Carols of Christmas

Today I’m sharing a Christmas card made with Carols of Christmas, a bundle that is available in August, a month ahead of the official release of the holiday catalog. And since it’s available in August, that means that if you earned any Bonus Day coupons, you can apply it to this bundle. But whatever you choose to buy with your bonus coupons, don’t forget that they expire at the end of August – don’t forget to redeem them! Click on the image below to read how to do that.

This is my first card with the Carols of Christmas bundle so I started out simply by heat embossing the sentiment in gold onto a piece of real red. Next, I used the poinsettias thinlits (there are two the same) for each corner of my piece of real red. I then used some scraps of gold foil (1 9/16 inch square) to put behind the cut out pointettias. All that was left was to mount this on a real red card base and the card was done.

Soft Sayings Card Kit part two

Today I’m sharing the other half of the cards from the fabulous Soft Sayings Card kit along with tips that I learned as I made up my kit.

The overlay on this one isn’t symmetrical so, back to tip 5 – be aware when you’re placing the layer of the different looks that you can get depending on which way around that you have it. I used glue dots to anchor all the pieces under the sentiment and left the edges be free. The dimensionals under the sentiment were also useful for ensuring that the leaves and branches stay secure. By the way – if you love this cut out, the thinlet to cut the same design is included in the Eclectic Layers thinlits dies. I just got mine so you can expect some cards with this cut out soon!

I didn’t learn any tips whilst putting this one together!

Tip 6 – I used my silicone craft sheet, multipurpose glue and a sponge dauber to get glue onto the back of the sparkly flower. I like to get glue on the dauber and then rub most of it off (onto the craft sheet) and then there’s just enough to add stickiness to the sparkly flower without adding so much that I get globs of glue.

As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve changed some of the suggested sentiments – I needed more birthday cards but there are 10 different sentiments in the kit.

My tip on this one is really an emphasis on the first tip that I shared yesterday – lay out your card supplies first! When I went back to complete the second set of ten cards, I figured I knew what I was doing. Wrong! I had just glued this gorgeous flower down when I thought it looked a little different. It turns out I’d glued it to the large pink card base rather than this one which is mid-sized. Luckily I realised it early enough that I could remove it!

Soft Sayings Card Kit

The Soft Sayings Card Kit is a really awesome kit – it’s an all inclusive (almost), all you need to complete it is your choice of adhesive. And at $35 for a kit that makes 20 cards, it’s amazing value. Apart from the consumables, included in the kit are a clear block, an exclusive stamp set and an ink spot and if you wish, you can order a refill of just the consumables for an extra $21 and make another 20 cards. I’m going to share half of the cards today and a few of the tips that I discovered as I made my kit!

I had an hour or so to spare and so decided to just make one of each of the ten cards. Luckily I decided to lay out the pieces for each card to start with and that’s where I come to the first tips.

Tip 1: Lay out the pieces for each card first.

Tip 2: There are different sized branches and they are mixed on some of the cards e.g. this one. I found I’d laid out two the same and as I got to the later cards, I didn’t have the right pieces. Happy that nothing was glued!

I saw a tip on a Stampin’ Up! video to turn over your sentiment piece and then stamp the leaves on top of it so that they are in the right place. I found that left visible gaps when I popped up the sentiment as you can see on the two stamped leaves on this photo..

Tip 3: Put the sentiment piece in place on the card to figure out the placement but move the sentiment before stamping. This means there’s no gap.

Here are the cute little 3 by 3 cards in the kit:

Tip 4: Be a bit more careful measuring your washi tape! It barely notices in the one on the left.

This is one of my favourites but it too, provided me with a tip for you!

Tip 5: Look at the instructions and get your flower frame the right way. Mine is backwards. The flower in the right hand corner should be in the left hand corner. It doesn’t really matter but the card looks better the correct way – I did it right on the second go around.

You may have noticed an absence of baker’s twine on the cards – I just didn’t feel that it was needed, but that’s just me.

These are just half of the designs – I’ll post the others in the next day or so along with a few more tips.

Apologies for the lack of posting  yesterday – life (or more correctly, napping) got in the way. I’m trying to get ahead so that I don’t have gaps.

Paper Pumpkin July 2017 Alternate

After what feels like forever, I’m finally back to making a Paper Pumpkin July 2017 Alternate. Last night my team and I got together and put our paper pumpkins together and had a great time. This morning, I decided that it was time that I played with the Positively Picturesque kit a little more. Next month, I hope to make the alternate before the team get together so that they can make an alternate if they like.

This clean and simple card comes together very quickly – I did a little watercolor wash in so saffron on a piece of watercolor paper ( 2 7/8 inch square) and then used the heating tool on the first setting to dry it. Next I stamped the tulips in lemon lime twist and berry burst and added the sentiment also from the set in berry burst. I tried to use a different color for my mat than lemon lime twist, but it looked the best (or I’m addicted to it, not sure!) – I used a piece 3 inches square to just give a small border. Then I mounted this on a thick very vanilla card base – I love the thick card stock, it’s so much better for card bases.
