Petals and Paisleys Specialty DSP

One of the new papers in the upcoming holiday catalog is the Petals and Paisleys Specialty DSP and I wanted to really make a feature of it with this card.

Stampin' Up! Petals and Paisleys Specialty DSP and Watercolor Wishes

I cut a piece of the DSP to 5 1/8″ by 3 7/8″ and mounted it on a piece of very vanilla that is 5 1/4″ by 4″ and I then glued this to a night of navy card base. I then used rich razzleberry to stamp the sentiment from Watercolor Wishes onto a scrap of very vanilla. Next up were my new layering ovals framelits which I used to cut out the sentiment and also to provide a frame of night of navy. This I popped up with stampin’ dimensionals, leaving lots of the Petals and Paisleys Specialty DSP showing as was my original plan. At this point I felt as if something was missing so I added a few of the night of navy enamel shapes to a few of the flowers.

Isn’t this DSP beautiful? I think this is almost my favourite paper in this pack – there’s a gorgeous night of navy and copper one which wins out. I’m going to play with that next even though I can feel reluctance to cut into it! I know we all do this, but saving the favourite papers and never using them just doesn’t make sense!

Merry Tags Framelits Dies

For today’s CAS Colours & Sketches challenge, I’m using the Merry Tags Framelits Dies. Yes, another Christmas card. I’ll work on some non-holiday ones soon!

Stampin' Up! Pine Bough TIEF and Merry tags

Here’s the sketch which inspired my card:

I decided that in order to keep my card CAS, I’d use embossing to add the second background whilst keeping the colour the same  I chose whisper white and the pine bough TIEF.  Once I had that, I added a sentiment from Star of Light in emerald envy before adhering the mat to the whisper white extra thick card base. This left the oval type element.

A couple of days ago, I’d used the  Merry Tags Framelits Dies and created a tag but ended up with some leftovers. I figured that they could be useful and glued them to a piece of whisper white before cutting it out with one of the new ovals framelits. I popped it up with dimensionals to finish the card.

Pine Bough TIEF

Here’s a very clean and simple Christmas card using a few new products – I just can’t help myself! I started by dry embossing a piece of emerald envy with the Pine Bough TIEF and then used the chalk marker to highlight the embossed pieces.

This led me to deciding to emboss the sentiment in white to match the chalk marker – the sentiment is from the really versatile Tin of Tags set and it fits perfectly in the bottom corner left by the dry embossing! Often it really is all about the shape of the space for the sentiment. Once I’d added the sentiment, I attached the piece of emerald envy to an emerald envy base. I think that there’s scope for a red base with a red ribbon, and maybe more cut out pine twigs, but that’s for another day.

Today is a fun day – at noon EST, I can sign up to go the Onstage Local event in Secaucus which is only about a 45 minute drive from me. It’s a day long Stampin’ Up! party just for demonstrators and this will be the first that I’ve attended. I’m very excited!

Paper Pumpkin August Alternate 2

So I took a break from cleaning – actually it’s improving pretty quickly now that we have most of the fabrics washed – and made a card. I decided to work on my Paper Pumpkin August Alternate 2 because it’s fun to make completely different cards from the kit.

I took a circular piece from the kit and stamped thanks in it (from this month’s kit) in cajun craze and then added a circle of mint macaron. This was cut using the old circles collections – I assume that a new layering circles would work but I don’t have that one yet. I also added a strip of cajun craze from the kit to my very vanilla mat before putting that on a cajun craze card base and then  using dimensionals for my sentiment. It’s a different look from the kit, more CAS definitely – let me know what you think…

Totally Trees

Thanks for bearing with me through a rather disastrous weekend. As I said I’m happy that the house will end up a lot cleaner but we have a deadline – our father arrives on Friday. So that should keep the momentum going! But, to the real reason that you visited – a card. Today’s is using Totally Trees which is a set I can guarantee I’m going to use a great deal!

Stampin' Up! Totally Trees

So easy to make beautiful CAS cards with this set. I first stamped the solid shape in crushed curry and gave it a reasonable time to really dry. Next I used the embossing buddy and the new, totally beautiful, copper embossing powder. You need this. Let’s just say that I’m going to be ordering another pot in my next order! I cut down the piece of very vanilla until it looked right and then cut a piece of crushed curry 1/8 inch bigger. Before gluing it to my card, I heat embossed the thanks from Watercolor Wishes also in copper.

And there you have it – quick and simple and rather elegant.

Time to go and clean something before I leave for work!
