Merry Patterns

I had a play with the candles from the Merry Patterns and I love them. I’m banning myself from making another Christmas card until I’ve made a non-Chrismassy one!

I started with the outline in archival black and then use real red and tranquil tide to fill in the candles. It took me a couple of attempts to get it right – you need to ensure that you look at both the left and right candles when lining up. Same with the candle flames – I’d got it slightly off on the right hand side which meant that it was quite off on the left. But that was a test piece, or had become one, because I’d used my embossing buddy and smeared the archival black ink. It’s essential that it’s completely dry before you use the buddy – for the replacement I used the heat tool on the lowest setting!

I added the evergreens, also in tranquil tide and then mounted this piece on a piece of gold foil to match the flames. The finishing touch was a little bow using the real red 1/8 inch solid ribbon.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project.

Snowflake Sentiments Bundle

Julia and I were flicking through the Christmas catalog at the weekend as she wanted to put in an order to get the Blends and to take advantage of the buy 3 get 4 paper sale and we came across the Snowflake Sentiments Bundle.  “Does one of us have this” she asked? I searched through our orders and discovered that no, neither of us had it. We live about 10-15 minutes from each other (it depend who’s driving!) so for some sets only one of us gets them. There are many of course where we both need them in our own craft room! We immediately added it to her order shocked that somehow we’d messed that up. We’ve decided that for the next catalog, we need to mark carefully who has what so that it’s obvious if we’ve overlooked something both of us thinking that the other one of us has it.

So since we don’t have the Snowflake Sentiments Bundle yet, here’s the Stampin’ Up! video showing how beautiful it is. No. I can’t understand how we missed this either!

Merry Patterns

I did indeed have enough energy to make a card yesterday and as planned, it was Merry Patterns. My friend Julia and I sat at my table and had a lovely hour or two, playing with stamps and ink and paper and chatting. It really shouldn’t be this much fun!! And you get cards made so that it’s productive fun.

My sister Caro was playing around with Merry Patterns last week and one of her test pieces was a gold embossed deer in a sweater. I loved it, so that’s where I started. I embossed him in the corner on very vanilla so that there was room to add the sentiment. Technically the sentiment is a two step stamp with holly on the letters, but I didn’t want to add another colour and I felt that the deer himself was already fancy enough. I mounted this onto a real red base. I’ve got my eye on all the candles next, but I’m trying not to get too Christmassy. We still have 12 or so weeks!

Wise Men from Afar

Here’s a quick and simple Christmas card that  I made for a swap. Hence I know it’s quick because I made 20 of them. Actually I made closer to 30 but I was having issues with my stamp set, Wise Men From Afar. It would not stamp consistently – I scrubbed any residue off the stamp, used versamark first, held the stamp down for longer and sometimes, I even used a blender pen if the issue was minor enough to fix that way. My replacement set should be here tomorrow!

For the sand I used so saffron some full strength, some stamped off once and then fresh fig for the wise men. It seems a very regal colour. The star is embossed in gold. I decided to have a wide so saffron border and a skinny fresh fig one. I prefer not to have the borders all the same width, it’s a bit too matchy matchy. Im looking forward to my set arriving soon – because it’s unavailable (and my current set is too frustrating to use), of course I have a bunch of ideas for it!

I hope you enjoyed today’s project.

Year of Cheer Suite

As I mentioned on Monday, I’ve been suffering from insomnia lately (and the second card I designed in my head during one of my sleepless times has sadly disappeared from my memory!) and I was trying not to nap during the day in an attempt to sleep through the night. Yesterday my brother pointed out that since I’m off work, it doesn’t really matter when I sleep, so I should just sleep when I’m tired. Brilliant.  But the dearth of sleep has made me very sluggish and, as you’ll have noticed, rather behind. So I thought I’d share the video of one of my favorite suites. This one is Holly introducing the Year of Cheer suite – it’s absolutely beautiful. I love the wonderful metallic paper, the embellishments and the washi tape.

And don’t forget the Paper Pumpkin offer good until next Sunday:
