Bookcase Builder

As I mentioned when I introduced my giveaway this month, I’m going to be showcasing the Bookcase Builder set. There are a couple of colleagues at work whose wives are expecting babies in May and for once, I’m trying to be prepared! Neither knows what they are having, so I need two of each type of card.

This was a fun card to make – just enjoy making your own DSP. I used only the ABC blocks image and dapper denim and randomly stamped onto a piece of very vanilla ensuring that some were off the edges of the card. Then I trimmed down my “usual” size piece of 5 1/4 by 4 inches by 1/4 inch so that I could add a skinny mat of delightful dijon before adding that to the dapper denim base. It’s not quite a traditional pale blue baby card, but unmistakenly a baby card – especially with the congratulations stamped inside and another teddy bear. The typeface of the sentiments in Bookcase Builder is especially beautiful in my opinion.

To finish off the card, I stamped the delightful dijon teddy bear onto very vanilla, cut it out with my favourite stitched shapes dies and then popped it up with dimensionals.

Paper Pumpkin January 2017 Alternate 5

With just a couple of days to go before the deadline to be on the list for the February paper pumpkin, I’m up to my Paper Pumpkin January 2017 Alternate 5. This one is the thank you card that I sent out to my January customers and it combines the January Paper Pumpkin, Adoring Arrows and the Sealed with love bundle.

Using sweet sugarplum ink, I stamped the sentiment all over my background layer, ensuring that some fell off the edges. Then I stamped off once and added a little layer of hearts onto a piece of scrap before cutting it out with the Love Notes framelits dies. I then stamped the thank you sentiment again on the middle of the note. The dies includes one to make a little envelope and I cut this one out of the Sending Love glassine sheets; it’s easy to assemble especially since the die adds score lines. I put it together with a glue dot and topped that with an enamel shape and popped it up with some dimensionals. It was fun making them and surprisingly quick too. Just use a piercing mat to ensure good coverage when using the photopolymer stamp and you’re good to go – just don’t forget some scrap to cover the mat when you’re stamping off the edge.

Love Notes Framelits Dies

The Paper Players’ themed challenge this week gave me the perfect opportunity to pull out the Love Notes Framelits Dies and matching stamp set, Sealed With Love. I’ve been eyeing the edgelit in the framelits dies set and this challenge gave me the push to actually play with it!

Here’s the banner which inspired my card:

The edgelit is super fun – it scores the hearts so that you can make them really 3 dimensional. As I was playing, I realised that I could slide a piece of card stock under part of the heart to really show them off. So I cut a piece of whisper white and put it in place whilst I was playing – it stays so well I almost forgot to glue it in when I was done! I used the Love Notes Framelits Dies to cut a few real red hearts and a few gold foil arrows but decided that more than one heart fought with the edgelit and made the card too “matchy”. So one heart only with a gold arrow on top and one of the beautifully scripted sentiments in real red to finish it off. I usually add glue to the mat rather than the card base so that I’m sure it’s in the right place, but in this case, I added snail to the right hand side of the card base next to the hearts so that it was easier to position the white layer. If you CASE this – and I hope you will – be careful not to put too wide of an insert inside the card or it will show.

Don’t you love the three dimensional edge?

Falling in Love DSP

I decided to showcase the Falling in Love DSP today in a way that doesn’t really fall into line with the “expected” use of this part of the Falling in Love suite. As I mentioned, I’m making congratulations cards for people at work who have just been promoted so this seemed like a good challenge. And since I had the Sunshine Wishes thinlits dies out for yesterday’s card, there was a good starting point!

I’m in IT which has far more males than females so it’s no surprise that I’m making 4 male cards and one female. I started with a 2 inch deep strip of the Falling in Love DSP (it’s the reverse side of one of the bokeh photos) and matted it with a piece of early espresso. The very vanilla and the early espresso look very rich with cherry cobbler which is why I wanted a large expanse of the red. To give it some interest, I ran a layer of cherry cobbler through the big shot with the lucky stars TIEF and then cut out the congrats from a piece of scrap using the Sunshine Wishes thinlits dies. To keep the richness of the look, I used a cherry cobbler base and then added a few enamel shapes also in cherry cobbler. I’m really pleased with how rich and luxurious this colour combination looks. Let me know what you think.

Tasty Treats Designer Series Paper

Today’s card features the Tasty Treats Designer Series Paper which is not what I thought I was featuring. I had two packs of DSP together in a pile because I’d been playing with them and I really love how the Succulent Garden DSP features the mint macaron and sweet sugarplum together. So I pulled out what I thought was a piece of mint macaron from the Succulent Garden DSP and decided to use the Sunshine Wishes thinlits dies to make a different kind of possible Valentine’s card using that and sweet sugarplum. Here’s my card.

I cut out the word and heart from sweet sugarplum using the Sunshine Wishes thinlits die and glued them onto my piece of DSP which was bordered with sweet sugarplum. Actually at this point I was planning on a little square card but there was something missing. I thought I’d try adding the whole thing to a normal sized card base; it wasn’t until I pulled out a mint macaron card base that I realised that I had the colour wrong and after a quick look through my hanging files found that I’d used a pool party DSP instead of mint macaron. This led to a look through the catalog to discover that I’d actually been using the Tasty Treats Designer Series Paper instead! I’ve also discovered that I like pool party with sweet sugarplum. Good to know!
