Foil Frenzy Specialty DSP

I needed a gift box and of course it’s a simple matter to make one. The hardest part was deciding on which of the beautiful foiled patterns to use from the Foil Frenzy Specialty DSP pack. There are three 1 sided designs in four colours with the coloured foil printed onto heavyweight kraft paper. Perfect for boxes – or anything else! I picked the lemon lime twist foil stripes and decided on a lemon lime twist base.

First I measured my contents and determined that I needed a box 5 1/2 by 6 1/4 by 1 inch. So to allow for the sides, that meant cutting a piece of lemon lime twist cardstock at 7 1/2 by 8 1/4. I then scored that at one inch all the way around, cut the tabs loose and made the box. For the lid, I cut a piece of the foil frenzy specialty paper at 1/16 inch larger (one tiny notch on the Stampin’ Up! trimmer) and then continued as before scoring 1 inch on all four sides. The slightly larger piece means that it fits snuggly onto the base. I added a little notch to make it easier to open using a 3/4 inch circle punch. This photo shows the lemon lime twist foil stripes better.

For the decoration, I closed the box with a piece of the lovely 1/2 inch finely woven ribbon. Next I heat embossed in gold part of a sentiment from Better Together onto a piece of lemon lime twist and cut it out with the layering oval dies as well as a gold foil scalloped mat. The leaves maybe puzzling you – it’s a sneak peek of a new leaf punch that will be available next Friday, 1st September. It’s great for just adding a little bit of interest.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project.

Designer Series Paper

Stampin’ Up! has many beautiful papers that they call Designer Series Paper (and we tend to shorten to DSP). Each year they bring out new ones and there are so many gorgeous papers that it’s hard to do them all justice. So here I’m sharing some notebooks which I covered in DSP but highlighting each of the new in colors. Notepads are easy to cover – just measure the front of the pad and add a teeny bit to the length (so that you don’t bend the cover when opening it), then score where you need the cover to bend and have a couple of inches to glue down onto the back. The most fun is choosing the papers and decorations and then your basic scratch pad is all beautiful.

Here I’ve used Powder Pink with Whole Lot of Lovely DSP, Berry Burst with Color Theory DSP stack and Fresh Fig with Fresh Florals DSP stack. They each have the sentiment from Crafting Forever which I love in coordinating ink stamped on whisper white and then matted in a teeny tiny  scallop in the base cardstock color. I cut these out with the layering circles framelits dies.

To finish off the new in colors, we have lemon lime twist with naturally eclectic DSP and tranquil tide with Delightful Daisy DSP. I can’t decide which is my favourite. Which is yours?

So Many Shells

After we’d been to a few appointments, my friend Julia said: “we really need journals to ensure that we remember all the information”. Of course being IT Professionals we thought about using Google so that we could all update the same document but you know what? We’re also Stampin’ Up! demonstrators and we love paper. So, yes, this isn’t as efficient, we can’t search it electronically, but it’s way more pretty and satisfying. And that is the key. Not everything has to be efficient. I had some 8 by 5 inch notepads which I’d bought to cover for downline presents and they are perfect for the task. As is the stamp set So Many Shells which has some amazing sentiments.

This is my journal which I covered in always artichoke card stock and then put on a piece of the beautifully happy flowers from the Delightful Daisy DSP. I adore this paper.

It was hard to decide on the color of the sentiment; I stamped it in always artichoke and then tried it heat embossed in gold but neither really worked for me. Until I decided to mix them up! I inked up the sentiment from So Many Shells in versamark and then always artichoke before stamping on a piece of whisper white and sprinkling on clear embossing powder. I heated it to get the glossy look. Then I took the always artichoke sentiment that I’d tried earlier and cut out the word healing leaving me with a mask. I put the mask over my clear heat embossed sentiment and stamped again in versamark. This time I sprinkled on gold embossing powder and heated it. The word “healing” is therefore double heat embossed and really raised up. I love how it emphasizes the word. I used the layering circles framelits to cut it out and to cut a scalloped always artichoke mat. Since I’ll be carrying this around, I used multipurpose glue to adhere everything so that the book is very flat – I don’t want to rip off the circles when it gets thrown into a bag.

I mentioned earlier this year that if you want a birthday card, just send me a message with your birthday and address. You can email me at lizbaileycards@gmail.com. But also, if you or someone you know needs a card just to say hello, or thinking of you, let me know that too. Because I have experienced recently how wonderful it is to receive cards and I want to pass that on.

Wood Crate Framelits Dies

Here’s a sample that we made in Amsterdam – and thanks to Eimear for it getting home safely! She was the one who suggested not making the crate until we got home which is how I have a non-battered crate to share! We made it using the new Wood Crate Framelits Dies.

The Wood Textures DSP stack is full of wood pictures making it perfect for making the crates – also for masculine cards, but we’ll get to that another day. You simply cut out two of the crate pieces and apply tear tape to the little tabs and construct the crate. Easy peasy.

We then made little 3 by 3 inch cards to fit in the crate stamping them with the accompanying set, Wood Words and using a little more of the matching DSP. It makes a nice little gift.

Love Today Planner Kit

I wanted to share the Stampin’ Up! Love Today Planner Kit video; the planner is full of awesome extra – stickers, sticky notes, pockets, photo protector pages as well as the standard things like monthly view pages, weekly pages, monthly tabs. It might seem odd to introduce a planner in June, but since no dates are printed, you can start with any year that you like.

And the pages are thick enough that you can stamp on them. Personally, I’m going to be using the Tabs for Everything stamp set – it’s got loads of little cute pictures and handy planning words. Isn’t that perfect?
