Paper Pumpkin February 2016 Alternate 5

Wow. We’re up to Paper Pumpkin February 2016 Alternate 5. And I have a couple more ideas too! This card sat on my desk for a few days whilst I thought how to complete it. In the end, I decided to allow the gold “squiggle” to be the star of the card and add extra gold to make it more lush and elegant. Let me know if you think I succeeded!

Stampin' Up! Paper Pumpkin Hello Sunshine

This is the official embellishment that is leftover after making the kit cards (I’m planning to make mine on Friday with friends) and it’s so beautiful. I stuck it onto a piece of very vanilla and then bordered it with a piece of gold foil 1/8 inch larger. Normally I leave my layers intact because depending on the colour, you can see that there are cut outs! Not with this card, I decided to cut out a fairly large rectangle out of the gold foil since it only comes a couple of sheets at a time. I cut the thanks out using the Hello You dies in blackberry bliss and used the 2-way glue pen to adhere it. I have finally decided on the 2-way glue pen as my favourite way to add die cut words – unless you squeeze, you don’t get extra glue that oozes around your word as with the multipurpose glue and it doesn’t dry too fast like the fine tip pen. I know that this is the third day in a row for blackberry bliss, but it feels a supremely rich and elegant colour to me and perfect for this card.

Since I’d cut out a lot of the gold foil, I didn’t want to have a dent in the front of my card so I popped the layer up on stampin’ dimensionals and added it to a blackberry bliss cardbase. Lots of dimensionals so that the card doesn’t sag. For this use, I tend to cut up the dimensionals at the edge of the pack – there’s no rule that all dimensionals have to be hexagons. Use it all up!

I used a retired paper to line the envelope – I’m not sure which DSP it is, it was in my stash of precut liners and I loved the gold foil with this card.

Paper Pumpkin February 2016 Alternate 4

Here’s another alternative use of this month’s Paper Pumpkin kit and, as mentioned yesterday, more of the older in colours. I’m hoping that I’m going to need a congratulations card soon for someone on my team at work – it’s always good to be prepared, right? This card has a similar feel to yesterday’s layout, but side by side, they are quite different. They would be good together as part of a set to give as a gift.

Paper Pumpkin February 2016 Hello Sunshine

All three of the stamps are from the Paper Pumpkin set, Hello Sunshine. I stamped the congratulations in full strength blackberry bliss on very vanilla. The To You! is also in blackberry bliss, but stamped off once. I find that with such skinny letters they look black rather than the deep lush purple. The other sentiment is of course in lost lagoon which I adore with blackberry bliss. The mat is just 1/8 inch larger than the stamped piece giving a very skinny border. This is then mounted on a blackberry bliss card base.

It’s hard to see in the picture, but I again dry embossed the envelope flap – this time with lucky stars which I think fits the congratulatory nature of the card.

And that’s it for today! A very simple card and post. I hope you’re enjoying seeing the possibilities afforded us with a Paper Pumpkin kit. I have another card made (just waiting for some embellishments which are arriving this week) and another one halfway there. I’m enjoying the challenge that I like to set myself with these kits and think that it might be fun to do a similar idea with other sets – take one stamp set and make four different cards with it. I think we’re all guilty (I hope we all are – I know I am) of excitedly getting a new set, making one card and moving onto another set.

See you tomorrow,

Liz

Paper Pumpkin February 2016 Alternate 3

Are you ready for my Paper Pumpkin February 2016 Alternate 3?  It doesn’t even have melon mambo on it, I think that’s five days in a row without pink now! Oddly, I wouldn’t say that I’m a pink fanatic, it just seems to work so well with balloons. Maybe that’s my next challenge – a balloon card without pink. I’ll have to think about that!

Stampin' Up! Paper Pumpkin February 2016 Hello Sunshine

I realised the other day that the 2014-2016 in colours are only going to be around for another three months unless they are saved by a colour refresh. And I really love mossy meadow, lost lagoon and blackberry bliss so there may be a bit more use of them for a while.

I started by stamping the sentiment from the Paper Pumpkin Hello Sunshine set in mossy meadow and then added the flowers in blackberry bliss but I stamped off once first. One tip is to look at the image when you’re stamping off to ensure it’s a good clean image otherwise you’re not going to get a good image when you stamp on your card. This feels almost Japanese – I assume it’s because the flowers are reminding me of cherry blossoms. I also added a flower to the inside – you can just see a hint of it. I matted this piece of very vanilla with a piece of mossy meadow just 1/8 inch bigger and then put that on the blackberry bliss card base. I didn’t have any mossy meadow or blackberry bliss envelope liners precut and with my ankle still quite a problem (as any of my Fitbit friends can see – I’m getting about 1000 steps per day at the moment) I didn’t want to trek to the other end of the house for the DSP box. Instead I used the embossing folder spring flowers (which I’ve just noticed is retired) and embossed the envelope flap.

I’m going to go and put my feet up for a while, call my sister and then play some more with my carding supplies. A nice peaceful day.

A hearty welcome to my new email subscriber – I’m so glad that you signed up.

See you tomorrow,

Paper Pumpkin February 2016 Alternate 2

I’ve been playing with the red box again and here’s my Paper Pumpkin February 2016 Alternate 2 idea. It’s similar to yesterday in that I took one of the large embellishments and used the leftovers but this time I cut a frame around the edge in the same paper.

I started by putting the frame on a piece of pear pizzazz so that I could get my placing and then started at the outside edge and worked my way inwards. It’s extremely satisfying to use scraps that are expected to be thrown away. Since I had my red Paper Pumpkin box out, I used a sentiment from the same Hello Sunshine kit and went with the reason for the kit’s name. Black seemed a little too harsh so this is early espresso. I used the same colour as a mat and then put this onto a base of pear pizzazz.

A quick post from me today. My sprained ankle (16 days old now) is improving a lot but I suspect that’s from a large amount of ice and elevation. So it’s time to get back to my couch and some elevation and then I think I’ll be ready to play with my carding supplies some more.

Paper Pumpkin February 2016 Alternate

I was looking at the Paper Pumpkin February 2016 kit, Hello Sunshine, last night and it hit me that there are four of all the main decorative pieces and only three cards for each. So I could play with leftovers. Of course they aren’t technically leftovers since I haven’t made the kit up yet – I’m saving it to do it with my friends next week. There’s a gold squiggle that you peel off the shiny gold foil and that leaves behind lots of pieces of foil and I thought it would be a crime to waste them. So I didn’t.

I carefully peeled a piece of gold foil (with it’s backing) leaving a hole where it had been in the cut foil. I lay this down on the card and, after peeling off the backing, stuck my piece of foil where it’s supposed to go. And continued that way. There were a few mishaps – the thin paper between the pieces was torn, so I had to approximate. Some had to have glue added but I’m thrilled with the overall effect and I love it on the cherry cobbler. I matted this with a piece of basic black and then decided it was a birthday card. This sentiment is also from the Hello Sunshine kit and I embossed it in gold. After doing this, I attached the matted piece and popped it up with dimensionals. I lined the envelope with a precut envelope liner but looking at the two together, I’m going to switch out this envelope and save it for later and line another with some DSP with gold on it.

And after doing this, I still have the gold squiggle from this, my leftover embellishment. I’ll finish my card with that soon and post it.

See you tomorrow,

Liz
