Paper Pumpkin January 2017 Alternate 3

A sweet and simple Valentine’s card for today and my Paper Pumpkin January 2017 Alternate 3, using the Adoring Arrows kit. I really enjoy getting the kit every month, never knowing what it’s going to contain. I like to challenge myself to create a number of cards with the supplies (or minimal additional ones) just to see what I can create. Here I’m using the stamp set and extra supplies.

So I’m using melon mambo and a couple of the stamps on whisper white paper. A few melon mambo enamel shapes and a melon mambo card base and I’m done. It’s one of the fastest cards that I’ve made in a while. I contemplated adding a wooden heart, one of the new Sending Love Embellishments but it was too much. Clean and simple is my favourite.

Day at the Beach watercolored

I’m sure that it’s fairly clear by now, but just in case it’s not – I love the new watercolor pencils. And one of the stamp sets that really was made for them is Day at the Beach. Okay, actually there are a lot of stamp sets but today I’m focusing on Day at the Beach. I’ve been a bit slack with my welcome cards – one of my former colleagues joined us at work last week and he hasn’t received his card yet. In my defence, working six days each week is messing with my brain. I am so grateful that I have carding as relaxation, it really helps. So here’s the card that I just made for Ed.

It’s vaguely CASEd from the Occasions catalogue. Well the idea of multiple suns on yellow was the thing that struck me. So here we have first the sentiment in delightful dijon from Baby Bear and then the lovely suns stamped in crushed curry on so saffron. Yes, there are a lot of yellows and to ensure that I included them all ( I think I have), I used the daffodil delight watercolor pencil on the edge of the sun and an aquapainter to spread the color a little. I really like the suns on the diagonal – it’s very eye pleasing. No mats seemed to work nor a different colored card base so I kept it simple with a so saffron base.

Celebrations Duo TIEF

Firstly, I’d like to thank Valentyna at The Paper Players for selecting my card as A Cut Above in last week’s challenge. It is fun playing with challenges and to be selected for an honour is the icing on the cake. You can see my card here.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Celebrations Duo TIEF - Festive TIEF

Today’s card is due to an entirely different challenge. As I mentioned there was a hair cut yesterday, and that operation is known in my family to take a really long time. Eight hours kind of time! But the hair cut is just the start – my buddy Julia and I go together and then have lunch and solve the world’s problems.  Or try to. Then there’s something we need to buy or a project at one of our houses that needs attention or even a pedicure as happened yesterday. And then we ended up at my house and Julia was looking at some of the product that I have on my table. The Celebrations Duo TIEF caught her eye and she started playing with it. Could she, she wondered, use a melon mambo watercolour pencil to add color to the debossed part? Yes you can but we didn’t like the result. The blender pen didn’t give what she was looking for. Next she wondered about a see through glitter kind of thing on top – I pulled out the dazzling diamonds glitter and a fine tip glue pen. She was happy with the piece and handed it to me as a “starter piece” and challenged me to make a card with it. Here’s a shot showing more of the sparkle.

I pulled out the Festive TIEF and ran through a whisper white layer and attached that to a thick whisper white card base. I trimmed down the celebrate piece (necessary because it was done on a piece of scrap with a hole cut out of it!), rounded the corners with the project life corner rounder and popped it up with a lot of dimensionals. It seemed a little too white so I added some melon mambo enamel dots. Julia was home by the time I did this, so I sent her a photo. She approved and I hope that you also like our collaboration card.

Day at the Beach

For the last few days, I’ve sat down at my table to relax by making a card and I’ve been too tired to come up with anything. This is especially amazing because I have a pile of unused products that I’ve been desperate to use! So between starting the watercolouring on Day of the Beach last night and a hair cut this morning, I’ve finally managed to finish a card. It’s quite apposite since after the hair cut, my friend Julia and I went for pedicures. It wasn’t planned in advance so we ended up with those paper flip flops that the shop provides and mine were bright pink. Somehow I must’ve known!

The Day at the Beach stamp set just cries out for watercoloring. I used the pencils and a blender pen on whisper white but it wasn’t giving me the look I wanted so I switched to watercolor paper and an aquapainter. Kept the pencils. If you haven’t tried these, you really must. They are wonderful to use. Here I was using daffodil delights, bermuda bay and melon mambo with a little basic black to add more color to the straps. I changed up my usual layout where the border of the main layer is even and had the watercolor paper extending the length of the card. I knew that I wanted to use a banner and this was a perfect time to use the awesome sentiment from this month’s paper pumpkin, Adoring Arrows.I used the triple banner punch to get my flag ends on the watercolor paper and also on my bermuda bay mat. I popped that up with dimensionals. And I can’t see that there’s anyone who should receive this card other than my amazing friend Julia.

Beautiful You post-it note holders

Yesterday I shared the card that I sent out to all the people who came shopping with me last month and by now they should all have received their packets which also included this post-it note holder which I decorated using the Beautiful You stamp set. It has some lovely sentiments.

This also uses the retired Fancy Frost DSP. I don’t usually share retired products, but I didn’t think it through! At the time that I made these, the DSP wasn’t retired! So I measured my post-it notes (including the depth) adding an 1/8 inch to make it easier to open and scored appropriately. If I remember correctly they are 3 inch squares so the first score line was at 3 1/8 inch and then it’s 3 inch from the opposite edge. I then used sponge daubers to bring out the pattern using elegant eggplant or bermuda bay. The cover is only glued on the back but I found that the easiest way to get them lined up was to put the edge of the post-it notes with the glue into the middle portion, get that lined up and only then push down the cardstock with the fast fuse on it. The decoration uses Beautiful You onto cardstock the same colour as the ink heat embossed in gold and then cut out with the stitched shapes framelits dies. A double bow of (now retired also) twine attached with a rolled up glue dot finished them off perfectly. And here’s the reason behind my colour choices.
