Paper Pumpkin June 2016 – Banner Surprise

Stampin’ Up! always creates a video for each of the Paper Pumpkin kits and this month’s Banner Surprise is no different. Here they show the kit put together as designed.

Here are the two alternate ideas that I’ve created so far this month

Stampin' Up! Paper Pumpkin June 2016 alternate - Banner Surprise and Sunshine Wishes and Crazy about you  Stampin' Up! Paper Pumpkin June 2016 alternate - Banner Surprise

and here are some alternatives from Stampin’ Up!

I’ve been looking at the washi tape that came with the kit and contemplating another use, so I should be sharing that soon.

Just in case you don’t get Paper Pumpkin yet or don’t even know what it is, here are the details

  • Each month you receive a unique, surprise kit with a project. It’s colour-coordinated and everything is pre-cut
  • Each kit includes stamps, ink, paper, accessories and instructions.
  • Each kit gives you about 30 minutes of fun
  • Your Paper Pumpkin ships around the 15th of the month.
  • You need to sign up for a kit by the 10th of the month to get that month’s kit. If you sign up on the 11th of the month, your first kit will come the next month.
  • A Paper Pumpkin subscription is just $19.95 per month (and shipping is included!) There’s no commitment, you can cancel or put your subscription on hold at any time. You can also prepay 1, 3, 6 or 12 months at a time (great gift idea) and save money with the latter 2 options.
  • Just click on the Paper Pumpkin button on the left hand side to join up.
  • Once you’re a Paper Pumpkin subscriber, you can buy previous kits as supplies last.

And don’t forget the current promotions that are running through June – there’s just under a week to take advantage of these.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Flourish for CAS Colours & Sketches

Well it’s Thursday again which means it’s time for another challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches. This week it’s a sketch challenge.

Stampin' Up! Flourish Thinlits dies and All About Everything

Here’s the sketch which inspired my card

I really struggled with this one. I’ve been thinking about it for most of the month and I always intend to make my DT card by the Sunday before it’s due. Well, this one was made last night and once I had a hard deadline, the sketch was much easier. I decided to use texture so that I could keep my card nice and clean but using very vanilla for two layers. I’ve used a retired folder, Spring Flowers,  because I wanted flowers in the background since the Flourish thinlits dies were going to be my focal point. Then I layered on a piece of very vanilla on which I’d stamped my greeting which comes from the bonus set that was in April’s Paper Pumpkin. I had planned to use the big die cut from the Flourish die cuts but it took up most of the card front so I took a look at the rest of the set and found these two which work perfectly as the two little banners in the sketch. I then glued everything to the matching Sweet Sugarplum card base. I didn’t immediately fall for this colour until I saw it in person but now it’s clear that I’ll be using it frequently. It looks great with very vanilla but I need to find some other combinations.

I hope that you pop over to the challenge blog to take a look at the cards made by the rest of the Design Team and that you’ll take the challenge this week. You don’t need a blog to enter, you can add the card to any number of places – facebook, public galleries etc – and link to it. I hope to see you in the gallery.

See you tomorrow,

Liz

Blooms and Bliss DSP

Have you seen the Blooms and Bliss DSP? It’s gorgeous. There are combinations of purples in it, sweet sugarplum and rich razzleberry, but also teals, island indigo and mint macaron. I already made a card with the purples, today it’s time for the teals. I work at GAF and one thing that I love is that the IT and Finance departments get together monthly to celebrate the birthdays that occurred during the month. However, they only celebrate the employees’ birthdays. I have 6 people reporting to me and 5 of them are contractors. So I decided to make cards for all of my team, contractors or employees. This Sunday is Dave’s birthday and apparently he doesn’t like to make a fuss about his birthday. Hence, I’ve made a card that’s almost camouflaged!!

Stampin' Up! Blooms and Bliss DSP and Hello You thinlits

I love this DSP, it’s apparently mint macaron, island indigo and whisper white although I found that very vanilla went very well with it. I tried all of the colours for the die cut and finally decided on mint macaron. The Happy comes from the Hello You thinlits dies and I glued it to the DSP with my 2 way glue pen. I then attached the DSP to a card base of island indigo. And that’s all this Blooms and Bliss DSP camo card needs. I hope Dave likes it. At least I expect he’ll like the biscotti that I’m planning to bake, he loves those.

Don’t forget that this month is a great time to join Stampin’ Up! – and there’s no downside to it. If you join up this month and get $125 of product plus 2 free stamp sets for a mere $99 with free shipping and never buy another thing, it’s okay. If you want to keep buying product and enjoying a 20% discount, that’s even better. If you spend or sell $300 per quarter (not including your starting partial quarter) you stay active and keep getting your discount which can grow to 25%. What’s to lose? If you have any questions let me know, but your best bet is to just sign up!

Sunshine Wishes Thinlits Dies

As you know my first order from the catalog arrived about 10 days ago and I’m having loads of fun working my way through the different things. Today I’m playing with the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits Dies which have so much potential. I decided to do a simple card showcasing them even though it’s not Valentine’s Day, but you could use this card for an anniversary or just because.

Stampin' Up! Sunshine Wishes Thinlits Dies

I cut out the image and the word, which are both from the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits Dies set, in real red and used the 2 way glue pen to adhere them to the panel of whisper white. I put that panel onto a mat of real red giving a skinny frame before putting that onto my favourite thick whisper white card stock. Don’t forget to score the thick whisper white before folding – it gives a much cleaner fold.

The card is sitting on the envelope – the photo doesn’t really show the pattern, it only shows that it’s bumpy! I embossed the envelope flap with the happy hearts embossing folder which I thought matched really well with the die cut heart. I love that the die cut is actually just a single cut – it looks as if I’ve layered 3 hearts in a very artistic way, but actually, Stampin’ Up! did all that artistry for me, and it’s a single piece! Isn’t it brilliant?

Have a great Tuesday – I have a friend coming for dinner as she does a couple of times a month after volunteering at the food pantry. We help by cooking dinner. I think I promised a strawberry shortcake to both her and my brother. I guess that means some carding time whilst it’s cooking!

See you tomorrow,

Paper Pumpkin June 2016 Alternate 2

Well good morning. Here’s my Paper Pumpkin June 2016 alternate 2. I noticed, when I opened my kit that this was an unusual situation. Well, actually it wasn’t the first time I opened it, since it arrived about 10 minutes before I was due to go to a party (oops) but later on I saw that there weren’t actually enough supplies to make the cards as shown. The video shows 6 cards and implies that you can make 6 banners saying HAPPY. Well, with only two sheets of gold letters, you can only make 2 HAPPY banners. So, what else to do?

I looked for some twine to use instead of the white supplied but I didn’t have a colour that I really liked. So I stuck with the kits colours and pulled out the mint macaron sheer linen ribbon – it’s an awesome ribbon to play with. I simply pushed it through the hole in the spine of the card and made a bow. It came out a little lopsided and that’s when I realised how perfect it was to balance my sentiment. Sometimes you just get lucky!

I used one of the circles from the kit – or you could stamp and punch one out using a 1 3/4 inch circle punch – and stamped in mint macaron. I put the HAPPY and DAY together on one block figuring that they would line up perfectly if I pushed them together and they do. Easy. I punched out a 2 inch circle of tip top taupe and popped that up with dimensionals.

Here’s the official video on this kit

So what alternatives are there for HAPPY on the banner? ENJOY would work – so two HAPPYs and two ENJOYs would work.

If you don’t have the mint macaron sheer linen ribbon, why don’t you?! I’ll be offering another product share in a week or so, but you can email me now to secure a place at lizbaileycards@gmail.com. The details will be the same as the first one – you can read about it here. If you’re not familiar, the advantage of a product share is that you can get a taste of a lot of product at a fraction of the price.

I hope you have a great Monday, see you tomorrow,

Liz
