Cards for the gift bags

As I mentioned yesterday, I wanted to make some cards to go into the gift bags that I created to thank my new Paper Pumpkin subscribers. The bag isn’t big enough to hold my normal sized cards so since I would need to make envelopes, I turned to the new in colours since I have the new envelope paper in these shades. Or maybe I just wanted to play with more of the new colours.

Cards sized 3″ by 4″ will fit happily in the bag and even more happily I found that an envelope for this size card needs a piece of paper 6″ by 6″ so I can get four envelopes out of one sheet of paper. Very nice.

Stampin' Up! Because you care and Million & One

I started with very vanilla card stock and stamped the sentiment from the Million & One set in mint macaron. This set is retiring so you only have until next week to get it if you want it! I then took some mint macaron card stock and using lost lagoon ink used some sentiments from the hostess set Because You Care. This is also retiring. As you can see, they pair beautifully with the envelopes made with the mint macaron envelope paper and there’s no need for lining since the inside of the paper already has a good liner – like pattern.

Stampin' Up! Million & One and Larger than life

I decided that the tip top taupe would pair nicely with the mint macaron. I decided to take it up a notch by embossing the sentiment from Million & One with gold embossing powder onto the tip top taupe. I then pulled out the Larger Than Life set and stamped the first initial of both of my subscribers onto a very vanilla card in tip top taupe. I’ll have to ensure that they get the right bag! I made the envelopes out of the tip top taupe envelope paper.

If you’d like a set of cards, you know what to do. Subscribe to Paper Pumpkin using the button on the side which will take you to the Paper Pumpkin site with me as your demonstrator!

See you tomorrow,

Painted Petals for the Pals

I’ve been back from Spain for three weeks now – it feels like months! – but haven’t really got back into doing many challenges. I decided to change that today. Especially as yesterday I sat down to have some fun carding and couldn’t create anything. Perhaps I’m just too distracted with the thought that my pre-order containing my new supplies, including the new in colors is on the way.

Stampin' Up! Painted Petals

The challenge banner from the Pals Paper Arts that inspired this card is:

I’m very sad that the Painted Petals set didn’t make it into the new upcoming annual catalogue and so I may possibly be over using this set at the moment! I stamped the flowers in hello honey on very vanilla cardstock and added the stems in the coastal cabana. I then used my aquapainter and baked brown sugar to slightly darken the parts of the flowers which are supposed to be darker. I used the stampin’ write markers in hello honey and baked brown sugar to colour in the sentiment, breathing on the stamp to remoisten the ink before stamping. This card was calling out to be square, so I went with it – it’s fun and easy to make an envelope with the punch board. I changed up the layers a bit – I realised that I normally have only 1/16″ or 1/8″ showing for the mat so decided to do something different i.e. bigger. I like how it draws your eye to the centre of the card which is, after all, the focal point.

Continuing Painted Blooms

I’m going to miss the Painted Blooms DSP and the Painted Petals stamp set which hasn’t made it into the new annual catalogue, sadly. So I’d better use them a lot in the month that I have left!

Stampin' Up! Painted Petals and Painted Blooms

This is the fourth in the series of cards made with one sheet of the 12 by 12 inch Painted Blooms DSP. The sentiment comes from the Painted Petals set and is stamped in blackberry bliss on whisper white. I cut it out using the circles framelits and then cut the next size larger in blackberry bliss for the matting. I glued the DSP piece onto a base of blackberry bliss and then popped the sentiment up on stampin’ dimensionals. The outside flap of the envelope is lined in the backgrounds DSP.

For the birds – retiring

This is a set that’s retiring at the end of May and I only recently acquired it. It had its first outing at the crop earlier this month.

Stampin' Up! For The Birds

I started with a quarter sheet of the watercolour paper and stamped the image from the For The Birds set in jet black stazon. Since the paper is bumpy, you need to give a bit more pressure than usual to get a good image. I gave it a few minutes to dry and then used my aquapainter to colour it in. The colours are pear pizzazz, so saffron with a little calypso coral on the birds’ breasts and real red for the heart. I tried several different mats and a skinny basic black one set off the card the best. Since the piece of watercolour paper was only 3″ by 4.5″ this leaves a pretty large border around the edge of the card which I think it very effective. The card base is pear pizzazz. As is the envelope liner – from the retiring backgrounds DSP.

I think I’ll take this card to the shop where I got an outfit for last week’s interview. The lady was extremely helpful – even steaming the creases out of the blouse for me.

See you tomorrow,

Liz

Mixed bunch of feelings

Every year Stampin’ Up! retires items from the annual catalogue prior to bringing out the new catalogue. There are, apparently, 112 stamp sets on the list (no, I didn’t count them), twenty of which I own so I thought I’d pull some of them out and play. They are also retiring the 2013-2015 in colours to make room for the upcoming 2015-2017 ones. Whilst there is excitement at seeing what will be in the new catalogue, I’m sad to be losing strawberry slush which is my favourite pink. Twenty is a lot of stamp sets but of course it could have been a lot more. This card uses two of my soon-to-be-retired sets, Mixed Bunch and Lots of Thanks.

Stampin' Up! Mixed Bunch and Lots of Thanks

It looks fairly simple but it took a fair amount of work with ruler and pencil. I made the piece of very vanilla 5 inches across so that each stamp had an inch and I marked the centre of each inch – as well as having a horizontal line. After I stamped them and erased the pencil lines I managed to smear the ink and the lines didn’t erase completely. I’d show you the smeared result but it is now glued to the card that you see in the photo. It’s so useful that there are two sides to a piece of card! This time I had only a bottom horizontal line and vertical lines below it to show the centre of each stamp. I then erased the part of the horizontal line that would be stamped over and tried again. As you can see, no smearing. The ink colours are strawberry slush and sahara sand – a combination I got from another retiring item – the colour coach. The sentiment is from Lots of Thanks – a very useful set. I assume that there will be a replacement.

The sahara sand mat is 1/8 inch bigger in each dimension and is mounted on a strawberry slush base. I dry embossed the envelope flap with spring flowers since it was still out after a class last night.

See you tomorrow,
