Grateful Bunch

One thing I’m grateful for today is the sketch that Jane gave us over at CAS Colours & Sketches this week. Yesterday I shared a card inspired by the sketch and one of the entries into the challenge, here’s another. I’m sticking with yesterday’s floral motif, but today I’m using Grateful Bunch.

Stampin' Up! Grateful Bunch and Spring Flowers TIEF and Rose Wonder

The embossed square was first cut out and then embossed with another retired folder, Spring Flowers. I love this one – it creates such a happy look, I often use it on envelope flaps for birthdays. I stamped the flowers in blushing bride on the same colour card stock and punched them out with the blossom bunch punch. The stamp and punch are awesome in that they do three flowers at a time in three different sizes. In the event, the smallest flower was too small to have a dot, so I stamped and punched another medium sized flower which was just right (are you thinking of Goldilocks too?). Whilst I had the ink out, I stamped the sentiment, from Rose Wonder and also the #Imbringingbirthdaysback onto the envelope.

Then it was construction time – I used fast fuse to securely fix the embossed piece to the card and then added very vanilla enamel dots to the centres of the flowers. These were from the Holiday catalogue and I hadn’t used any of the cream dots before. Actually I think I’d only used one dot at all before this card! I attached two of the flowers with glue dots and then popped up the lower one on dimensionals.

I completed the envelope with a liner cut out with the envelope liner framelits and using the subtles family backgrounds DSP. I have the new DSP but apparently I haven’t lined many envelopes with blushing bride.

Happy Pi Day.

See you tomorrow,

Grateful Bunch without the punch

As you know, I was at a crop last weekend. Crops are great fun, it’s a dedicated time for paper crafting so other tasks don’t intrude, you get to hang out with like minded people and you get a lot done. One of the hard parts is the packing. There is, shall we say, a fair amount of stuff that you acquire and it’s hard to ensure that you don’t forget something you might need. It’s not just trying to decide which stamp sets will strike your fancy but you need the tools that go with them. Which I forgot this time! I was in the middle of making this card with the Grateful Bunch stamp set when I looked for my matching blossom bunch punch and I finally realised that I’d left it at home on the kitchen table. And of course nobody had thought to bring theirs. So I actually fussy cut these flowers and I will be so extra grateful the next time that I use this punch!

I used garden green to stamp the stem onto whisper white and then rose red for the sentiment which comes from the Rose Wonder set. Then I stamped some flowers in rose red and wisteria wonder and as you can see, I decided to have just one colour of flowers. In a display of laziness, once I’d decided that I was only using rose red, I turned over a fussy cut wisteria wonder flower and stamped another rose red on the back! I’m so happy that this set is in photopolymer because that would have been hard otherwise – and I’ve had had to cut out another flower. I attached the flowers with glue dots and then decided that they needed a little sparkle and put some clear wink of Stella on them. The envelope is lined with the retired backgrounds DSP from the regals collection cut with the envelope liners thinlits.

See you tomorrow,

Grateful Bunch for PPA

I’ve been trying to get back into the habit of entering challenges – over the holidays most challenge sites took a break and so I got out of the routine. But they are not only fun but sometimes push you to create better cards than usual. I’ve definitely found that it’s extremely helpful to be on a Design Team because you HAVE to make a card. There’s no deciding that the sketch or colours aren’t quite your thing. I’ve been really pleased with the two cards I’ve produced for the CAS Colours & Sketches challenges so far this year. You have been there to check out the challenges haven’t you? Today’s card is for the Pals Paper Arts challenge, a fun colour combo selected by Brian King.

Stampin' Up! Grateful Bunch and It's My Party DSP stack

The banner which inspired this challenge is

PPA-283-Jan14

and Brian pulled it from the It’s My Party DSP stack so it made sense to flip through that stack to see if anything would work with my planned flower from Grateful Bunch. I embossed the partial stem in black on watercolour paper and, using my aquapainter, coloured the leaves in mint macaron. On a piece of scrap watercolour paper, I embossed the flower which I gave a pale melon mambo wash, again with the aquapainter and then punched it out with the blossom bunch punch. I have to say that punching out watercolour paper needs serious hand strength – or just put the punch on the table and press down with your hand and arm and whole body weight. Much easier! By the way, you can get the stamp set and punch as a bundle and save 15% which is definitely the way to go.

I really liked this mint macaron print from the It’s My Party DSP stack and decided on a nice wide border around the watercolour paper before gluing that to the melon mambo card base. Definitely a fun card. I’m going to give it to Komal at work. I gave a birthday card to her buddy last week and Komal instant messaged me to let me know that her birthday is in May. I don’t think that she needs to wait until May, a Happy Friday card seems like a good idea, yes? Komal is one of the happiest people that I know, she’s very positive and always smiling. This happy card seems to really fit. I hope that she likes it.

I finished it off by lining the envelope with the same DSP so that it coordinates. I really love this DSP stack, it’s 48 sheets of happy 12 ” by 12″ designs. It’s not cheap (and in fact I split it with my sister) but it’s a lot of fun paper.

See you tomorrow,

Liz
