Sending Good Thoughts

I’m just sliding in under the wire to enter my submission to the Addicted To CAS challenge which has the codeword of dots.

I’ve been contemplating this challenge for about a week but it took the deadline looming to really get me focused. I love the tangelo twist and white paper from the Confetti pack, which is a surprise because I struggle with orange. However only having 2 colours in the paper helps to keep it more simple. I pulled out the Stampin’ Up! Perfect Pennant set which arrived earlier this week and was so far unused and contemplated the tangelo twist DSP and the stamp set. And I was determined to finally use ribbon. Actually, I’ve used it a couple of times, but in a very minimalist way and never a bow. So the challenge became the DSP, ribbon and orange. Here’s where I ended up:

Stampin' Up! Perfect Pennants

I used the white embossing powder for the sentiment and then cropped it with the #4 banner framelit (counting from the smallest) I initially intended to add a border in the same shape around the orange banner and cropped the DSP with the #4 and #6 banners which obviously left me with a banner the same size as my sentiment in the DSP. I decided that I preferred the 2 banners on the card to one with a border. I guess my next challenge will be to use the border! As I tied the bow in the tangelo orange the card seemed to need something else. My brother commented that it was a bit, well, too orange so I tried the blackberry bliss ribbon and really liked the effect. I usually take out my ribbon and look at it and then put it away after deciding it’s a bit too much for the card – I’m glad I got some on the card today!

I used some more of the DSP to line the envelope to really tie it all together.

Avocets or oystercatchers?

I’m not really sure what the birds on this stamp actually are (if they are in fact a real type) but having consulted with my mother, a keen birdwatcher, I’m pretty sure that they should be black and white. I had previously coloured them in a wheat kind of colour but for this card, I left them alone, giving them the effect of basking in the sun’s rays washing out the colour. This is another card I made with my friend Julia’s need for “thinking of you” cards in mind.

waders sahara stone

Base: 8.5″ by 5.5″ in sahara sand

Mat: 4″ by 5.25″ wisteria wonder

Top layer: 3.75″ by 5″ sahara sand

Stamp sets: Wetlands, A dozen thoughts

Ink: versamark

This stamp in the Wetlands set seems under used to me. I love the peacefulness of the image; it brings to mind the end of the day and relaxation, watching the sun go down. I stamped the birds in versamark and then used clear embossing powder to produce the shiny, restrained result. I did the same with the sentiment. I simply matted it on the wisteria wonder and I feel that the simplicity of the design adds to the restful feeling that the card imparts.

Thinking of Koalas

I really liked the single stamp, Kind Koala although I wasn’t sure how versatile it would be. However for $9.95 I figured, how could I go wrong? And now that I have it, I can see more possibilities than I expected. I got it last week in my Big Order (I got money for Stampin’ Up! for my birthday đŸ˜€ ) and there’s been so much to play with that I’ve only just used the stamp.

For the first go around, I went with the obvious. I stamped the image and coloured it in. But I really like how it came out.

cajun craze koala

Base: Cajun craze 8.5″ by 5.5″

Top layer: Sahara sand 4″ by 5.25″

This is so easy that you don’t need instructions. But just in case…

I stamped the image using memento black ink which I really like. I don’t actually have the classic Stampin’ Up! basic black but I hear that it’s easy to smudge. I do have the black stazon but having to use the special stamp cleaner is an extra step that I don’t really enjoy. So the memento is my favourite, smudge-free and easily cleaned with the regular stampin’ mist.

I then took a regular cajun craze stampin’ marker and coloured in the flower, his nose and the “YOU”. I adhered the sahara sand layer to the base that was it apart from the backgrounds DSP in cajun craze to decorate the envelope. Simple, easy and really cute. I’m planning on masking parts of this stamp and changing the sentiments as well as the flower. Stay tuned.

Sending good thoughts

A friend asked me to make a thinking of you/good thoughts kind of card for a male colleague who is going through some treatment. I assumed that I’d have something suitable but, after looking through my ever growing box of cards, I could find nothing that works. Here, then, is what I produced.

Stampin' Up! Lovely as a Tree

Base: Very vanilla 8.5″ by 5.5″

Mat: Always artichoke 4″ by 5 1/4″

Top layer: Very vanilla 3 3/4″ by 5″

Stamp set: Lovely as a tree, Too kind

Ink: Always artichoke

This is a very simple and, I think, effective card. I merely took the tree image from the Lovely as a tree stamp set again and, using the stamp-a-ma-jig printed it in always artichoke ink. I added the sentiment from the Too kind stamp set – I used the stamp-a-ma-jig for that too although looking at the card now in the photo, I can see that I didn’t use it very effectively! All that was left was to glue the layers together (I’ve become addicted to the tombow liquid glue since there’s a little time to wiggle things before it sets) and line the envelope. The liner was cut out using the regals backgrounds DSP and the envelope liners framelits.

See you tomorrow,

Liz
