Merry Moments DSP

Here’s another card that Julia and I will probably be making soon in bulk. It’s not quite a simple as the ones earlier in the week, but it’s close and could be made simpler.

Stampin' Up! Merry Moments DSP and Mistletoe and Holly

This paper is the Merry Moments Designer Series Paper, or DSP as even my brother calls it! I’ve put a slim mat of mossy meadow behind it before mounting that onto an old olive card base. The greeting comes from last month’s Paper Pumpkin (this month’s has already shipped – I’m excited!), Mistletoe and Holly which I stamped in mossy meadow. I even made the white banner long enough for the snowflake element the first time – I would expect that I’d only think about the snowflake afterwards! But something wasn’t quite right and I left the card overnight to simmer. In the morning, I realized that the wooden snowflake wasn’t quite right and so I coated it with versamark and then the heat and stick powder. After heating that, I sprinkled gold glitter over the snowflake. That was much better. I did things slightly out of order – I was apparently so happy with the snowflake that I used a glue dot to fix it to the white banner. Only then did I glue on the mossy meadow mat and then use stampin’ dimensionals to pop it up! It would have been much easier in a more sensible order, but it worked. I purposely had the banner off the edge of the DSP, it looked (surprisingly for me) a little bit too ordered if it lined up precisely.

Here are all the supplies I used for this card – just click to add them to my online store and craft away!

See you tomorrow,

Season of Cheer DSP for a fast card

My friend Julia told me the other day that she has only got one Christmas card (which she made at the crop). Worse than that, she’s busy on Thursday when I’m having a stamp a stack at my house. So I decided to create a few quick and easy cards that will be good for mass production. All we have to do is to figure out when we can make them. My first card was a bit too simple and then I decided to get out my rather large amount of DSP. Specifically the Season of Cheer DSP.

Stampin' Up! Season of Cheer and Mistletoe and Holly

This was exactly what I wanted – I cut the DSP at 5.25″ by 4″ so this means 6 cards from a piece of 12 by 12 and there are 2 of each pattern in the pack. That’s 11 that Julia could make of this design and it’s fast to do. In a production line it would be easy to stamp all the sentiments, cut them out with the ovals dies and cut out the larger night of navy ovals. Then it’s a very simple matter of gluing together the ovals, gluing the DSP to a night of navy card base and popping up the sentiment with dimensionals and placing it on the card.

I then took the scrap left and added a strip to dress up the envelope. Also quick and easy and makes everything coordinate. I find that I love that!

Stampin' Up! Season of Cheer DSP

So if you’re in the same position as Julia, grab some DSP and make some quick cards. I have a few more in the upcoming days to help with last minute “need some more cards” issues.

See you tomorrow,

Lighthearted leaves for Christmas

This week’s challenge at CAS Colors and Sketches is to take any of the colour challenges of the year and make it Christmassy.

Stampin' Up! Lighthearted Leaves and Mistletoe and Holly

I chose Challenge #118 which is to use all greens. Here’s the banner:

I stamped the image from Lighthearted Leaves in the archival basic black and coloured it in with a variety of markers – mossy meadow, pear pizzazz, old olive, wild wasabi and even a touch of always artichoke. I found, though, that the always artichoke was a bit close to mossy meadow and stopped using that one. I then got out the white chalk marker and added a few lines to give a softer effect. The sentiment comes from the latest Paper Pumpkin kit – Mistletoe and Holly and is stamped in mossy meadow. I put the whisper white piece straight onto a mossy meadow card base but now, looking at the card, I think that a skinny black mat may have improved the card.

There aren’t many supplies needed to make today’s card – for a change!
I think I will go and pick another colour combination and see what else I can make for this challenge.
See you tomorrow,

Your Presents

This week I’m entering for the CAS Colours and Sketches sketch challenge. I’ve been doing more sketch challenges lately and they do truly stretch me. This one has been interesting – I’ve been thinking about it for a few days at odd times, and that’s what it’s about, right? A challenge.

Stampin' Up! Your Presents

Here’s the banner for the challenge which inspired this card:

Tricky right? Until you remember that shapes can be changed. And that helps a lot. I’m still in a Christmas mood (more like a panic to get my cards done) and the half circles look like presents to me. I decided on a Christmassy red and green and then added the rather awesome new in color, Mint Macaron to the party. I really like the combo. Feel free to CASE it if you like it.

I started by stamping the sentiment in mint macaron on whisper white so that I could place the presents the way I wanted. I stamped the real red one and then the garden green. I’d earlier tried stamping the bows in mint macaron (and in real red) and it didn’t quite work, bumping into the real red present. So I stamped some more mint macaron bows and then cut them out with my paper snips. A dab of the multipurpose liquid glue and the bows were in place. I glued the whisper white piece to a mint macaron card base. I then lined the envelope with the liner cut out with the envelope liner framelits and the in color designer series paper stack. I think this is the first time I’ve used the stripes side of the paper – it’s been too tempting previously to use the flowers but they just didn’t work here.

See you tomorrow,

Paper Pumpkin November 2015 Alternate 2

Firstly I’d like to thank Lisa for selecting my card as A Cut Above at the Paper Players for last week’s challenge. My sister called me yesterday morning to tell me; since she’s in the UK she’s five hours ahead and could see this before me.

I bought the Expressions Natural Elements on a whim, not sure if they would fit my style of clean and simple cards – but they do. I was trying to create a Christmas card with blue and white and texture for the Merry Monday Challenge and somehow decided to make a Paper Pumpkin November 2015 Alternate idea. I played around for a while before realizing that the square joy stamp would make a great bauble. This is definitely an example of a card which evolved rather than being planned.

Stampin' Up! Expressions Natural Elements and Mistletoe and Holly

I stamped the joy in night of navy on whisper white and after cutting out the three baubles using a retired holiday ornaments framelits set (the circles collection could work although you’d need to add the topper from this year’s delicate ornaments dies) I realized that they weren’t going to work too well on a night of navy base. I really wanted the richness of the night of navy for the card base so I cut some whisper white circles with the bigshot and built my baubles. Then I played with ribbon and twine but nothing looked right. My box of “stuff” was in front of me and the expressions natural elements were right there. Finally a way to have the baubles be attached to something without it being too fussy. The natural look didn’t fit the card so I pressed the wooden piece into the versamark and then sprinkled the embossing powder over it. This is another time where it’s crucial to use Brian King’s tip about a metal tin lid when embossing that I referenced a couple of days ago – and I should have used my brother’s tip to put sandpaper underneath the very light and easily blown around wooden element! I glued the celebrate onto the card using the multipurpose glue. The envelope is finished off using the envelope liners framelits with the regals designer series paper stack.
