Cupcake Cutouts Framelits Dies

Well it was the House IT Desk (aka my brother) to the rescue. He got me a new card reader and I’m back in business. I decided to celebrate by finally entering another Pootles’ Colour Challenge; recently I’ve been leaving it too late in the week because I know that there’s more time and then suddenly I’ve missed the deadline! Also I wanted to make a card using the cupcake cutouts framelits dies to show why you need them if you don’t already have them. So I banned myself from using the stamp set and just used the dies. Sam’s colours for this week were rich razzleberry, sweet sugarplum, blushing bride and crumb cake. I usually forget about crumb cake so this was a great challenge for me.

I first cut out a number of the squiggles using the three pinks and decided that they looked very celebratory and should be bursting out joyfully. So then it was a matter of finding the right sentiment that wouldn’t take up too much space so that the squiggles could shine. I found my greeting in the Cottage Greetings set – a really happy one and stamped it in rich razzleberry on crumb cake. I cut it and the rich razzleberry mat using the layering squares framelits dies and then glued on my squiggles ensuring that they continued off the crumb cake cardbase and came together close enough so that my square would cover the ends. To continue the feeling of celebration, I added some enamel shapes in sweet sugarplum and rich razzleberry. The square is popped up on dimensionals so that the ends of the squiggles don’t create a lumpy look. I’ve now got lots of little pieces of cardstock that came out from the loops of the squiggles – I’m contemplating a shaker card with them! The cupcake cutouts framelits dies are a must have in my opinion – very versatile.

See you tomorrow,

week-2

I’ve made a number of cards with the cupcake cutouts framelits dies – here’s a reminder of some of them and you’ll note that half of them just use the dies:

Amazingly, so far I’ve only used the fabulous foil designer acetate once, but I can see that there will be a lot more use when I’m making Christmas cards:

softly falling

Softly Falling for CAS C&S

I’m a little late today due to a power cut at the absolute worst time – so photography, blogging and making food for my day are now compressed into about 15 minutes in total. Eek. First things first – photography and blogging, I can (gulp) skip the nutrition or at least cut it down! It’s Thursday which means a new challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches and it’s Karen’s first sketch of the month. Of course since I’m late, my computer has decided to stop reading my SD cards. I was about to use my iPhone but my brother’s computer can read the card. Weird! Anyway, here’s this week’s card:

softly falling

And here’s the sketch which inspired it

I dry embossed a piece of so saffron with the softly falling TIEF and then used one of the old oval framelits to draw a curve on the back which I cut out with my paper snips. Then I heat embossed the sentiment from Endless Birthday Wishes in gold onto a so saffron cardbase and constructed the card. A few of the gold enamel shapes finished the celebratory card.

Blooms and Bliss DSP

Happy Wednesday – my days are all confused after the day off for Labor Day on Monday! Here’s a quick card that is easy to replicate and uses such a minimal amount of DSP that you could get 144 cards out of a single DSP pack. In this case, I’m using the Blooms and Bliss DSP – one of my favourite packs of DSP ever.

Blooms and Bliss DSP and endless birthday wishes

I started by using a 2 inch by 5.5 inch strip and then decided it was too wide and hacked off a bit – about a quarter of an inch. I’d cut my strip of island indigo to be 1/8 inch wider so I just put the DSP with the cardstock, got the edges the same and sliced away. This meant no measuring and only one cut and I still had my 1/16 inch border at the edges. Next I stamped the greeting which is from Endless Birthday Wishes in island indigo onto the thick white cardstock before constructing the rest of the card.

If I’d actually designed this card to use 1 3/4 inch of DSP and cut it that way to start with, I’d end up with 144 cards like this one and then I could make another 24 where the strip was just 1.5 inches wide which would work well too although would probably need a wider cardstock border. So there you go – 168 cards from one pack of DSP!

Don’t forget that it’s the last day of the Special Deals that I’ve been mentioning this week. Tomorrow we get a new set.

See you tomorrow,

Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate 5

I was sitting at my desk wondering what to make next when I looked at the Paper Pumpkin box sitting next to me and decided to take another look in the box. So here’s my Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate 5. The DSP is actually meant to be a card base but I can’t see “wasting” DSP as the back of a card so I cut it in half and used it on the front.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate 5 - Bold Botanicals - Vertical Greetings

The sentiment is from Vertical Greetings and stamped in island indigo and then I wrapped a piece of mint macaron ribbon around the DSP. The ribbon is from the Holiday catalog – it’s part of the the ribbon 3/8″ trio pack which also includes rich razzleberry and delightful dijon. I then matted my DSP with a piece of whisper white before adding it to my island indigo card base. I made a bow and added that with a glue dot – it was waving around so I used my paper piercing tool to add another glue dot under the ribbon too. I debated adding enamel dots but with the ribbon, it was just too much!

See you tomorrow,
