Paper Pumpkin February 2017 Alternative 2

I’ve had this card in my head for a week or so but just couldn’t quite finalise it to get to my Paper Pumpkin February 2017 Alternative 2. The “ornament” is actually the candle flame from the kit and thus I’ve actually made a Christmas card in March! I liked the ornament on cherry cobbler but wanted my sentiment in ink rather than heat embossing because the gold embossing powder doesn’t match the ornament. Hence this layout was created.

The gold thread is held onto the ornament with a glue dot and then wrapped under the cherry cobbler piece and secured there. There’s a slight bump where it goes under the cherry cobbler, but it’s minor. I then popped the ornament up with dimensionals and added a bow with another glue dot. Before constructing the card, I stamped my sentiment from Embellished Ornaments because the extra layer would have messed up the stamp-a-ma-jig – and of course, it’s better to do the sentiment early so that you can flip the cardstock over if necessary!

I glued the cherry cobbler piece to my very vanilla layer, standing them up on my desk so that I could be certain that they were lined up properly. Then I added this to a cherry cobbler card base.

Pine Bough Textured Impressions Embossing Folder

Today the star of the card (which feels small after the last two days of huge cards) is the Pine Bough Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. And it’s a really fun and relaxing card to make.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Pine Bough Textured Impressions Embossing Folder - Embellished Ornaments - Mini Pinecones

I started by running a piece of whisper white through the big shot in the Pine Bough Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, or Pine Bough TIEF for short. Then I took a dauber and after sponging a little onto scrap paper, carefully coloured all the raised pine leaves in always artichoke. I tried using a sponge also but because there’s more give in it, it wasn’t as accurate. Truth to tell, there’s an error on this card too, but it’s hidden under the bow! The cherry cobbler greeting comes from one of last year’s sets that carried over – Embellished Ornaments.

For decoration, I used three strands of the cherry cobbler baker’s twine (from the Baker’s Twine Trio Pack) and tied a bow. I then used another piece to attach the fun mini pinecones and attached the whole embellishment with a couple of mini glue dots. I attached this all to an always artichoke card base, a colour that I’m growing rather fond of now that we no longer have mossy meadow. If we still had it, I’d never have appreciated the always artichoke.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Please use the hostess code to get free product; the current one is GWTDK7RM (if your order is over $150, don’t use the code, you get the rewards, but you still get the free gift from me). Peaceful Pines for CAS Colours & Sketches

It’s time for the first sketch challenge of the month at CAS Colours & Sketches, this one set by Jane. And it seemed a great time to make another Christmas card, this time using Peaceful Pines. I’m trying to sneak in a few Christmas cards even though it’s July so that we’ll be off to a good start for later in the year!

Stampin' Up! Peaceful Pines

Here’s the banner which inspired my card and as you can see, I’ve turned it through 180 degrees:

It’s a really fun sketch and allows you to go in pretty much any direction. Why don’t you have a go and put your work in the gallery? You don’t need a blog to enter, you can upload it to public galleries like splitcoaststamper or flickr and link it.

I started by embossing the tree with gold embossing powder (using the Peaceful Pines stamp set) and after cutting it out with the Perfect Pines framelits dies, popped it up with dimensionals on the very vanilla layer. I then stamped the sentiment, from Embellished Ornaments in real red before adhering the very vanilla piece to a real red cardstock.

Delicate Ornaments Thinlits Dies

Well I’m sorry. But yes – it’s time to start thinking about Christmas cards. Slowly, admittedly. But if you start now, you can be relaxed about making them – if you wait until November, it’s a bit of a forced march. I’m planning a monthly class to help you get your Christmas cards under control. But I need to learn that there’s more to Christmas cards than just making them. Last year, I was really late sending them out which makes no sense. I’d made them early enough. Anyway, here’s a card using the delicate ornament thinlits dies for a Christmas challenge at the Paper Players. I love making Christmas cards and the year that I started making cards I expected to make them all year but there’s something that doesn’t work for me, making them in January. How it’s okay to make them in July when it’s hot, I can’t explain!!

Stampin' Up! Delicate oranaments

Here’s the banner which inspired my card

This gave me the perfect opportunity to use my new paper – the fabulous foil designer acetate. These are 6 sheets, 2 each of three designs for $12 and they are gold foil which looks like silver on the other. They are perfect for Christmas. Here’s the picture from the Stampin’ Up! store, beautiful, yes?

Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate

So I used the delicate ornament thinlits dies to cut out the acetate and it was hard. This was when I discovered that there’s a removable backing on the sheet. I guess it protects it, so it’s good to leave it there, but pull it off before you put it on your card. I cut out the two ornaments in the acetate and also in real red and emerald envy (this colour is going to be so amazing for Christmas!). Because the emerald envy bauble is slightly hidden, I used tombow to glue the acetate to the card. For the red ornament, I used a rolled up glue dot under the twine, but it can move. It’s fun that way. I used the retired gold twine (from last year’s holiday catalog) to tie a bow around the neck of each ornament. The green ornament is glued to the very vanilla but the real red one is popped up with dimensionals. So much fun.

The sentiment is from Embellished Ornaments and it’s stamped in real red. I did this first before adding the ornaments and then added the whole piece to a real red cardbase. This isn’t a card that I’d do at a class, it’s a little fiddly with the glue dots, but it’s a fun card to make for a few special people.

If you’re in the US, I hope that you’re enjoying your short week!

See you tomorrow,

Liz

Spritzed Embellished Ornaments

I’m still having fun with my water spritzer and enjoying sharing the amazing variety of effects that it produces.

Stampin' Up! Embellished Ornaments

I began this card by covering the stamp from Embellished Ornaments completely in silver ink and then dabbed on some lost lagoon and watermelon wonder using sponges – and being careful not to contaminate the ink pads by getting enough ink onto the sponges before starting. Then I spritzed the stamp with two sprays of water using the spritzer – the lost lagoon ink IS there, it’s just blended in really well with the silver. I then cut this out using the Delicate Ornament thinlits dies, also cutting out the ornament topper and hook out of silver foil. I cut out the hook from the back of the silver foil paper so that it was pointing in the other direction. Somehow it felt wrong having the hook point to the left when the ornament was angled that way too.

Next I used my embossing buddy on the corner of a watermelon wonder cardbase and then stamped the sentiment, also from Embellished Ornaments, in versamark before sprinkling on the silver embossing powder and heating. Then I glued on the ornament using the multipurpose glue. I finished off the card by cutting out the liner using the envelope liners and the 2015 in color designer series paper stack – this time I actually am showing you the other side of the paper. I usually use the words but they didn’t seem to work here for some reason.

See you tomorrow,
