Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate 4

Today it’s time for my Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate 4 using the Bold Botanicals kit.

Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate 4

I took one of the crumb cake/kraft pieces of card stock and stamped the hello in early espresso. Next I used the embossing buddy and then heat embossed the flowers with gold embossing powder. I cut down the piece of card to allow more of the patterned paper (also from the kit) to show. I added a piece of early espresso to mat the calypso coral DSP. I then popped this entire piece up on dimensionals and attached it to a crumb cake base. Pretty quick and simple. I did wonder about using the new(ish) copper embossing powder but wasn’t sure how it would look with the crumb cake – I may have to make another in copper!

Tomorrow is Thursday which means it’s time for another challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches and time for a new hostess, Karen. You still have time to get in under the wire on this week’s challenge, it closes at 6pm EST tonight. But get ready for September which has five Thursdays and thus the final challenge will be the double. This sketch challenge combined with colours intimidated me at first, but it’s a lot of fun. Do join in the 4 challenges before it to get yourself ready!

See you tomorrow,

Liz

Tuscan Vineyard Watercolor

Apparently when I don’t have a card design in my head, I start watercolouring and then a card will appear. This is what happened with this card – what do you do when you want to make a card and you don’t have any inspiration? Tuscan Vineyard created a number of cards for me this way!

Stampin' Up! Tuscan Vineyard and Watercolor Wishes

I stamped the image in black stazon, grabbed some inks and my aquapainter and started colouring away. I started with the tall trees in always artichoke, a colour that was completely replaced for me by mossy meadow. Now that mossy meadow has retired, I’ve started using always artichoke! Next the vineyards and bushes, round trees and fields were in differing strengths of garden green. I used crumb cake for the mountains and sahara sand for the house. I wanted to make the house stand out, hence the cherry cobbler roof. Finally I coloured the sky with marina mist. Once I’d completed this, I decided to use a cherry cobbler base to pull the house out even more but decided to have double layers of cherry cobbler. Before committing my watercolouring to the card, I made sure that my sentiment was good – it’s embossed in black and from my favourite Watercolor Wishes set.

I made this at the crop and thus didn’t have my dies with me (I’m never forgetting them again!) and had to borrow what was available. I cropped my watercolouring using one of the ovals collection but I didn’t want a really thick border. I actually trimmed down the black oval to the indentation that occurred when cutting it out giving me a smaller border. If you look carefully you can see that the oval isn’t perfect, but until I started writing this, I’d forgotten that I did it by hand, so the imperfections are not jumping out.

I hope that you have some time to play with Tuscan Vineyard, it’s a lot of fun. I have a few more cards made with this set to share in the coming days.

See you tomorrow,

Festive Birthday DSP for CAS(E) this Sketch

As I started to play with the new products that arrived last week, I was rather surprised that the first three cards all used DSP, not a new stamp set in sight! For someone who initially struggled to use any DSP at all, this was surprising and a breakthrough! Festive Birthday DSP is very bright and cheerful, and perfect for birthdays.

Stampin' Up! Festive Birthdays DSP and Hello You thinlits

I took the layout from this week’s CAS(E) this Sketch which gives loads of room for interpretation.

I used a strip from the Festive Birthday DSP, which I cut at 2 1/4 inches by 12 so that I had a piece for the card and a matching piece for the envelope flap. I used the raised edge of the Stampin’ Up! trimmer to push my piece of whisper white against as well as the DSP so that I could get them perfectly in line. Then I picked melon mambo as the colour that I wanted to feature and cut out the hello from the Hello You thinlits dies. I then glued my whisper white to my melon mambo card base.

For the envelope, I took the remainder of my DSP piece and glued it to the envelope flap using the multipurpose glue. It was pretty easy to snip the excess off with my paper snips to get a perfectly matching envelope.

My paper pumpkin arrived on Saturday and I’m busy working on alternatives to the kit. Stay tuned.

Serene Scenery DSP Stack

Okay is the Serene Scenery DSP Stack one of the most gorgeous you’ve seen? Yes, I thought so!  One side of the paper we have photos and the other is patterns. What’s not to love? I decided to pair one of the photos which has the sun peeking through with the awesome word die cut from the Sunshine Wishes thinlits dies.

Stampin' Up! Serene Scenery DSP

The stack has old olive and delightful dijon as a couple of the mentioned colours and so the skinny mat of old olive made sense. I tossed up between crumb cake and delightful dijon for the base and the sunshine diecut but the crumb cake was a little too bland. The delightful dijon on the other hand was fun. So I stamped the hello first in old olive – it’s from the Crazy About You set – and then glued the DSP to the old olive. I added that to the delightful dijon card base. Next came the sunshine from the Sunshine Wishes thinlits and I included the dot over the i which I hadn’t really noticed previously. The Pick Me Up tool (available from Amazon) really helps with tiny pieces of cardstock or embellishments.

If you’re using a DSP stack, you can get enough DSP for your envelope flap if you make the DSP 3 3/4″ by 5″. This really means that you need an extra mat, but being able to cover the outside flap of the envelope to coordinate is worth it!

Take a look at your DSP stacks and have some fun!

See you tomorrow,

Paper Pumpkin June 2016 alternate

I’m calling this a Paper Pumpkin June 2016 alternate although I am using a few extra products – however they are easy to switch out if you haven’t got what I used. I wanted to show that the dotty circle stamps makes for a really fun background and since I had a “sunshine” on my pile of die cuts that I was “just cutting to see how they looked’ (tell me you do that too!), it begged to be added to the card.

Stampin' Up! Paper Pumpkin June 2016 alternate - Banner Surprise and Sunshine Wishes and Crazy about you

I started with the idea of just doing 5 circles across the card in pumpkin pie and melon mambo but I needed to fill in the bottom of the card too for balance. I looked at the sentiments in the Paper Pumpkin Banner Surprise kit and although they are useful (happy, birthday, graduation, anniversary etc) they didn’t go with my sunshine die cut from the Sunshine Wishes thinlits set. So I pulled out the Crazy About You, a set that I’m so grateful has carried over along with its thinlits, and stamped the HELLO in crushed curry – the same colour as my die cut by the way.

I tried all three of the colours that I’ve used as a base or even as a mat but there was already enough colour and I finally decided on a thick whisper white card base. So that’s it – my first Paper Pumpkin June 2016 alternate. I think it’s a very happy card, let me know what you think.

See you tomorrow,
