October 2015 Paper Pumpkin Alternative 4

I appear to be overachieving on my goal to use the stamp set from the October 2015 Paper Pumpkin on three cards – here’s the fourth. When I decided to make a card for the Fab Friday challenge, this set was to hand.

Here’s the banner which inspired the card:

The colours were definitely hinting at Hallowe’en but I decided to be different. And besides, how can you do Hallowe’en with the Blissful Bouquet stamp set? I’m sure there’s a way, but I don’t see it at the moment. I used the archival basic black to stamp the first image on the watercolour paper and then cut out a couple of flower masks so that I could have the three flowers clustered together. I used the aquapainter and the tangelo twist to colour in the flowers. I started to do the same with Bermuda bay for the flower centres when I realized that it would be far easier to use a Stampin’ Write marker instead. After that I went back to the aquapainter and outlined the images in Bermuda bay. It helps the flowers pop. I had known all along that I was planning a sentiment in the lower right hand corner and I ought to have stamped that earlier – so it was with some slight trepidation that I went to stamp the thanks (also from the Paper Pumpkin set) since a slight wobble would ruin the card. Happily, it was fine. The watercolour paper was mounted on a piece of basic black only an 1/8 inch bigger and then onto a Bermuda bay card base.

I lined the envelope using the now retired backgrounds DSP and the envelope liners framelits. I have quite a stash of liners already cut – I sometimes cut them out when I’m thinking about the next card.

Although I was thinking that it is time to use a different stamp set, I have a couple more cards already begun on my desk…

See you tomorrow,

October 2015 Paper Pumpkin Alternative 3

Firstly, a big thank you to Jaydee for selecting my card as A Cut Above at the Paper Players this week. I greatly appreciate it.

Here’s the third card that I challenged myself to make using the stamp set from Blissful Bouquet, the October 2015 Paper Pumpkin.

I got the colour choices from the colour coach – although I didn’t use the third of the suggested trio – so what we have here is melon mambo and old olive. I started with stamping the flowers in white craft ink on the melon mambo card – be careful with this ink, it takes quite a while to dry. I speeded it up a bit by using the heat tool on the lower setting but it’s easiest to just set it to one side – safer too since there’s less chance of fingers smudging the image. I stamped the sentiment – also from the Blissful Bouquet Paper Pumpkin set, in old olive on whisper white. Then I played around with the length and width of the banner before cutting the flag end using the banner triple punch. After that it was simple to create a slightly larger banner in old olive to mat it. When the melon mambo piece was dry, I matted it with a piece of whisper white and mounted it on an old olive card base. The banner is popped up with stampin’ dimensionals.

My brother thinks this card is “too arty” which he explained by saying he didn’t like the pink and the green together. I think it’s a really happy card. Let me know what you think.

See you tomorrow,

Liz

October 2015 Paper Pumpkin Alternative 2

Yesterday I said that I was challenging myself to make three alternative cards with the October 2015 Paper Pumpkin Blissful Bouquet stamp set. Here’s the second – if you’ve been following my blog (and I hope you have!), you’ll have seen a similar card made a few days ago for the CAS Colours & Sketches current challenge. I decided to do another sponged panel and looked through the colour coach for inspiration but I kept coming back to the colours that Stef selected for this week’s challenge.

This is a smaller sponged panel than the earlier card, but it is again in pumpkin pie, tangerine tango and real red on very vanilla. I then stamped the flowers from the October 2015 Paper Pumpkin Blissful Bouquet set in the archival basic black. I wanted three flowers and I decided to have them falling off the sponged colour. Probably mostly because the card from earlier in the week had the image entirely contained within the colour. I liked Martin’s comment which was that the card has a Japanese vibe – a good thing since he loves Japanese cards. The sentiment is also from the Paper Pumpkin set – rather a fun typeface and a stamp which will be rather useful. I tried using all three of the sponged colours as mats, I also tried them as card bases but in the end, it was basic black which really worked.

Stop back to see the third alternative card sometime in the next couple of days.

See you tomorrow,

October 2015 Paper Pumpkin Alternative

I’d like to start by thanking the team at CAS Colours and Sketches for selecting my card as a weekly winner. I truly am grateful to be honoured this way.

As I mentioned yesterday, my Paper Pumpkin kit arrived. It’s a really great project but for some reason when I looked at the stamp set, rather than putting the kit together I started playing with the images in the set. I guess I just didn’t feel like following instructions tonight.

Stampin' Up! October 2015 Alternative Paper Pumpkin

I put the two leaf stamps onto one clear block so that it removed the need to try to line them up similarly each time. I stamped them on very vanilla using the new(ish) Stampin’ Up! archival basic black ink and then got out my aquapainter. I coloured in the leaves using four colours – mossy meadow, pear pizzazz, old olive and always artichoke and purposely varying the amount of ink on the aquapainter. I added the sentiment – also from the Paper Pumpkin kit (Blissful Bouquet) – in Mossy Meadow. I love this colour and will be really sad to see it be retired next year. I matted the very vanilla piece with a skinny basic black mat before mounting it on a mossy meadow card base.

I’ve challenged myself to create at least three cards using this stamp set so let’s see how it goes. And I still need to create the cards as per the instructions. And I noticed that there are four pieces of each DSP in the kit although only three of each of the three card bases. So lots of extras to play with! These kits in a box really are tremendous fun – and value. I’d advise you to sign up – and keep your fingers crossed that this month’s kit is offered to subscribers. That’s a huge perk of being a subscriber. I’m going to keep my eye out for refill kits – these give you the supplies to make more of the month’s projects but don’t include the stamp set.

See you tomorrow,

Liz

Paper Pumpkin October 2015

I got home late last night, although not as late as I’d have been if Talbott hadn’t given me a ride home. The meeting that my brother was in ran really long. So after doing my small part of the dinner (my father having prepared most of it), I was ready to relax until I remembered that my Paper Pumpkin should have arrived. So I jumped up and presumably made my mail man happy by emptying the over stuffed mail box. Including this month’s special PINK box – Stampin’  Up! made a donation to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for each active subscriber this month and the box is pink for just this month. Here’s the video showing the contents of the kit. I can’t wait to play with it.

In case you’re new to Paper Pumpkin and aren’t entirely sure of the details, here’s a reminder:

  • Each month you receive a unique, surprise kit with a project. It’s colour-coordinated and everything is cut for you
  • Each kit includes stamps, ink, paper, and accessories – everything but adhesive.
  • Each kit gives you about a 30 minute creativity escape.
  • Your Paper Pumpkin ships around the 15th of the month.
  • You need to sign up for a kit by the 10th of the month to get that month’s kit. If you sign up on the 11th of the month, your first kit will come the next month.
  • A Paper Pumpkin membership is $19.95 per month (and shipping is included!) There’s no commitment, you can cancel your monthly Paper Pumpkin at anytime. You can also skip a month if you want.
  • Just click on the Paper Pumpkin button on the left to sign up.
  • The fun of it is that you never know what you’re going to get, but there’s always a stamp set. Once you’re an active subscriber you can also buy old kits and refills where available.

See you tomorrow,

Liz
