It’s My Party

CASology’s challenge this week is the cue word washi. Okay, I have loads of washi tape. I decided to challenge myself to use the Sale-a-bration glimmer tape in silver or gold which so far have been left untouched. I decided that the It’s My Party washi would be a good match for that.

Here’s the banner that inspired this card:

So I cut a piece to cover my whisper white layer and laid down the melon mambo washi. Then I added the silver glimmer tape below it. I confess I wondered if it was a bit TOO loud – what do you think? I figured that some people (I’m looking at you, Rebecca) would love the glitter and pressed forward. I planned to add the birthday cake from Endless Birthday Wishes since that was out for the sentiment, but it was too small. I’d just completed a card with Grateful Bunch so I tried that instead. Perfect. I stamped a number of flowers using that and melon mambo ink and punched them out. I glued the flowers on, popping up the largest with dimensionals and then added some clear Wink of Stella to the centres of the flowers.

I’m happy that the “celebrate” from Endless Birthday Wishes still works. It’s had a lot of use! Of course it’s another birthday card that isn’t going to work for a male. Oops.

See you tomorrow,

It’s My Party Designer Washi Tape

I had to laugh yesterday. My brother, Martin, is a computer geek through and through and yet, when I showed him my card he commented on the washi tape. As in – he recognised that I’d used washi tape and he knew what it’s called. He can mention DSP without blinking too. I guess living with a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator rubs off a bit. I’d love to see what kind of card he’d make, but it’s not his thing – he’s more likely to be in the basement playing with wood. But he can talk the talk! He hasn’t learned the names of the colours though. Not yet. 😉

So it’s Thursday which means it’s time for a new challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches. It’s a sketch week.

Stampin' Up! It's My Party Designer Washi Tape and Endless Birthday Wishes

and here’s the sketch banner which inspired my card

I don’t think I’d have made this card without the sketch and I’m very happy with it, so thank you Stef! It’s also the first time I’ve used two different washi tapes on a card so that’s cause for celebration too.

I put down the two strips from the It’s My Party Designer washi tape and then used a piece of watercolour paper to stamp the birthday cake from Endless Birthday Wishes. It seems to me that substituting a birthday cake for the flower makes a lot of sense. Which would you prefer?! I suppose my bathroom scale would prefer the flower, so it’s lucky that these are calorie free. I used my aquapainters to colour in a pale melon mambo cake with darker trim. It wasn’t dark enough so I used the melon mambo stampin’ up! write marker to emphasize the decoration on the cake. I cut it out with my paper snips and used fast fuse to stick it to the card. Since it’s nigh on impossible to cut around the candles and lights, I cut off the candles and stamped them on the card and then added the cake on top.

I then stamped the sentiment, also from Endless Birthday Wishes in melon mambo on the whisper white card and then glued this to a melon mambo base.

Any questions, feel free to email me at lizbaileycards@gmail.com. Take a look at the other inspiration from the design team and have a go yourself.

And a hearty welcome to my new email subscriber. I’m so glad you joined in the fun.

See you tomorrow,

It’s my party designer washi tape

Happy February! I can’t believe that we’re through January already – don’t worry, I’m not going to start counting down until Christmas. Yet. I’m ready to continue to work on my resolution to send/give more cards and a new resolution is to kick what the doctor today confirmed is bronchitis. Normally I’m happy being at home since I can card, but I don’t have the energy at the moment. Luckily I was at a crop at the weekend (before the exhaustion kicked in) and made a bunch of cards that I can share with you over the next week or so. My brother made me a washi tape holder and although I didn’t take it to the crop, I did take the It’s My Party designer washi tape since it’s new, I have a lot of washi and I almost never use it. So that was my challenge to myself. One card. With washi.

So what I found is that if you use some washi, you can make a card very quickly. The hardest part was getting the wispy pieces off the die cut and the big shot brush helps with that amazingly well. I took a piece of very vanilla card and lined it up on my grid paper so that the bottom of it was along one of the lines. Then I took the washi tape and lined that with one of the grid lines too so that I could be sure that it was straight. It looks slightly off in the photo but that’s because part of the card is on the envelope. In real life, it looks straight. One tip about the washi – there’s a special end to the washi when you get it – about half an inch from the end there’s a kind of stripe. Cut that off or the washi isn’t perfect when you put it on your card. I then used melon mambo (as you’ll see in the coming days, I was having a melon mambo weekend – don’t panic, there’s some rose red and watermelon wonder too as well as a couple of cards completely without any pink) to cut out the sentiment from the Hello You thinlits dies. I then perched this on the top of the washi tape and, having put that on a melon mambo cardbase decided that was all I needed. I flirted with the It’s My Party enamel dots but they didn’t add anything, they just looked as if I’d used them because I wanted to use them. In my opinion, they need to be needed.

Stampin' Up! Elegant Dots TIEF

For the envelope, I dry embossed the flap with the Elegant Dots TIEF. It definitely is elegant – I need to use it on a card soon.

I have some classes coming up, if you can get to North NJ check the left hand panel for the link to them. As always, if you have any questions, just contact me and I’ll get right back to you – and I’m fairly sure that email is safe and I’m not contagious that way.

Since it’s 1st February, that means that we’re one third of the way through Sale-a-bration. And only 2 weeks away from the three limited edition free items being retired – and replaced with three new ones. A quick reminder – for every $50 you spend before tax and shipping you get to choose a free item from the Sale-a-bration catalogue (the link to it is on the left). If your wish list is a bit larger than $50, then the best deal is to sign up as a demonstrator and get $155 worth of product for $99 (shipping included). There’s no penalty for joining up just for the totally customisable starter kit if that’s what you want to do. Or you can just stay for the discount. Or you can build a business. The great thing is that it’s totally up to you! If you want to sign up, the link for that is on the left hand side too.

Hello You thinlits dies

Firstly I’d like to thank the team at CAS Colours & Sketches for selecting my card as one of their weekly winners. I’m also delighted to announce that from next year, I’m joining the Design Team at CAS Colours & Sketches – it’s definitely an honour to be invited. I’m really happy that my sister has joined the team too. Her upline (and my surrogate upline) Eimear has also been invited. How awesome is that?

I’m switching gears a little today and have a birthday card to share. I put all of my Christmas cards together and there are far more than I expected so I took a break. And yes, I might possibly be playing with the new goodies from the upcoming catalogue!

Stampin' Up! Hello You thinlits and Endless Birthday wishes

This card all started with the It’s My Party designer washi tape (available from January 5), which I put towards the bottom of a piece of whisper white card. I originally tried two different designs of washi but after I looked at it and shook my head, I looked up to find my brother’s expression definitely very negative. So one piece of tape it is. I cut out the happy, from the Hello You Thinlits dies in melon mambo to match the tape and decided on old olive as a contrasting colour. The birthday comes from Endless Birthday Wishes. After stamping that, I glued on the happy with the fine tip glue pen – I really like this pen for the words although you have to move quite quickly because the glue sets rapidly. As you can see, there’s a slim mat of old olive and that’s on a melon mambo card stock base. A very CAS birthday card.

Here are the details of the products that I used to make this card. Just click on any of them to be taken to my online store.

See you tomorrow,
