Candle Border Punch

Here’s a clean and simple birthday card using the new Candle Border punch. The border punches are a lot of fun to play with and perfect for a quick card.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Candle Border Punch - Window Shopping

Here I simply put a piece of very vanilla into the punch – doesn’t have to be at the edge – and punched. Then you slide your card along so that the picture shows through where you’ve already punched which tells you that you’re lined up. Then you punch again and repeat until you’ve completed the card. Easy! Next was the stamping from Window Shopping in tangerine tango and then a simple matter of constructing the card. I did cut out a stitched shape (the dies are back in stock if you missed them last time around) for later use from the middle of the gold foil before gluing it all together. The multi purpose glue slides a little on the foil so I like to use snail or fast fuse. Attaching this to a tangerine tango card base and I was done!

I’m going to need a lot of birthday cards this year; I’ve mentioned that I give them out at work and I’m part of a large IT department, but I also send them to people who come to my classes. Inspired by Shannon West’s #ImBringingBirthdaysBack movement last year, I’ve also decided to offer them to my blog readers and those who know me on facebook. So, if you’d like a birthday card around your birthday, email me your birthday and address and I’ll send you one.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Please use the hostess code to get free handmade cards; the current one is PNF6CKRH (if your order is over $150, don’t use the code, you get the rewards, but you still get the free cards from me). Celebrations Duo TIEFs

I had some fun yesterday playing with my order which has just arrived. The intention was to put together my packets for customers who shopped with me last month (thank you!) and get them in the mail. Unfortunately I’d taken part of it to work to show a friend and left them there. Since unusually I have to go to work today, I’ll be able to pick them up and can hopefully get them in the mail tomorrow. But for today, I’m sharing a card I made with one of the Celebrations Duo TIEFs, the Celebrate one.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Celebrations Duo TIEFs - Balloon Celebration

I decided that since I was making a birthday card with the word celebrate, it should have balloons to make the word pop – these are from Balloon Celebration. There’s a bit of a trick to this – if you’re using photopolymer stamps, you MUST use a stampin’ pierce mat or something that has some give. Otherwise you fill in the debossed part of the word. I know this, I did many attempts – I’m blaming the fact that work is currently hard (hence going to the office today) and I was tired. But you do have to be extra careful not to wobble or the edge of your stamp ends up in the word. I used delightful dijon, dapper denim and then for some glitz, silver embossing. I got most of the colour combination from the Global Design Project.

Window Box Thinlits Dies

The Window Box Thinlits dies are really fun. I started making a box, just to see how it all worked, but after I’d cut out 2 shapes to put the box together I got side-tracked by the extra pieces in the set that allow you to decorate the box with cutouts. And I remembered that there was a card using the top of the box cutout which I really liked. So here’s a CASE.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Window Box Thinlits Dies - Window Shopping

I started by using an aquapainter with sweet sugarplum, flirty flamingo and mint macaron just putting colour onto a piece of whisper white and then seeing how it looked. It was okay, but I decided I wanted the mint macaron mostly where the leaves were. Luckily, I hadn’t thrown out my first attempt at the cut out when I’d forgotten to use the precision plate and it hadn’t cut completely. So I used it as a template to paint mint macaron into the right areas this time using a piece of watercolor paper. Then I filled in the rest of the areas with the other two colours. Here’s how it all looked at this point.

After stamping the sentiment, from Window Shopping, I added dimensionals to the whisper white allowing enough space for the watercolor paper to fit in the middle. I applied fast fuse to the back of the watercolour paper and then holding both pieces carefully, added them to the mint macaron card base. I think that a banner across the cut out as featured in the catalog (page 43) would be good because it would allow a dimensional under it. But I really wanted to show the whole pattern. I’m definitely playing with this technique again, it’s fun and relaxing.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. I should have mentioned that the Window Box Thinlits Dies and the Window Shopping products come bundled together for a saving of 10%.

I can’t believe that we’re already about a sixth of the way through Sale-a-bration – it’s such a fun time of the year, getting freebies and extra rewards for shopping/hosting or joining the Stampin’ Up! family. It’s definitely the best time of the year to join.

See you tomorrow,

Cool Treats bundled with Frozen Treats

Now although it’s still winter and cold out there, the Cool Treats feel summery. This was a set that we all got for free at the Onstage Local that I went to back in November but this is the first time I’ve inked it up. Somehow ice creams in November and December felt a little weird, but it’s perfectly okay in January. Maybe it’s because it was 60 degrees here in New Jersey yesterday. Go figure!

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Cool Treats - Frozen Treats

The Cool Treats stamp set is a 2 step and a photopolymer set so lining them up is a breeze. I used blushing bride and rose red stamped off once for the ice cream. For the adorable cone, I used delightful dijon stamped off once and I topped it with this awesome die cut (also in delightful dijon) from Frozen Treats. The sentiment (also from Cool Treats) is full strength rose red. I felt that there was a little something missing and that’s when I noticed the strawberry die cuts. Now these are really fun. I had three of them cut out quickly and then used the sponge dauber and multipurpose glue and silicone mat trick to glue them up without any excess splurging. A rose red card base finished the card off perfectly.

Happy Birthday to my sister, Caro. Could you pop over to her blog and say hello? Thanks.

Beautiful You meets Paper Piecing

I did mention I think that I really love the Beautiful You stamp set? It lends itself to colouring with blender pens, the aquapainter, the new pencils and is also perfect for paper piecing.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Beautiful You

I stamped my image onto a piece of whisper white card stock with archival basic black – I’ve given up using any other black these days – and also onto a scrap from the Subtles DSP stack in so saffron. I thought that the little flowers were perfect for a dress. Then I used my aquapainter and the matching so saffron ink to add colour to the hat; with that successfully accomplished, I snipped out the dress in the DSP. A little bit of liquid glue and my Beautiful You lady was now attired in a gorgeous flowery dress.

I cut down the whisper white piece of card until it felt right and then cut a mat in basic black to make the image really pop. Next I took a card base of so saffron added the wonderful sentiment in black and again, once that was successfully accomplished, glued my image to the card base. I always like to be ultra safe and ensure that my stamping is perfect before adding the image or the hat for example is painted properly before adding my snipped out image. It takes but a moment to stamp or colour but longer to cut out the image so I don’t want to waste it. And indeed, if I’d glued on the image before stamping the sentiment, the extra height of the image could have impacted my stamping.

To finish off the project, I cut a piece of the same DSP to 6 by 2 1/4 inches and glued it onto the envelope flap. A quick snip with the paper snips and it matched perfectly.
