps at the bottom. Gently hold the top of the box together and push the sides in a little. Here’s where I diverged from Sam’s video – I used a 1/4 inch hand held punch to make holes for the ribbon. I punched through all four layers of paper at the top in 2 places for the ribbon. I used the melon mambo stitched ribbon and tied a basic knot. I then used the Paper Pumpkin kit to make my tag – there are 48 tags included in the kit for the 16 tubes so there are masses left over. I added an enamel dot for more fun because this box is just bursting with colour, it’s awesome! I threaded the ribbon through a 1/16″ inch hold that I punched in the tag and then tied a bow to finish it off.

It’s very simple to make – especially after you’ve made the first one and then you get it. But here’s the link to Sam’s video in case you want to see the original. Paper Pumpkin September 2016 Alternate 4

I’m rather late today due to staying up late last night baking cookies for charity which then needed to be bagged up. Julia and I did this last year too and were delighted to find that last year’s September Paper Pumpkin was all about packaging. The same is somewhat true this year, so without further ado, here’s my Paper Pumpkin September 2016 Alternate number 4.

Bagging up cookies is a great way to use up retired ribbon! We decided that we needed to colour code the bags – anything with red ribbon contained peanuts. These are peanut butter cookies from Mel’s Kitchen Cafe although on most of the batch we decided to add some chocolate chunks. We of course had to test them and can report that it’s a great addition. We also made Mel’s Chocolate Chip Cookies and they got any colour ribbon that wasn’t red!

So we pooled our Paper Pumpkins and between James (Julia’s son) and me, we used up almost all the tags in the boxes (one was already used on another project). Next, after dinner kindly cooked by my brother whilst the cookies cooled, we packaged up the cookies and tied ribbon around them. The tags were punched with the smallest Stampin’ Up! hand held punch and I used the linen thread in the Paper Pumpkins to attach the tag. It was a fun night and it was for charity. And, we got to do what we love best – spend time together, baking and stamping and we’re therefore not on the roster for actually standing at the booth. Win-win.

Yesterday Stampin’ Up! posted the video for the Paper Pumpkin September 2016 kit. It’s a project kit which I know some people aren’t necessarily so fond of, but there are always ways to use the kit to make cards as alternatives.
