Moroccan Designer Series Paper

I was really pleased with yesterday’s card and, more to the point, surprised at how a print which I thought was too loud for me worked so brilliantly. So I decided to take the same kind of layout and use up another piece of my DSP mountain.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Moroccan Designer Series Paper - Bunch of Blossoms

I changed the card to a vertical card and shortened the DSP slightly – it’s just 3 1/4 inches deep today instead of yesterday’s 3 1/2 inches but it’s still 4 1/4 inches across the entire card.Today’s mat is emerald envy and I put this onto a very vanilla base. I then used one of my favourite sentiments which is from Bunch of Blossoms (so happy that’s carrying over) stamped in emerald envy onto more very vanilla cut out with the awesome Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies. It then occurred to me that not only do I have a DSP mountain, my ribbon stash is quite large too so I challenged myself to add some ribbon – the paper is too busy to add a bow, but a little touch of ribbon fit in rather well.

So here we have two cards with the same basic layout, both using designer series paper and they are quite different. Which do you prefer? More to the point, do you have any paper that you could use for this layout? If you make something based on this, I’d love to see it. Just email me at lizbaileycards@gmail.com.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Fruit Stand Designer Series Paper

I was looking at my DSP, which rightfully is probably a mountain and wondering why I don’t use it much. I certainly look at it a lot. But what good does that do anybody? I can still still look at it if I’ve made it into a card and shared it here but there’s loads that hasn’t been cut. So I hacked into another piece from the Fruit Stand Designer Series Paper.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Fruit Stand Designer Series Paper - Vertical Greetings

I had thought that this paper was a bit loud for a full layer but as a partial layer, it’s gorgeous. It’s 3.5 inches wide with a daffodil delight mat which is 1/8 inch bigger. Due to the watercolor nature of the paper, some of the colors are blended together or paler than usual so I not all of the official colors worked as a mat. The daffodil delight is perfect though. And although the watermelon wonder didn’t work as a mat, it is perfect for the greeting which comes from Vertical Greetings, a set that I’m thrilled is in the new catalog. I’m also happy that the thick whisper white which I used here as a base, must’ve been a hit since Stampin’ Up! is introducing thick very vanilla.

Color Theory Suite

I was looking at YouTube yesterday and fell over the following video. It’s an official Stampin’ Up! one showing one of the new suites in the upcoming catalog. I’ve been trying not to share too many sneak peeks since you can’t get your hands on these yet, but I couldn’t resist showing this one.

Don’t forget to check out the clearance rack as well as the retiring products section – there are plenty of good bargains there including some from the Holiday catalog in case you’re the kind of organised person who starts planning Christmas already!

Paper Pumpkin time

We’re almost out of time to sign up for this month’s paper pumpkin – the deadline is the 10th of the month. This month Stampin’ Up! has been giving clues about the kit – it’s a card kit, we’re going to love it and the clue words are “hole”, “round” and “scramble” (check out the Paper Pumpkin facebook page). I’m guessing it’s a card kit featuring golf which sounds fun and just in time for Father’s Day. I’ve been a bit distracted with retiring lists and Onstage! lately and haven’t been making up my kits and not sharing alternatives. I’ll get back to that soon working with the last couple of kits.

In case you don’t know what Paper Pumpkin is about, here are the details:

  • Each month you receive a unique, surprise kit with a project. It’s colour-coordinated and everything is pre-cut
  • Each kit includes stamps, ink, paper, accessories and instructions.
  • Each kit gives you about 30 minutes of fun
  • Your Paper Pumpkin ships around the 15th of the month.
  • You need to sign up for a kit by the 10th of the month to get that month’s kit. If you sign up on the 11th of the month, your first kit will come the next month.
  • A Paper Pumpkin subscription is just $19.95 per month (and shipping is included!) There’s no commitment, you can cancel or put your subscription on hold at any time. You can also prepay 1, 3, 6 or 12 months at a time (great gift idea) and save money with the latter 3 options.
  • Once you’re a Paper Pumpkin subscriber, you can buy previous kits as supplies last. Sometimes complete kits are available at other times, it’s just the consumables so that you can make more.

Please use the Stampin’ Rewards code to get five FREE handmade cards; the current Stampin’ Rewards code is 7UYN7HEJ (if your order is over $150, don’t use the code, you get the rewards, but you still get the free cards). Succulent Garden Designer Series Paper

The Succulent Garden Designer Series Paper, and especially this pattern, is one of the best papers in the Occasions catalog in my opinion. It’s also running out (it’s hit the low inventory marker on the status report) and on sale at $6.60 down from $11. A steal. I had a different layout in my head but apparently my hands weren’t in the know and they cut the paper differently!

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Succulent Garden Designer Series Paper - Paper Pumpkin October 2016 - Season of Gratitude

And once I had my piece of  Succulent Garden Designer Series Paper cut, it was a matter of looking for the right sentiment. It needed to be the right size and a single line. I eventually found a stamp that’s been sitting out since I couldn’t figure out where it came from – I eventually decided that it had to be from a Paper Pumpkin set and a quick look through the Paper Pumpkin pinterest boards revealed that it’s from the October 2016 Paper Pumpkin kit, Season of Gratitude. At least now I can put it away! I stamped it in mint macaron to match the DSP and used a mint macaron card base.

I hope that you’re feeling inspired to pull out some designer series paper and actually make some cards with it. It’s quite liberating cutting it up!
