The greetings thinlits are new in the annual catalogue and I’ve found that I have a weakness for die cutting words. The goody bag at the recent crop weekend had a piece of all the papers in the Farmers Market DSP, not a paper that I would have chosen, but I would have been making a mistake. The papers are really fun.
I matted my piece of DSP on mossy meadow and then mounted that on soft suede, both colours of which are in the DSP. The orange is actually tangerine tango but I found that pumpkin pie went better with the DSP. And now I have a tangerine tango thanks cut out and ready to use on another project. I used the 2 way glue pen again to make it easy to adhere the word although there’s a new fine tip glue pen to try out soon which might be even easier. I used a scrap of the DSP to line the outside of the envelope flap.
Here’s a CAS card using a couple of the new in colours, delightful dijon and watermelon wonder.
I used one of the small flower “insides” from the Flower Patch set, stamped in the two colours. The sentiment, stamped in watermelon wonder, is from a just retired hostess set, Because You Care although it’s only half of the sentiment. The Hello that’s the top portion of the sentiment was just too big for this card. I stamped on a piece of very vanilla and mounted that on a watermelon wonder card base. And that’s it. Easy to reproduce this one.
Amazingly, today I’ve made a card (two actually) for a sketch challenge. I find sketches very difficult because usually there is just too much stuff on them. But I’ve found a CAS sketch challenge blog, CAS(E) this sketch. I think I’ll be returning to this site frequently. I made my card and then, just as I was about to photograph it, decided it wasn’t right and so I had to redo it. Here’s my second card:
and here’s the sketch that it’s based on:
All of the images are from the soon to be retiring Painted Petals set. I’ve stamped the lines and dots in hello honey on very vanilla and the sentiment is in mossy meadow. The sentiment is actually a single stamp. I mounted the very vanilla onto a mossy meadow card base.
My original card was more focused on the sketch and the thank and you are further apart. Here are the two cards together. Since I’m entering the second card in the challenge, I clearly like that better. What do you think?
I used the May image from the Perpetual Birthday calendar set and the retiring colour Strawberry Slush and stamped it multiple times across the diagonal. The sentiment comes from the retiring set Painted Petals – I’m very sad to see this one go. I won’t be retiring it from my personal stash! The piece of very vanilla is mounted onto a base of strawberry slush. And that’s it!
This would be very easily mass produced if you happened to need a stack of thank you cards. And of course changing the colours would make the stamping more interesting after the first five or so!
Firstly I’d like to thank the Design Team 2 at the Pals Paper Arts for selecting my card as a winner this week. It’s an honour to be recognised. I’ve happily added the badge to my awards page.
I’d also like to thank the City Crafter Challenge blog team for selecting my card for their Spotlight Artists award. Two badges in one day is pretty awesome!
The Paper Players‘ challenge this week is for a Clean and Simple “Girly thanks” card. I can definitely do the clean and simple, that’s what my cards tend to be, the girly thanks part needed a little effort.
This is a deceptively simple card but it took a number of attempts. I started off making a vertical card but it wasn’t going the way I wanted. Then I wanted a large very vanilla border and managed to mess up the cutting and the image portion was too small. But finally, I got it right. The image is from Flowering Flourishes and I stamped it in rose red on the very vanilla (which, in case you’re wondering is 5/8 inch smaller than the card base). The sentiment comes from the soon to be retiring set Painted Petals which is one of my favourite sets at the moment. I then matted this with a piece of rose red which is just 1/8 inch larger than the very vanilla. I like the effect given by a skinny mat. This was then mounted on a very vanilla card base.
I lined the envelope with a piece of the backgrounds DSP in rose red (also retiring but new patterns are coming out in the new catalogue) cut to size using the envelope liner framelits. When I need a liner, I tend to cut out 8 at a time so that they are ready to go. I don’t line the entire envelope since it’s not visible, instead I cut a piece of 12 by 12 into 8 piece 3 by 6 inches and then cut them out with the framelits two at a time. I figure that the DSP is much thinner than the cardstock so two shouldn’t be a problem. I even score them (also two at a time) using my stampin’ trimmer so it’s easy to grab one and line an envelope.
