Acorny thank you

Today I decided to make a card using one of the sets that isn’t actually retiring because I’m grateful that it isn’t – Acorny Thank You!

Stampin' Up! Acorny Thank you and Watercolor Wishes

Although I didn’t get completely off the retired list! I used the stamps with versamark to create a fun background on mossy meadow card stock. I just put pairs of the photopolymer stamps each onto a block and stamped randomly away ensuring that some of the images were off the edges of the card to give a sense of the pattern continuing. Since I had the versamark out, I also used it for the sentiment which is again from the Watercolor Wishes set and I heat embossed using the gold embossing powder. I cut this out using the retiring ovals framelits and made a frame using gold foil and the next size up oval framelit. Construction was a simple matter of using multipurpose glue and then popping up the sentiment with dimensionals.

It didn’t make the photo, but I used my envelope liners and the retired backgrounds DSP to dress up the envelope.

I can’t believe now that I was reluctant to get the Acorny Thank you set – I couldn’t see much use for it, but it’s one of my favourite sets now. I’m sure that this will happen to me again with the new catalogue!

See you tomorrow,

Chalk Lines for CAS Colours & Sketches

Today is the beginning of Caro’s first sketch challenge over at CAS Colours & Sketches. I hope that you’ll pop over to see what the other design team members have created as well and to join in the fun yourself.

Stampin' Up! Chalk Lines and Watercolor Wishes

Here’s Caro’s sketch which inspired my card:

I took liberties by adding a sentiment but it’s clear that the sketch inspired the card! I used the stamp from Chalk Lines which I’ve never inked up before – just in time since the set is retiring at the end of the month. I decided to go monochromatic and inked it in watermelon wonder and stamped on very vanilla. I turned the image through 180 degrees for the second stamping to create a very symmetrical look.

Next I added a sentiment in watermelon wonder which comes from the Watercolor Wishes set. Yes, again. I am definitely overusing this set! Have you ever found a set that just works everywhere and you can’t stop inking it up?

I then added my very vanilla piece to a watermelon wonder card base. And that’s the very CAS card for this week’s challenge.

I hope that you’ll have a go at this challenge – it would be great to see you in the gallery.

See you tomorrow,

Liz

Remarkable You

I have been meaning to play with Remarkable You for a while and today I realised that if I took off the stalk, it would look like a waterlily. And that sounded like fun.

Stampin' Up! Remarkable You and Tin of Cards

This is a set that I’m happy is making it to the new catalogue. I meant to have a watercoloured background of water or leaves but somehow that didn’t make it to the end result.

I stamped the flower from Remarkable You in melon mambo on very vanilla and then used an aquapainter to put a really pale wash of the same colour onto the flower. I then snipped it out – not as bad as it looks. Next I stamped the thanks, from Watercolour Wishes (yes again, I keep using this set!) in melon mambo and then the border comes from Tin of Cards. I love this border, I’ve only used it a couple of times so far but it creates a beautiful frame. Next I popped up my flower with dimensionals and that’s my almost one layer card done.

To make the envelope interesting, I dry embossed the envelope flap with the retired Spring Flowers TIEF. I’m getting in practice for the retirement of the envelope liners framelits!

See you tomorrow,

Grateful Bunch and pearls for CC&S

Grateful bunch is making an appearance again for my design card for CAS Colours & Sketches‘ current sketch challenge. It’s a super simple sketch that you can take in almost any direction – Louise just wants to see the curves in your design.

Stampin'; Up! Grateful Bunch and Watercolor Wishes

Here’s the banner which inspired my card

I coloured in parts of the leaf stamp from Grateful Bunch that were the most angled with my mossy meadow Stampin’ Write marker and used them as one of the curve elements. I used the flowers as the second curve element stamping them in blackberry bliss and hello honey but it’s hard to be sure now. I’d stamped these out 2 weeks ago when I was doing the previous sketch! The sentiment comes from the set included in the Watercolor Wishes kit – I find I am using this stamp set a great deal at the moment. Same goes for mossy meadow! I glued the very vanilla piece to a mossy meadow card base and decided that was my card.

The next morning, I decided that there was something missing and realised that the pearl embellishments would finish the card perfectly.

I don’t use a lot of embellishments since I do adore CAS cards, but when the stamping is so minimal, the embellishments work and the card still stays CAS. And I do like embellishments as the centres of flowers.

I hope you’ll pop over to the challenge site and check out the inspiration from the rest of the design team and then have a go yourself. I hope to see you in the gallery.

See you tomorrow,

Liz

Wildflower Fields and the in colors

I was rather happy with how my card turned out for the design team last week and since I cut the DSP at an angle for that card, I had another similar piece. I decided to colour this using the retiring in colors. I was going to colour just a few of the dots but in the end, colouring them all worked better. I did around an equal number of each colour but then coloured all the remainder in mossy meadow.

Stampin' Up! Wildflower Fields DSP

So after colouring the dots in mossy meadow, hello honey, blackberry bliss, lost lagoon and tangelo twist, I tried all of the card bases to see what would work. In the end, I decided on whisper white and mounted the DSP onto a card base of thick whisper white. Then I added a sentiment in mossy meadow (from my current favourite, Watercolor Wishes) mostly because I have enamel dots in mossy meadow and I’m trying to use up retiring embellishments. So I added the mossy meadow enamel dots in a couple of sizes.

I’d like to give a warm welcome to my new blog follower. I’m so happy that you’ve elected to receive my posts in your inbox. Just let me know if you have any questions – the same goes for all my readers.

See you tomorrow – a little later since it’s a Thursday and it’s a new challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches and I need to coordinate with their posting.
