Lighthearted Leaves for a challenge

I seem to be entering a lot of challenges this week and today it’s TGIF Challenges where it’s a colour challenge.

Stampin' Up! Lighthearted Leaves and Greetings Thinlits

Here’s the banner which inspired my card:

Definitely fall colours. I used a leaf stamp from Lighthearted Leaves which I seem to be using a lot at the moment – I’m working my way around the set! I stamped it in the three colours onto a very vanilla background. I wasn’t sure which colour to use for the sentiment and so cut out a thanks with the Greetings Thinlits dies in all three colours and tried them all! In the end, I decided to go 3-D and layers the old olive on top of the rich razzleberry – I’m really happy that I have the fine tip glue pen to help me with adhering the thinlits. I then mimicked the shadowing effect of the rich razzleberry by having a very thin mat of rich razzleberry behind the very vanilla and putting this onto an old olive card base.

I had visitors over the weekend and they looked at all my stuff, especially the ribbon and they commented that surely I have more ribbon. I don’t. Because I hardly ever use it, I much prefer the clean and simple style card. But maybe I should use some ribbon soon. I’ll take it as a challenge.

Last, but definitely not least, a welcome to my new blog follower. I’m glad to have you join the fun!

See you tomorrow,

Garden in Bloom challenge card

I made this card for a challenge at TGIF Challenges last month but missed the deadline. For some reason it took me a bit of effort to combine pool party, crushed curry and calypso coral, but here’s what my entry would have been.

Stampin' Up! Garden in Bloom and Greetings Thinlits dies

This is the first card that I’ve made with the set Garden in Bloom but not quite the first using the greetings framelits dies – I seem to have overused the thanks rather. Not that it’s a bad thing to want to thank people, but perhaps I should let the die cool off a bit! The Garden in Bloom contains two step stamps; here I stamped the outline in calypso coral and, although it looks as if I did something clever with the crushed curry, the second stamp is designed not to give total coverage but more of a watercolour look.

The thanks is of course cut out in pool party and I used the same colour to create a skinny mat around the piece of very vanilla. This was then mounted on a very vanilla card base. The envelope is lined using the now retired backgrounds DSP in the subtles collection but of course the Designer Series Paper stacks in subtles would be an excellent replacement – I have those too but I had an already cut out liner in pool party.

See you tomorrow,

Sprinkles of Life

This is the set that gives to the Ronald McDonald charity for every set purchased, which is a good reason to buy it. It’s a set with loads of images so there is lots of scope for masses of cards too.

Stampin' Up! Sprinkles of Life and Greetings thinlits dies

This is another card that I made at the crop in July. I embossed the basket in early espresso on whisper white and then stamped the flowers in wild wasabi. Using a blender pen I used rose red, wild wasabi and so saffron to colour in the image making sure to get various strengths of colour. For example the yellow flowers are coloured completely in so saffron with a fairly intense colour for the centres and a lighter touch for the petals. I cut out the image using the circles framelits and then cut out the next largest circle in rose red.

I love the new designer series paper stacks and wanted to use one of them as a background – this is the one in so saffron. I matted it with whisper white since it didn’t look quite right directly on the base of rose red. To finish the card off I cut the thanks with the Greeting Thinlits dies in wild wasabi – I seem to use these dies rather frequently. I really love having words that I can die cut and add to a card. Oddly when I used to buy cards before I started making them, I used to look for the cards that had no sentiments. Now, I really like to add one. Go figure!

I’ve been a bit busy over the past day or so – my father arrived from the UK last night which is wonderful. I even tidied up the my craft area aka the kitchen table!

See you tomorrow,

English Garden DSP

Here’s a card I made back in July at the crop weekend. Moving your craft stuff around definitely brings different things to your attention and I’d ended up with the English Garden DSP right in front of me. I also had my new (at the time) triple banner punch on the table so I decided to combine the two.

Stampin' Up! Greetings Thinlits and English Garden DSP

The paper has quite a lot going on so I didn’t want to add much more, but rather to let the paper shine. I matted the paper in mossy meadow and then glued that to a blushing bride card base – obviously pulling the colours from the DSP.  Then I cut out my sentiment using the Greetings Thinlits dies also in mossy meadow. Making the banner was easy, I just inserted a strip of blushing bride card into the smallest slot of the banner punch. In retrospect, I think that I should’ve made a mossy meadow banner just a tiny bit bigger to mat the banner, but two months ago, I didn’t think of that!

I used more of the DSP to line the outside flap of the envelope. I do not like the envelope to be plain.

My July Paper Pumpkin DSP

Yesterday I shared my version of the July Paper Pumpkin – thanks a latte kit. Here is a card that I made for a challenge (but due to computer issues I missed the deadline) that used the DSP from the kit. The challenge was to use basic grey, pool party and daffodil delight. As I mentioned yesterday, I liked the DSP and so I wanted to feature it on a card.

Stampin' Up! Thanks a latte and Greetings Thinlits

I started with the piece of DSP and cut a piece of daffodil delight cardstock just an 1/8 inch larger in each dimension. This was then adhered to a regular sized card base of pool party. I used the greetings thinlits dies to cut out that thanks in all three colours so that I could really see what was going to work best and that somehow resulted in the decision to use two of the different colours on the card. I glued the pool party thanks to the daffodil delight one but offset it slightly so that it is visible even when looking at it straight on. I then cut a banner out of basic grey about the right size to hold the thanks and used the new triple banner punch to cut the end. It was then very simple to create a pool party banner to border this. I decided to really push my boundaries and have the banner hanging over the edge of the DSP; this is popped up on stampin’ dimensionals to really make it stand out on the card.

Don’t forget to spread the word – Stampin’ Up! is going to donate to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation; $1 for each active Paper Pumpkin subscriber and $2 for each new subscriber as at October 10th. Did you sign up yet?

See you tomorrow,
