Summer Silhouettes for a birthday

Here’s a birthday card that I recently sent to my friend Lorie – and I know that she’s received it so I can share it.

Stampin' Up! Summer Silhouettes and Endless Birthday Wishes

I stamped the leaves from the Summer Silhouettes set in wild wasabi on very vanilla and then added the blossoms from the same set in perfect plum. I got the colour combination from the Colour Coach, a really handy tool that is being discontinued – it’s currently still available and at $7.48 is a steal, but it’s only whilst supplies last. I hadn’t actually decided what the card was going to be at this point because I was just playing with the stamp set. So I went looking through my sentiment sets for something that would fit both the available space and the card itself. It seems that the cards often dictate what occasion they are for!

The sentiments in Endless Birthday Wishes are really useful when you need a specific shape or size since the set allows you to make your own combinations. I stamped the sentiment in perfect plum. The very vanilla piece is mounted on a perfect plum card base and of course the envelope is lined in the same shade.

See you tomorrow,

Water coloured birthday card

I know that Rebecca has received her card so I can post it on my blog now. As with yesterday’s card, it’s more water colouring but only for the background this time.

Stampin' Up! Endless Birthday Wishes

I used my aqua painter and the soft sky ink pad to add a wash of colour to the water colour paper, getting fainter as I went down the paper. After it dried, I used lost lagoon to stamp the image from the Endless Birthday Wishes set – holding it down firmly since the water colour paper is rather bumpy and thus is harder to stamp on. I mounted the water colour paper onto a skinny mat of lost lagoon with sticky strip.

The sentiment is also from Endless Birthday Wishes and to get the placement right I stuck down the image first onto a card base of soft sky. Just be careful not to use a block that’s too large and covers the glued on image – it will mess up your sentiment stamping. Yes. I’ve done that! I used lost lagoon again for the stamping.

The envelope is lined with the soft sky backgrounds DSP – I’ve seen the new colour collections replacing these and I really like them. I’ll actually be able to use both sides of the paper instead of only using two of the four patterns as I’ve always done with the backgrounds DSP. And I can order the new DSP on Tuesday!

Moon Lake Blue Tit

As I mentioned a few days ago, one of the perks of being a demonstrator is that you get a sneak peek of the new catalogue a month before it goes live. One of the drawbacks perhaps is seeing what isn’t being carried over from the Occasions catalogue. Moon Lake is one such set; so another one to get more use out of this month before it’s gone. I’m a bit sad that it’s not in the new catalogue because this set seems to made for masculine birthday cards. Julia seems to agree since she wanted this card for her brother in law.

Stampin' Up! Moon Lake

I thought that this was a blue tit and pulled up an image from google and it does seem to be one. At least, I decided to try to colour it that way. I stamped the image on watercolour paper in the jet black stazon and then used marina mist, so saffron, wild wasabi and crumb cake for the water colouring. I mounted the watercolour paper on a piece of basic black using sticky strip. I decided where I wanted this to be mounted on the crumb cake base so that I could determine the position of the sentiment which I wanted to stamp first. The sentiment is from Endless Birthday wishes and is stamped in memento black ink (it’s easier to clean!) . After that, I glued the image onto the card.

See you tomorrow,

Endless Birthday Wishes

Last week I shared a card that I made for a Spring challenge. I really enjoyed playing with a window in the front of the card, so I did it again. This time I’m using the Endless Birthday Wishes stamp set, so called because there are masses of mostly single words which can be put together to form many many sentiments.

I used the circle framelits to cut out a window in the very vanilla and then cut two small frames out of pear pizzazz using same size framelit – once with the next larger and once with the next smaller. I then stamped the image in pear pizzazz through the window in the card although it would have been better to have stamped it after I’d attached the frame (but that wasn’t planned initially).

I put little dots of the multipurpose glue around the larger frame and glued that to the outside of the card. Then I did the same with the smaller frame and, with the card closed, glued the smaller frame to the inside of the card through the window. Here’s a view of the card open.

After that I stamped the greeting in pear pizzazz. As on the previous card, the frame on the inside not only adds to the design, but gives a very clear indication of where you shouldn’t write! And here’s the inside:

The envelope is lined using the envelope liner framelits and the Backgrounds DSP in pear pizzazz.

Love is Kindness with Endless Wishes

I have previously created a very simple, monochromatic card with the Stampin’ Up! Love is Kindness stamp set and now I wanted to step it up a bit. This uses supplies from the current annual catalogue, the new occasions 2015 and the Sale-a-bration one.

Stampin' Up! Love is Kindness

I stamped the image in the memento tuxedo ink so that I could colour using the blendabilities. I used two tones of the wild wasabi to colour the stalks and leaves and then used all three of the rich razzleberry and pink pirouette for the tulips. I also used the colour lifter to add additional dimension. The sentiment is from the Endless Birthday Wishes set and is stamped in wild wasabi. I glued the whisper white card to a piece of rich razzleberry just 1/8 inch larger in both dimensions to create a tiny border.

Do you recognise the DSP? It’s the new(ish) irresistably yours specialty DSP in the Sale-a-bration catalog, yours free with an order of $50 until March 31st. Can you believe that we’re two thirds of the way through the Sale-a-bration promotion?! With four new SAB items being launched on March 1st, I’m already planning my next order.

I took the white and embossed piece of DSP and sponged pink pirouette ink onto it, rubbing the excess off with a paper towel to create the background. The ribbon is the rich razzleberry 1/4 inch cotton ribbon which comes in about a dozen colours. It’s very easy going. I taped the ribbon to the back of the DSP beforeĀ  attaching the image to it with stampin’ dimensionals. Not only did it give the card some added dimension (hence the name!), it meant that the ribbon didn’t cause the whisper white piece to be lumpy. I then mounted this all on a rich razzleberry base.

The envelope flap is lined with the Backgrounds DSP and I also stamped the same sentiment on the front of the envelope seeing as it was still inky.
