Designer Tin of Cards

I have a card class on Saturday 18th March and I’m already prepping for it! I think that may be a record. The class is to make the Designer Tin of Cards project kit which consists of a tin, 16 cards and tabs to help organise them. I’m guessing you’re wondering just what there is to prep? Well it’s 4 copies of 4 cards and I decided I wanted to make a few alternatives (no surprise, I know!) in case people wanted some extra variety.

I was a bit surprised to notice that when the card is based on the Moroccan DSP, the shape to go on it is whisper white. So I’ll ensure that I have plenty of very vanilla on hand so that people can swap those out. I also decided that I didn’t want to cover up most of the patterned card and have created 2 cards out of the supplies of one with just a few extra basics.

The large patterned piece is from the kit and I added it to a delightful dijon card base. Next I laid down a strip of the kit’s washi tape folding the ends to crease it where I wanted to cut and then cutting it off. I know that washi is planned as a rough and ready tape, but I don’t like the ragged edges! I cut a little strip of Moroccan DSP to lay on top of some of the washi – in fact that little strip is where I got the delightful dijon from. To continue the colour scheme, I used delightful dijon for the sentiment from the Designer Tin of Cards stamp set (on very vanilla!) and added a layering piece of early espresso cut out using the layering squares framelits dies. I popped this up with dimensionals.

More Moroccan DSP with Designer Tin of Cards

Today I’m sharing another of the cards that I made at my weekend away with the Moroccan DSP to fit into a box that I made which I’ll be sharing soon. Did you also love the patterns in the Moroccan DSP but when it actually came to use it, feel that it’s rather busy? Yes, me too. So here’s another example of how to showcase the pattern without feeling overwhelmed.

Stampin' Up! Moroccan DSP and designer tin of cards

I took a strip of the DSP and added it to the left hand side of my very vanilla card base – I love that Stampin’ Up! has a couple of sets of DSP that include very vanilla this year. I decided to play up the emerald envy in the pattern and stamped my sentiment from the Designer Tin of Cards in that colour. I was obviously in need of a getaway since my brain wasn’t completely on top of things – I forgot my black ink, my stampin’ mist, my whole box of dies and a few other things. I was able to borrow a lot of items, but not all of the dies that I have were available. It’s actually a good in that it shows how essential that box of dies is!

So I borrowed the ovals dies and cut out my sentiment, cutting out a second oval in emerald envy and gluing that to my card front. I popped up the sentiment using dimensionals. For the envelope, I cut a strip at 6 inches by 2 1/8 (it reduces snipping), added the multipurpose glue to the flap and then carefully lined up the strip to the edge of the envelope. If you get it right you only have to trim around the curved edges of the flap.

See you tomorrow for another challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches (and therefore just before 8am),

Designer Tin of Cards Flourish

A friend of mine came over recently to make some invitations to an annual dinner party and we looked at cards I’d made to get some idea of what she liked. It was clear that fairly monochromatic, florals with texture were the way to go and she then invented what I’m calling the Sam Squishing Technique. “Could we”, she said, “glue the cut out onto the card and then emboss it”. I said let’s try it. And we ended up with the die cut looking embedded into the card. It’s really fun. So, as I told her, I’m stealing it! On Sunday, I got together with a few of my friends to make cards, I showed them the Sam Squishing technique and they approved.

Stampin' Up! Designer Tin of Cards and Elegant Dots TIEF

I cut the die cut from the Flourish thinlits dies in dapper denim and then glued it to a piece of very vanilla – I find that the 2 way glue pen is good for this. Then I dry embossed this with the Elegant Dots TIEF. It’s a great look. I mounted this onto a dapper denim card base and then worked on the sentiment which comes from the Designer Tin of Cards. I stamped it in dapper denim onto very vanilla (I really love these colours together) and then cut it out with a circles die. I cut the same size in dapper denim too. The blue circle is glued to the card front and the sentiment is popped up with dimensionals.

I used the same embossing folder on the envelope flap to tie it all together.

Designer Tin of Cards with Washi

I mentioned recently that I wanted to use more washi and so this card started with the washi tape. In this case, it was from two suites – I have the floral boutique designer washi tape and the Pop of Pink designer washi tape. And I also wanted to use my Designer Tin of Cards set which so far hadn’t been inked up.

I read on Pootles’ site recently that on the incentive trip, Pam Morgan demoed the Floral Boutique DSP and suggested treating the navy as a neutral – “navy and white and a pop of bright” and I thought that was an excellent idea. So after I’d put down a piece of the Floral Boutique DWT (Designer Washi Tape), I added a strip of the Pop of Pink DWT. I made both pieces long enough to wrap around the whisper white top layer. Well actually, the first piece wasn’t and I reclaimed that and used it on the envelope. Waste not, want not!

Next I stamped out the beautifully written sentiment from the Designer Tin of Cards set in night of navy on a piece of scrap which I cropped with a circle framelit. I cut another same sized circle from night of navy cardstock so that I could layer them. The night of navy one is glued to the card whereas the whisper white circle is popped up with dimensionals. To continue the pop of pink, I added three enamel shapes in melon mambo to coordinate with the washi tape.

To continue the idea of a pop of bright, I used melon mambo for the sentiment inside the card – this is from one of my favourite sets, Watercolor Wishes.

Designer Tin of Cards

What’s a Designer Tin of Cards? Well I’m glad that you asked!  It’s a project kit that Stampin’ Up! sells which contains the consumables to create 16 cards and a tin to store them in with organising tabs. But it doesn’t include the stamp set, ink or adhesive. I bought the designer tin of cards and also the stamp set of the same name to complete the set.  But the sentiments are fun and definitely aren’t confined to the 16 cards in the kit. As you can see here:

Stampin' Up! Baby Bear and Designer Tin of Cards

Here’s an image showing the project kit. It’s only $27 and if you gather with your friends or demo, you only need one stamp set.

The sentiment is actually bigger than just Thanks, but I coloured just the Thanks in with my Stampin’ Write marker in cherry cobbler. For the bear, I used Baby Bear and intended this to be the start of a recent design card at CAS Colours & Sketches. I stamped the first image in soft suede, stamped off twice, then the second image in the same ink, stamped off once. The final image is stamped, would you believe, in elegant eggplant. There was a colour challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches but the cucumber crush just didn’t want to play with this as a starting point. But I didn’t want to waste the bear. I love the elegant eggplant with the soft suede, it works really well. After getting a smear of ink on the card, I decided to rescue my bear and fussy cut him out. After adding the cherry cobbler sentiment, I popped up the bear on dimensionals. Then I noticed a little cherry cobbler dot but I “fixed” that by putting a cherry cobbler enamel shape over it.

This works well because this card is for a 4 year old. One of my friends at work signed up for Paper Pumpkin’s special offer last month and her sons had a lot of fun playing with it. They both made me a card so I wanted to make cards for them too. This one seems perfect. I dry embossed the envelope with Lucky Stars to match the enamel shape.

See you tomorrow,
