Merry Mice Stamp Set

This is an adorable card, I made it at the weekend at the crop. Julia had the Merry Mice set and I decided that I needed to play with it.

I stamped him in archival basic black and then coloured him in with markers – garden green, cherry cobbler, smoky slate and blushing bride in the ears – the ears were too bright so I used a blender pen to soften them. I then found a sweater pattern from the Warmth and Cheer DSP stack and stamped the mouse onto it and cut out his sweater. Somehow I got really lucky and the pattern was perfectly centred and makes the mouse look so cosy. Next I cut him out with the stitched shapes framelits dies. I also stamped just the star onto a piece of gold glimmer paper and fussy cut out the star. To finish off my card, I used the Christmas Greetings Thinlits and a scrap of gold glimmer paper to make the jolly. I dry embossed the envelope flap with the Holly TIEF.

These stitched dies are available now in advance of next year’s annual catalog and to really sweeten the deal, there are a number of coordinating sets available at 25% off this month – Merry Mice is one of them.

Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies

When I got home last night, my latest order had been delivered from Stampin’ Up! And this one contained the brand new Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies released early on November 1st. Stitching has been a trend for a while and I was thrilled that these have been released because whilst I’m not about to start actually stitching on a card, I do love the look of the stitches.

Also in my order was the Fancy Frost Specialty DSP which was brought to my attention by my adopted upline, Eimear. Actually Eimear is my sister Caro’s upline but that UK based team has kindly let me be part of their fun and are encouraging me to go to the Live Onstage event in Europe with them next April. You can’t split up sisters now can you?! And yes, I double dip – I’m going away this weekend to MY upline’s cropping event, one that my sister has gone to as well. The stamping community is very friendly. Anyway, back to the card…

I very lightly sponged the fancy frost specialty DSP in always artichoke using a sponge and glued that to an always artichoke card base. I stamped one of my favourite trees from Totally Trees onto whisper white and cut it out with my brand new Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies and created an always artichoke mat using the layering ovals. The merry comes from the Christmas Greetings thinlits and it’s been cut out in cajun craze. To tie it all together, I used an enamel shape in the same colour. Since I was going to have the sentiment overlapping the image, I glued everything down flat. I look forward to playing some more with the stitched dies tonight.

Square Pillow Box Thinlits dies

I’ve been pushing myself lately to do more sketch challenges – normally when a challenge site offered a sketch, I’d skip off to another site to find a colour challenge. But it’s rather rewarding to wrestle with a sketch and come up with something that feels right. Both for you and the sketch, that is. So the sketch challenge at Pals Paper Arts has been percolating in my brain for a couple of days. I wanted to really include the sketch in the design rather than adding three somethings almost as an extra.

Stampin' Up! Christmas Greetings Thinlits and Square Pillow Box Thinlits and Endless Wishes

Here’s the sketch that inspired my card – as you can see, I flipped the sketch.

I remembered that the square pillow box thinlits dies has three trios of images including these trees. The dies are retiring at the end of the year, so grab it now! I cut them out of the very vanilla cardstock and liked how the mossy meadow looks peeking from behind. Martin said he would prefer a different green – apparently he’s not as addicted to mossy meadow as I am. I then bypassed my much used merry die from the Christmas Greetings thinlits dies and went with jolly which I cut out of the gold foil. The Christmas sentiment is from the retired Endless Wishes set – I like how it nestles in between the j and the y. I know that there’s a technical term for the parts of the letters below the line but I can’t remember what it is. And it’s not important! This would really be an easy card to mass produce. Even with lining the envelope – I tend to cut out two liners at a time since the DSP is a lot thinner than card stock. That was you build up a stack of liners which makes dressing up your envelopes very quick.

Holly Jolly Greetings

There’s a great challenge on a the Paper Players this week – a CAS Christmas card, of which I’ve made a number of lately.

Stampin' Up! Holly Jolly Greetings and Christmas Greetings thinlits

I made this at the crop that I attended recently and the card all started with the red enamel dot. I was determined to actually use one. My fellow stampers were all waiting for me to announce that I was going to put the dot back in the package, (and I may have threatened it!) but I persevered. I first tried stamping a deer image and using the dot as the nose, but it was too big. I’m happy about that because I really like how this one came out. I heat embossed the snowflake from Holly Jolly Greetings using gold embossing powder on very vanilla (don’t forget the embossing buddy!). The new precision plate made quick work of cutting out the merry from Christmas greetings thinlits in gold foil. I used my pick me up tool to help position the enamel dot exactly where I wanted it. The tool has something like blu-tak in it so it holds onto embellishments but not so hard that you struggle to get it to let go. Perfect for this use.

I then mounted the very vanilla onto a real red card base and finished off the card by making the envelope coordinate. I’m still working my way through my retired backgrounds DSP, cutting out the liner with the Envelope Liners framelits. These are definitely my most used framelits since they are used on almost every card.

My Paper Pumpkin arrived yesterday. 🙂 I got a nice surprise when I emptied the mailbox around 9pm. I’m hoping to play with it tonight.

See you tomorrow,

Christmas Greetings Thinlits and washi

One of the things in the goody bag last weekend was washi tape – winter wonderland designer washi tape to be specific. In fact, I think that every goody bag that I’ve had at the crop weekends so far contain some and I’ve never used it. So I was determined to use it on a card.

Stampin' Up! Christmas Greetings thinlits

I decided to use it as an accent to my red foil merry which I cut out with the Christmas Greetings thinlits dies. I wrapped the washi around a piece of very vanilla and found that it’s REALLY forgiving. You can remove it and move it and stick it down countless times. I tried adding a third strip of the third roll of washi but it was going a bit far and I reverted to the two strips. The merry is sitting on the top strip and I used the fine tip glue pen to adhere it. Also easy. The piece of washi taped wrapped very vanilla is mounted on a card base of real red. Since I still haven’t ordered the new brights DSP stack, I’m using up the retired background for the envelope liner. It’s a good use of retired DSP in my opinion. And goodness knows, I have a lot of it!

Let me know how you like my first use of washi. I also found that it’s useful to seal up packets of mint m&ms if for some reason you didn’t eat them all.

See you tomorrow,

Liz
