Sleigh Ride Edgelits

I’m finally sharing the card that I made for my brother’s birthday – which was back on August 12th. That was the night of the sushi knife and foot incident hence the delay in posting this card. I CASEd the idea for this one from the catalogue. There are three scenes in the sleigh ride edgelits set, a santa and sleigh pulled by a horse (hence the name), buildings and the trees. I started off working on my card using the buildings but for some reason changed my mind and pulled out greens and the trees. I cut out the trees in pear pizzazz and then did the same again in old olive. By flipping the old olive over I could have the trees on the other side of the card. Then I cut them out again in mossy meadow. This is when I realised that the card looked a bit off with the mossy meadow trees directly above the pear pizzazz ones. So  I cut them out again but didn’t have the framelit at the edge of the card. After I removed the excess from die cutting the trees, I hand cut the slope to the right of the trees so that they were no longer directly above the pear pizzazz trees. Much better!

I was quite pleased that I remembered to stamp the greeting – from Endless Birthday Wishes – before I assembled the card. The mossy meadow layer is glued to the very vanilla piece. The old olive is popped up on stampin’ dimensionals. The pear pizzazz is popped up as well – with the trees that are overlapping the mossy meadow piece popped up with double dimensionals. Here’s a peek at the side view:

This was a fun card to make. I’ve already made a card using the sleigh – one of my friends has already declared that one the design for her Christmas cards!

Mixed bunch birthday wishes

This is a first – I’ve created a card that complies with the rules of two challenges! The Paper Players and CAS on Sunday. Both challenges are tic tac toe and I’ve used birthday, embossing and flower for the Paper Players and Birthday, Black and white plus one colour and embossing for CAS on Sunday.

Here are the grid from each:

The Paper Players

I heat embossed the flower image in using black embossing powder onto whisper white card stock – don’t forget your embossing buddy. I then used my aquapainter and minimal water to colour in the flower using rich razzleberry. I started colouring each petal in the centre so that the colour faded a little towards the edge. The sentiment is from the Endless Birthday Wishes set – new if you’re not in the US but a photopolymer set from a few months ago if you are – and is also stamped in rich razzleberry. The whisper white is then mounted onto a cardbase of rich razzleberry.  I’m continuing to use up my Backgrounds DSP stash lining the back of the envelope flaps. The fact that I still have some of the Backgrounds DSP left (in every colour family) of course hasn’t stopped me from ordering the new patterns today!

Lately I’ve been publishing posts later in the day that I used to; I’m happy to have this one scheduled at the “usual” time, because I’m starting at a new job today. It’s been a great six months between jobs – especially the language learning in Barcelona – but now it’s time to get back to work.

See you tomorrow,

Monday fun at Simple Stampin’

I was reading Susan Itell’s Simple Stampin’ blog this morning and she likes to issue a personal challenge on Mondays. Today’s was to use four colours from the same colour family. I started off using the subtles but moved onto an autumnal idea and the regals. This is also a sneak peek of the new catalogue (going live tomorrow!) since the stamp set, Sprinkles of Life is the new charity set  – for each one purchased, Stampin’ Up! donates $3 to Ronald McDonald.

Stampin' Up! Sprinkles of life

I started by stamping the tree in always artichoke on very vanilla card stock. I then decided to use the baby wipe technique for the leaves. You take a baby wipe and put drops of different re-inkers onto it. I used cherry cobbler, crushed curry and cajun craze and then pressed the leaves stamp firmly onto the baby wipe to get inked up.  As you can see, you get a great variegated image. I liked it so much that I decided to do the same thing for part of the sentiment. The sentiments are both from the Endless Birthday Wishes set – a familiar set if you’re in the US, new tomorrow if you’re not.

I mounted my very vanilla piece onto a piece of cajun craze just 1/8 inch larger than the vanilla. This then was mounted onto a crushed curry card base. I didn’t think about my envelope until I’d cleaned the stamps so I decided that some dry embossing was the way to go. I used the retired folder Pretty Print to coordinate with the script of the sentiment.

Yesterday was my one year anniversary of starting to make cards and also of becoming a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator. What a year of fun it’s been. I’ve made 587 cards (not all different) and had a great time, met a lot of fun new people and sent way more cards than in the previous year! Why not join in the fun? You won’t regret it. Just fill in the Contact Me form and we can chat.

See you tomorrow,

Endless Birthday Wishes

My order containing new supplies arrived today as I was returning from my run (a reward for exercising I think!) and so I’ve been playing this afternoon. The kitchen table is even more of a wreck. Maybe I’ll tidy it tomorrow.

I really like the new colour, watermelon wonder. It is soothing some of the sting of strawberry slush retiring. I decided to watercolour the little cake from Endless Birthday Wishes using only watermelon wonder but adding different amounts of water to get three different tones.

I gave my piece of watercolour paper a skinny (1/16 inch) basic black mat. I intended to use the new Boho chic embossing folder (and it does look good having used it on a piece of watermelon wonder) but it didn’t go with the image. So I pulled out the lucky stars folder to echo the candles on the cake. I mounted this onto a card base of watermelon wonder.

Then I pulled out the envelope punchboard  – the card is a regular size, but I had received some envelope paper in the new colours and I wanted to try it out. It’s thinner than cardstock and folds nicely into an envelope, plus one side has pattern so you get the look of a ready lined envelope. All I have to do now is decide which colour to try next…

See you tomorrow,

Fab Friday Five Retiring Colours

The Fab Friday challenge this week is to use some or all of the five retiring colours. This is indeed a challenge because although strawberry slush is one of my favourite colours, the others leave me a little cold – especially pistachio pudding and crisp cantaloupe. I decided that to make this a true challenge for myself, I should use at least three colours.

Here’s the challenge banner:

I cut out ovals from the very vanilla card using the smallest oval framelits (and serious ruler and pencil work). I felt like doing some watercolouring and so did a light wash of the three colours that I chose – coastal cabana, baked brown sugar and strawberry slush getting lighter towards the bottom onto a piece of watercolour paper. Once it dried, I glued the watercolour paper to the back of the very vanilla piece. I then stamped the birthday cake from Endless Birthday Wishes in each ink. This was when I realised my error. The watercolour paper wasn’t glued straight and there was a definite line where the thicker watercolour paper finished. It was my Stampin’ Trimmer to the rescue – I trimmed the card down so that the watercolour paper went all the way to the edges. I then made a card base from very vanilla just a quarter inch larger. The watercoloured piece was popped up on a lot of dimensionals so that it is secure as well as not droopy.

This meant making an odd sized envelope for my 5″ by 3.25″ card which fortunately needs a 7.5″ square piece of card stock. Since I had the stamp inky, I added the birthday cake image to the front of the envelope.
