Going Places DSP stack

I meant to make some masculine birthday cards at the weekend, but as you’ll have presumably noticed over the last few days, they seem more feminine. I did have some success though and here’s one of them. I love the Going Places DSP stack.

I selected a piece of DSP from the stack and then pulled the rest of the colours from that – mossy meadow and hello honey. The paper is beautiful but with a black background it’s rather dark so I wanted a big banner. This one is 2 inches tall which made it perfect for using with the triple banner punch. I cut out the happy from Hello Honey using the Hello You dies and once I’d figured out the placement, stamped the birthday from Endless Birthday Wishes in the archival basic black. After I’d stamped it, I glued the happy onto the banner using the 2 way glue pen. I love that it doesn’t ever ooze glue when I press it down. I matted the DSP with a piece of mossy meadow and glued that to a hello honey card base.

The banner is popped up on dimensionals and the tail of it extends slightly over onto the hello honey. It really is a super sized banner! For the envelope, I embossed the flap with the Lucky Stars TIEF.

I’m taking this card to work to add to my stash there. On Friday I had lunch with one of our fairly new hires and during the course of the conversation about weekend plans, he said that Friday was his birthday. I was so happy that I had an appropriate card to give him. That’s happened to me twice so far this year so I feel that I need to get a few more just in case cards ready.

See you tomorrow,

Sky is the Limit for 11 more days!

Here’s a birthday card which I’m really happy with – especially as it targets that hard to make type of card – the masculine one.

Stampin' Up! Sky is the Limit and Endless Birthday Wishes and Going Places DSP and Hello You thinlits dies

I stamped the biplane from the Sky is the limit set on crumb cake in archival black and, presumably because I was at a crop and had loads of time, fussy cut it out. Actually this was the second biplane – the DSP says it’s sahara sand but crumb cake was a warmer tone and looked better with the DSP. So I need to find another use for a snipped out biplane soon. I liked the Going Places DSP very much and this one gives an impression of mountains which fits rather well with the plane. I matted this in black and mounted it on a crumb cake card base. Then I used the Hello You thinlits to cut out a happy sentiment in basic black. Before sticking this down, I stamped the birthday greeting from Endless Birthday Wishes in crumb cake. Just in case there was an issue. But happily it worked out okay, stamped on one of the mountains and then I could position the happy. I used the 2 way glue pen to stick this down – it seems the easiest method. It doesn’t ooze and the angled tip makes it easy to apply to small places. After putting the matted piece onto the crumb cake base, I attached the plane, popped up on stampin’ dimensionals. I’d say that this card was a success judging by the reaction from the nearby ladies. I used the leftover piece from the 6″ by 6″ DSP to line the outside flap of the matching envelope.

And why only for 11 more days? This is a set that you can get for free as part of the Sale-a-bration promotion but this particular set is only available through February 16th. So if you need this one, you need to spend $50 on product and then select this as your free item. If you don’t have the Hello You dies or the Going Places DSP, might I suggest you add them to your basket right away as a start?

See you tomorrow,

Welcome Words for Jorge

My peer at work has a new person starting on Monday so the Welcome Words stamp set which I got earlier this month arrived just at the right time! I’ve been doing pretty well so far this month in my quest to give out more cards and it’s amazing how happy it makes people. It’s easy to get blasé about cards – it’s “just” a card that I made, but two people this month have said that I made their day. My initial thought was that that’s a bit sad, but it isn’t. Giving someone a card says that you care about them and that can make their day. And not only do we care enough to give a card, but we spent time making it as well. It’s powerful. I encourage you to join me and send more cards. Leave me a comment and let me know how much you enjoyed giving an unexpected card. Perhaps I should get to today’s card!

Stampin' Up! Welcome Words and Going Places DSP

I am enamoured of this paper I think that it is unbelievably beautiful. It’s from the Going Places DSP stack which means that for $8 you get 48 pieces of 6″ by 6″ gorgeous paper. That’s a pretty amazing deal. I’m really happy that Stampin’ Up! are doing more DSP patterns with very vanilla, last year it was almost all whisper white which I use less often. For this card, all I did was cut a large background mat to put on my mossy meadow card stock with my favourite multipurpose glue. Then I stamped the sentiment in mossy meadow on very vanilla paper. I left the card that way overnight because I didn’t like the mossy meadow border – it seemed too square somehow. Today I realised that I just needed it to be more skinny. Like a lot of us! The sentiment is popped up with dimensionals and that’s it. Quick, easy, clean and simple. My kind of card. And hopefully, Jorge’s too.

Going Places DSP

There’s a gorgeous new paper stack called Going Places in the upcoming catalogue and I included it in my preorder. It’s full of patterns that remind me of the marbled end papers in old books. I wanted to really feature one of them on a card.

Beautiful right? I decided that I wanted to line the outside flap of the envelope with the paper also which needs 2.25″ so I cut that piece off leaving me with 3.75″ and I designed the card around that! It means that I have a leftover inch strip and I’m contemplating using that as a banner somewhere else so that nothing is wasted! I matted the DSP with a skinny mossy meadow mat and mounted that on the hello honey card base pulling both colours from the DSP. The happy comes from the Hello You Thinlits dies and lost lagoon seemed to work best – I didn’t want to introduce yet another colour. The fine-tip glue pen did a good job of gluing this down easily.

For the envelope, I attached the 6 by 2.25 inch strip with multipurpose glue and then simply trimmed the edges with my paper snips.

I realise that the recent concentration on birthdays would imply that I’m completely ready for Christmas. I’m not. Not even close. In fact, I’m off work today to finish up the preparations. I’ve been making Christmas cards, on and off, since August so I have quite a stash.

Here’s what I used for today’s card – bear in mind that you can’t order the Going Places DSP stack until January 5th, unless you sign up as a demonstrator. And there’s no reason not to do so. You get to order new product early, you get a discount (up to 25%) and there’s no penalty if you decide it’s not for you. You can just stop any time. It’s that easy. Just click on the join my team tab and follow the instructions there.

See you tomorrow when hopefully I’ll be able to report that I have this Christmas thing completely under control!
