Cupcake Cutouts Framelits Dies

Well it was the House IT Desk (aka my brother) to the rescue. He got me a new card reader and I’m back in business. I decided to celebrate by finally entering another Pootles’ Colour Challenge; recently I’ve been leaving it too late in the week because I know that there’s more time and then suddenly I’ve missed the deadline! Also I wanted to make a card using the cupcake cutouts framelits dies to show why you need them if you don’t already have them. So I banned myself from using the stamp set and just used the dies. Sam’s colours for this week were rich razzleberry, sweet sugarplum, blushing bride and crumb cake. I usually forget about crumb cake so this was a great challenge for me.

Stampin' Up! Cupcake Cutouts framelits dies and Cottage Greetings and Layering Squares Framelits dies

I first cut out a number of the squiggles using the three pinks and decided that they looked very celebratory and should be bursting out joyfully. So then it was a matter of finding the right sentiment that wouldn’t take up too much space so that the squiggles could shine. I found my greeting in the Cottage Greetings set – a really happy one and stamped it in rich razzleberry on crumb cake. I cut it and the rich razzleberry mat using the layering squares framelits dies and then glued on my squiggles ensuring that they continued off the crumb cake cardbase and came together close enough so that my square would cover the ends. To continue the feeling of celebration, I added some enamel shapes in sweet sugarplum and rich razzleberry. The square is popped up on dimensionals so that the ends of the squiggles don’t create a lumpy look. I’ve now got lots of little pieces of cardstock that came out from the loops of the squiggles – I’m contemplating a shaker card with them! The cupcake cutouts framelits dies are a must have in my opinion – very versatile.

See you tomorrow,

Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate 3

Happy Monday! I hope that your week is starting off well – I assume it is if you’re in the UK since it’s a Bank Holiday. For me, a transplant to NJ, I’m off to work, looking forward to next weekend which will be a long one. But first, here’s my Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate 3 which was inspired by CAS on Sunday’s theme this week of balloons.

Stampin' Up! Paper Pumpkin August 2016 alternate

I took one of the card bases and one of the pockets from the kit and used the Balloon Bouquet punch on them in different directions to get these fun coloured balloons. The balloon strings are from Balloon Celebration and are stamped in island indigo to match the DSP as is the sentiment from Cottage Greetings. I offset the balloons a little so that I could keep lots of lovely clean white space.

Next it was simply a matter of arranging the balloons and then gluing them in place, one at a time, to try to keep the bunch as I’d planned. Three of them are glued and the last two are popped up with dimensionals. A pretty simple alternate although it does use quite a few other products – hopefully you have them or some that will work if you want to try this out.

See you tomorrow,

Remarkable You birthday

I made this card a while ago for my friend Jacquie’s birthday; I know she’s received it so it’s safe to post it.

Stampin' Up! Remarkable You and Cottage Greeting

Jacquie’s favourite colours are orange and gold so the palette was easy. And the card is pretty easy too as long as you remember to use the embossing buddy to prevent any stray specks of embossing powder.  So after using the embossing buddy, I stamped the image from the Stampin’ Up! Remarkable You set, sprinkled on the gold powder and then heated the powder. It definitely helps to turn on the heat tool and have it heat up for a minute before starting to melt the powder. It’s also good to leave the card for a minute or two afterwards – I once smeared the gold embossing by touching it immediately afterwards. Then use the embossing buddy again – even if you already swiped it over all of the card – before stamping the sentiment. This one is from Cottage Greetings and seems appropriate for a birthday. I matted the piece of tangelo twist with gold foil before putting it onto a tangelo twist card base. Definitely one very orange and gold card! I stamped one of the flowers in tangelo twist onto the envelope as well.

See you tomorrow,

Best Thoughts for the Global Design Project

Sometimes I know the general direction that a card is going in, sometimes I have no idea. This is one of the latter occasions. I saw that the Global Design Project had a colour challenge this week and decided to have a go.

Stampin' Up! Best Thoughts and Cottage Greetings

Here’s the colour banner which inspired the card:

I decided that the pear pizzazz and the soft sky could be sky and grass and that I’d do some watercolouring. I had pieces of card of each of the colours out on my desk whilst I was thinking about what to do and the soft sky happened to have a circle cut out of it. So I used it as my template. I wet the piece of watercolor paper with water before adding colour – I messed up at one point and the aquapainter pushed under the card template and my circle wasn’t perfect. I was about to redo it, when I thought that the whole point of watercoloring is that is ISN’T perfect and added more colour around the circle to soften all the edges of the circle. Then I went on a search for an appropriate image to add. After discarding various flowers, I settled on the butterfly from the hostess set Best Thoughts which I stamped in archival basic black. I added full strength daffodil delight to the spots on the butterfly and a paler strength for the rest of the butterfly.  After framing the watercolor paper with a little pear pizzazz I added it to a soft sky card base. I had thoughts to pull out my greetings dies (again) but it was too heavy; Cottage Greetings was out (I’d been looking at the flowers) and I realised that the thanks would work well. It’s also stamped in my favourite archival basic black. There was a bit of a risk taken with this card – for some reason, I stamped the thanks last. It would have been much safer to have done that before adhering the pear pizzazz to the card base – there’s no way it will ever come off, it’s stuck on there with the mighty fast fuse! Apparently I’m taking risks today.

See you tomorrow,

Moon Lake

Moon Lake is a retired stamp set but one that I can’t see me removing from my personal stash. It’s a really useful set for a masculine card. This card came about after watching my friend Julia make a card with this set using black and white and I wondered about  adding just a little colour.

Stampin' Up! Moon Lake and Cottage Greetings

So I stamped the image in Jet black memento ink (since this was before I had my new favourite, the Stampin’ Up! archival basic black ink) onto whisper white card. Using an aquapainter with very little water, I added some garden green to the boat. To keep the card from being too stark, I stamped the image, from the not retired Stampin’ Up! Cottage Greetings set in garden green. A small basic black mat behind the white gives the image a good frame and then I decided to have a good amount of the card base visible to pull all the green together.

I like how this card came out, I’ll have to look at my current sets to see other options for adding just a touch of colour.

See you tomorrow,
