Merriest Wishes

I was playing some more with the Warmth & Cheer DSP stack and the Merriest Wishes set. They just ask to go together!

So it’s  piece of the stack with a garden green mat onto a crumb cake card base. The sentiment is from the Merriest Wishes stack which I stamped in garden green on crumb cake and cut out with the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies which I popped up on the DSP. It’s a fast and easy Christmas card that isn’t too clean and simple, it’s fun. I used the remainder of the 6″ by 6″ sheet to cover the envelope flap.

Beautiful Ride

I rarely share a card made completely with retired products, but last weekend I was away at a crop and one of my friends was busy making 149 Christmas cards. On Saturday night, she mentioned that she was leaving early the next day because it was her anniversary and oops, she didn’t have anything to make a card for her husband. So the rest of the table started grabbing stamp sets and paper stacks from bags and all sorts of supplies were perused and I said I’d make the card.

The stamp set that made sense (because apparently Rich has been called love bug) was Beautiful Ride which I stamped twice – once on the whisper white cardstock and once on the DSP (the retired Love Blossoms DSP stack) which I then cut out. Next I stamped the sentiment and the image of the couple, both also from the Beautiful Ride set. Using my aquapainter and very little water, I coloured in the tyres and the people. Once this was successful (my first attempt was not, since I added a smudge from a finger) I glued on the cut out car. In case you’re wondering at Rich’s hair colour – it’s a mixture of cajun craze and pumpkin pie which, having seen photos, is pretty accurate. The mat is crumb cake to match the car.

More Merry Mice

Here’s another card I made this time using the trio of mice in the Merry Mice set.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Merry Mice

I stamped the image on watercolor paper in archival basic black ink and then used a handful of the Stampin’ Write markers to colour it in – real red, dapper denim, daffodil delight and emerald envy. I also used an aquapainter to get a pale amount of sahara sand on the faces and feet. Just go to town and colour as you like, it’s relaxing and fun. Once I completed my colouring, I stamped one of the sentiments from the set in more black onto a real red base and then added my piece of watercolour. I decided not to crop the piece but to leave a fair amount of unused watercolour paper to give the impression that these mice are really marching along. It’s a really cute set and currently on sale this month at 25% off – the clear set is only $12.75, how can you resist?

Detailed Santa Thinlits Dies

Today I’m sharing a card made with the Detailed Santa Thinlits Dies; it’s a super easy and very effective card.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Detailed Santa Thinlits Dies - Star of Light

I used a piece of whisper white already cut for a card layer so that there was an 1/8 inch border all the way around of the real red card base. First I stamped the sentiment, just in case. I used one from Star of Light and stamped in real red. Once that hurdle was successfully negotiated, I used the Detailed Santa thinlits dies to cut out both the santa image (make sure you’re careful about placement so that the white border is even) and the lines and dot underlining the sentiment. After quickly removing the white pieces, I used the trick I saw recently to add tombow glue to the back of the whisper white. I used a silicone craft sheet and a sponge dauber (which is designated just for glue) to get some glue over the entire back but not TOO much glue. This way, as long as you don’t let your card stock move, you get no glue on the front and no oozing.

There’s an online extravaganza coming soon – 21st to 28th of November where discounts vary from 10% to 40%. You’re not going to want to miss this.

Cable Knit Dynamic TIEF

I took supplies to the dentist’s office yesterday and we had an evening party making Christmas cards. Here’s one of the easy ones that we made – an embossing folder really adds an amazing detail to a card and the new Cable Knit Dynamic TIEF (Textured impressions embossing folder) really goes one step further. It gives a really deep impression – more so if you spritz the card lightly with water first. I also used it on the envelope flap which looks beautiful.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Cable Knit Dynamic TIEF - Stitched Shapes Framelits dies - Oh, What Fun

So this uses a piece of cherry cobbler which we ran through the big shot in the embossing folder and then added this to a cherry cobbler card base. I then showed the girls heat embossing in metallics – gold here – and they loved it. There was extra heat embossing for the insides of cards and the back of envelopes. It really is a fabulous technique. There would be questions – “how long do I heat it” and I’d respond that they’d know when they were done. Then there’d be the squeals of delight as the powder melted and the beautiful shiny metal showed up. It was really a fun evening.

After using the Oh, What Fun set for the sentiment, we cut out the oval using the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies and that produced more oohs and aahs! We glued that to a piece of gold foil and then popped it up with dimensionals. Popping things up was another popular thing to do on a card.

It really was a great evening – if you’d like to do something similar and you’re somewhat near to Randolph, NJ, get in touch and we can organise something for you.
