Moroccan Designer Series Paper

I was really pleased with yesterday’s card and, more to the point, surprised at how a print which I thought was too loud for me worked so brilliantly. So I decided to take the same kind of layout and use up another piece of my DSP mountain.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Moroccan Designer Series Paper - Bunch of Blossoms

I changed the card to a vertical card and shortened the DSP slightly – it’s just 3 1/4 inches deep today instead of yesterday’s 3 1/2 inches but it’s still 4 1/4 inches across the entire card.Today’s mat is emerald envy and I put this onto a very vanilla base. I then used one of my favourite sentiments which is from Bunch of Blossoms (so happy that’s carrying over) stamped in emerald envy onto more very vanilla cut out with the awesome Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies. It then occurred to me that not only do I have a DSP mountain, my ribbon stash is quite large too so I challenged myself to add some ribbon – the paper is too busy to add a bow, but a little touch of ribbon fit in rather well.

So here we have two cards with the same basic layout, both using designer series paper and they are quite different. Which do you prefer? More to the point, do you have any paper that you could use for this layout? If you make something based on this, I’d love to see it. Just email me at lizbaileycards@gmail.com.

Designer Tin of Cards

I have a card class on Saturday 18th March and I’m already prepping for it! I think that may be a record. The class is to make the Designer Tin of Cards project kit which consists of a tin, 16 cards and tabs to help organise them. I’m guessing you’re wondering just what there is to prep? Well it’s 4 copies of 4 cards and I decided I wanted to make a few alternatives (no surprise, I know!) in case people wanted some extra variety.

I was a bit surprised to notice that when the card is based on the Moroccan DSP, the shape to go on it is whisper white. So I’ll ensure that I have plenty of very vanilla on hand so that people can swap those out. I also decided that I didn’t want to cover up most of the patterned card and have created 2 cards out of the supplies of one with just a few extra basics.

The large patterned piece is from the kit and I added it to a delightful dijon card base. Next I laid down a strip of the kit’s washi tape folding the ends to crease it where I wanted to cut and then cutting it off. I know that washi is planned as a rough and ready tape, but I don’t like the ragged edges! I cut a little strip of Moroccan DSP to lay on top of some of the washi – in fact that little strip is where I got the delightful dijon from. To continue the colour scheme, I used delightful dijon for the sentiment from the Designer Tin of Cards stamp set (on very vanilla!) and added a layering piece of early espresso cut out using the layering squares framelits dies. I popped this up with dimensionals.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Please use the Stampin’ Rewards code to enter the raffle for a chance to win your very own Bookcase Builder stamp set for free; the current Stampin’ Rewards code is Y3JVQ4Q7 (if your order is over $150, don’t use the code, you get the rewards, but you still get an entry into the raffle). Moroccan Designer Series Paper

I wanted to showcase the stitched shapes framelits dies again and decided to add the Moroccan Designer Series Paper to the card.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Moroccan Designer Series Paper - Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies - Endless Birthday Wishes

I started by stamping the image from the Endless Birthday Wishes stamp set in versamark and then bringing it to life with the silver embossing powder and the heat gun. I used the largest but one oval stitched framelit and that created my focal point. I cut a piece of the Moroccan Designer Series Paper to add more emerald envy. I used the same colour for the sentiment also from Endless Birthday Wishes. I put this all together on a piece of whisper white and then onto an emerald envy card base. Easy but very effective.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Please use the hostess code to get free product; the current one is GWTDK7RM (if your order is over $150, don’t use the code, you get the rewards, but you still get the free gift from me). Moroccan DSP for CAS on Sunday

There’s a really fun sketch at CAS on Sunday at the moment and the challenge is open until the 19th. I encourage you to take a look and have a go.

Stampin' Up! Moroccan DSP and Suite Sayings

And here’s the sketch which inspired my card:

I happened to have some of the Moroccan DSP handy because I’d taken a file folder of DSP with me to the crop last weekend. I tried to pack light and only took one folder of DSP – since I put it with my card stock, it had to fit in a regular folder so only sheets that had been cut already would work. This sketch lends itself perfectly to showcasing a small piece of DSP, I cut that first and then trimmed it down because it was too wide. I decided that dapper denim was going to be the colour that I was featuring, so cut a piece of dapper denim cardstock so that it looked about right. Next I stamped the sentiment from Suite Sayings on a scrap of very vanilla and cut it out with an oval framelit. After that it was simply a matter of construction – I have pieces of very vanilla and whisper white precut at 4 by 5 1/4 inches. They are perfect for both the fronts and insides of cards and it’s handy not to have to jump up every time I need a piece. I use a carl cutter which can cut many sheets at a time and just store them with my card stock – along with precut half sheets that are my card bases. It saves time when prepping for card classes too.

After constructing the card, I cut another piece of the Moroccan DSP to fit on the envelope flap – 6 by 2 1/8 inches is perfect. I use the tombow glue and then trim off the excess paper. Quick and easy and I end up with a coordinating envelope.

See you tomorrow,

Moroccan DSP birthday

Today I’m sharing a third card made with the Moroccan DSP to put in my matching box which I’ve yet to show you. The box holds up to eight cards and because I’ve decorated it with the Moroccan DSP, I’m making the cards all with paper from this stack.

Stampin' Up! Moroccan DSP and Watercolor Wishes

This is another fairly busy paper which would be overwhelming if it were covering the entire card front – well, it would be to me. So I cut a strip 1.5 inches wide (actually it started wider at 2 1/8 inches but I cut it back as I was designing the card) and decided to pull out the cajun craze from the pattern. The cajun craze strip is 1/8 inch wider than the DSP to get a lovely tiny border. Once you’ve got the liquid tombow glue on the DSP, use your trimmer or your table to ensure that you’ve got the edges perfect. This is why I use the liquid glue, you have a little time to wiggle the paper to make sure that the edges are lined up. I then mounted this on a very vanilla card base.

To continue featuring the cajun craze, I used that ink for the sentiment which is from Watercolor Wishes. I know that you knew that because I use it all the time! But I love the typeface, the sentiment and the way the sentiment is stacked together. It’s just perfect. I cropped it with an oval die and then popped it up on dimensionals.

In case you were wondering why I started with a strip of DSP at 2 1/8 inches, it’s because I’m lazy – actually, let’s call it efficient! It means that there’s less cutting for the envelope flap. Just get a 6 by 2 1/8 inch strip, put some tombow on the flap and add the DSP. Use an edge to ensure that the edge of the envelope and the edge of the DSP match and then trim the excess with your paper snips. Now you have a perfectly coordinating card and envelope.
