Moon Baby

A super simple card today playing with a brand new stamp set from the Occasions catalog along with the watercolor pencils, Moon Baby. It’s an adorable stamp set and it caught my eye the first time I looked through the catalog. I was extra happy to hear that two of my colleagues at work are both about to become fathers so that I have an excuse to play with it!

I re-inked my archival basic black first – I don’t think I remember to do that enough, it was really thirsty. Seeing as it’s used on a high percentage of cards, it probably should be done fairly regularly. I stamped the image and sentiment onto a piece of watercolor paper and then started laying down some colour with the pencils – daffodil delight for the moon, calypso coral for the face, a little early espresso for the hair and a mixture of calypso coral and melon mambo for the clothing. I used the blender pen to pick up the early espresso from the tip of the pencil rather than putting the pencil directly onto the paper. Then I blended all the colour, adding more where it needed it. It was a nice relaxing five minutes. Since I stamped two copies of this, I think I’ll go and have another five minutes with Moon Baby!

Then it was a simple matter of adding a piece of basic black as a mat with fast fuse – my adhesive of choice where watercolour paper is concerned – and then gluing that to a daffodil delight card base. For the final touch, I added a gold metallic star.

Paper Pumpkin February 2017

It’s that time of the month when the red Paper Pumpkin boxes are appearing in mail boxes all over the country. If you haven’t received yours yet, here’s what’s coming your way.

As usual, once mine gets here (I’m in NJ so I’m one of the last to get it I think) I’ll be creating alternative projects with the kit contents.

In case you don’t know what Paper Pumpkin is about, here are the details:

  • Each month you receive a unique, surprise kit with a project. It’s colour-coordinated and everything is pre-cut
  • Each kit includes stamps, ink, paper, accessories and instructions.
  • Each kit gives you about 30 minutes of fun
  • Your Paper Pumpkin ships around the 15th of the month.
  • You need to sign up for a kit by the 10th of the month to get that month’s kit. If you sign up on the 11th of the month, your first kit will come the next month.
  • A Paper Pumpkin subscription is just $19.95 per month (and shipping is included!) There’s no commitment, you can cancel or put your subscription on hold at any time. You can also prepay 1, 3, 6 or 12 months at a time (great gift idea) and save money with the latter 2 options.
  • Once you’re a Paper Pumpkin subscriber, you can buy previous kits as supplies last. Sometimes complete kits are available, at other times, it’s just the consumables so that you can make more.

Stylish Stems Framelits Dies

Today I’m sharing a quick clean and simple card but an effective one nonetheless. It pretty much made itself once I started playing with the Stylish Stems Framelits Dies and, as a bonus, I have a bunch of pieces ready cut out with other dies to play with too.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Stylish Stems Framelits Dies - Bunch of Blossoms

The Stylish Stems Framelits Dies contains some unusual pieces – there’s a die to cut out the flower itself but it leaves it in the card so it’s more peeking through to the next layer. I used another of the dies to cut the edges of my calypso coral flower creating the piece which I could layer. The stem and leaves together are another die and I cut it into the whisper white layer  before carefully layering the flower on top – lining up a piece of the flower to hide the top of the stem. The sentiment is from Bunch of Blossoms (I really love the mixed typefaces in these sentiments) and it’s in pear pizzazz – and stamped before I glued anything down. I then layered my whisper white panel onto a pear pizzazz card base.

I used the silicone mat to add tombow glue to the back of the flower. It’s a really easy way to add delicate die cuts. Just put a splodge of tombow onto the silicone mat and use a sponge dauber to pick up some glue. I then dab the dauber onto a clean part of the mat to take off the excess and then dab it onto the back of the die cut. When the dauber starts seeming to be a little sticky, I know that it’s time to add a little more glue. You need enough to stop the dauber sticking to the delicate die cut, but not so much that you get excess splodging  around it. Be careful not to move the die cut or you’ll likely get glue onto the front.

Beautiful You Watercoloring

Here’s a thinking about you kind of card using the Beautiful You set and just a single colour – mint macaron

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Beautiful You

I stamped the image using archival basic black ink on watercolor paper and, after giving it time to really dry, used an aquapainter and ink from the lid of my mint macaron ink pad to colour in the girl and her umbrella. Another of the awesome mixed typeface sentiments and then it was a simple matter of construction. I trimmed the watercolour paper so that I could have a basic black skinny mat and still have a 1/4 inch of the mint macaron card base showing – I need to play with different borders more, it’s fun how they change the look of the card. I used some of the mint macaron patterned paper from the Subtles DSP stack to line the envelope flap.

Colour is Amazing

Colour really is amazing; I had a card class last night and we were playing with the Hey Chick stamp set and the watercolor pencils and my friends decided to change up the colours since we were making two of the same design cards. My original chick was coloured with daffodil delight, pumpkin pie and bermuda bay but after Tara had used the calypso coral pencil on one of her cards, I decided to follow suit and change colours on my second card. This led to some hasty cutting out of new background pieces but we ended up with lots of color ways. Here I used real red, calypso coral, pumpkin pie and daffodil delight. The design is still the same as the original, but the dry embossed piece is now calypso coral. The chicken also looked great on Steph’s card with daffodil delight, pumpkin pie and pacific point with a pacific point background – I neglected to get a photo of that. But play around and change up the colours.

Here’s the original – isn’t it amazing what a change in colour will do?

We also played with Beautiful You and made two similar cards, changing sentiments and colours. We also stepped up the second why by doing a little paper piecing using the subtles DSP stack. Here are my two examples. Again, the colour really changes the mood doesn’t it – here we have sweet sugarplum and so saffron. Which do you like best?
