Succulent Garden DSP

Have you got the Brushstrokes stamp yet? After I saw Sara’s live demonstration on Facebook, I ordered the stamp and played with it last week adding the stripes to a piece of Inside the Lines DSP which was made for colouring. Next I decided to try the same on a piece of colored DSP, so I chose the Succulent Garden DSP.

The Succulent Garden DSP includes sweet sugarplum in its palette, but not on this piece so I decided to rectify the error! Here I cut my piece of DSP down to size and stamped the Brushstrokes stamp in versamark and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. Next I used a sponge dauber to add a fairly light covering of sweet sugarplum to the parts of the DSP not embossed. I was planning to just use one of the almost triangles on my card leaving a fair amount of white space but after I’d stamped my greeting from the Endless Birthday Wishes in old olive, I decided to change the layout. Here it appears as if the celebrates were on a strip across the card whereas they are actually stamped on the cardbase itself with the pieces of DSP added on top.

Moroccan Designer Series Paper

I wanted to showcase the stitched shapes framelits dies again and decided to add the Moroccan Designer Series Paper to the card.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Moroccan Designer Series Paper - Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies - Endless Birthday Wishes

I started by stamping the image from the Endless Birthday Wishes stamp set in versamark and then bringing it to life with the silver embossing powder and the heat gun. I used the largest but one oval stitched framelit and that created my focal point. I cut a piece of the Moroccan Designer Series Paper to add more emerald envy. I used the same colour for the sentiment also from Endless Birthday Wishes. I put this all together on a piece of whisper white and then onto an emerald envy card base. Easy but very effective.

Festive Birthday DSP

When I made my card for CAS Colours & Sketches last week and decided that I was going to use a piece of Festive Birthday DSP to cut out a word, I of course, cut out numerous words. This card is using one of the spares.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Festive Birthday DSP - Endless Birthday Wishes - Star of Light

The word is from the Mini Treat bag thinlits dies and after starting with that, I decided to add the birthday cake in melon mambo from the Endless Birthday Wishes set. I was planning another very CAS card with loads of white space but it just didn’t “fit” so I cut down the panel and picked emerald green as a feature colour and made a little mat. I was still going to stay very CAS with a nice wide white border but after adding the enamel star in emerald envy for the dot over the J, I went star crazy and looked through my stamp sets for an appropriate one. I found a cluster of three stars in Stars of Light appropriately enough and made a border with it and more melon mambo. I think it makes a very celebratory card.

Floral Boutique DSP

I was having some fun carding this weekend, but I kept making Christmas cards so I moved all my Christmas sets to one side and decided I was making a non Christmas card. They tried to creep back in as I looked at the sketch at the Pals Paper Arts this week, but I resisted and kept my eyes firmly on the Floral Boutique DSP which is beautiful, but for some of the patterns, I can’t envision a really large piece on a card. It would take over. So it was perfect for this challenge.

Here’s the banner which inspired my card:

The reason that this post came out so early is that I’m off to New York for a 2 day conference and I figured it would be best to be certain that I’ve entered it in the challenge rather than struggling from a hotel room. So I cut a strip of the Floral Boutique DSP and added it to my whisper white layer. I knew I wanted a bright pop of colour and tried to use anything but melon mambo but in vain! I love it with the night of navy. So I cut a piece of whisper white slightly under an inch so that it would fit easily into the triple banner punch and created my flag. I popped it up with dimensionals but decided something was missing. That something apparently was some enamel shapes in melon mambo which, I think, finished it off perfectly.

Don’t forget that this is the midway point of the World Card Making celebration at Stampin’ Up! It ends on Wednesday. What with that and the buy 3 get 1 free DSP offer, this is a good time to put in an order. I’m off to put one in myself right now!

softly falling

Softly Falling for CAS C&S

I’m a little late today due to a power cut at the absolute worst time – so photography, blogging and making food for my day are now compressed into about 15 minutes in total. Eek. First things first – photography and blogging, I can (gulp) skip the nutrition or at least cut it down! It’s Thursday which means a new challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches and it’s Karen’s first sketch of the month. Of course since I’m late, my computer has decided to stop reading my SD cards. I was about to use my iPhone but my brother’s computer can read the card. Weird! Anyway, here’s this week’s card:

softly falling

And here’s the sketch which inspired it

I dry embossed a piece of so saffron with the softly falling TIEF and then used one of the old oval framelits to draw a curve on the back which I cut out with my paper snips. Then I heat embossed the sentiment from Endless Birthday Wishes in gold onto a so saffron cardbase and constructed the card. A few of the gold enamel shapes finished the celebratory card.

See you tomorrow,
