Hello You thinlits dies

Firstly I’d like to thank the team at CAS Colours & Sketches for selecting my card as one of their weekly winners. I’m also delighted to announce that from next year, I’m joining the Design Team at CAS Colours & Sketches – it’s definitely an honour to be invited. I’m really happy that my sister has joined the team too. Her upline (and my surrogate upline) Eimear has also been invited. How awesome is that?

I’m switching gears a little today and have a birthday card to share. I put all of my Christmas cards together and there are far more than I expected so I took a break. And yes, I might possibly be playing with the new goodies from the upcoming catalogue!

Stampin' Up! Hello You thinlits and Endless Birthday wishes

This card all started with the It’s My Party designer washi tape (available from January 5), which I put towards the bottom of a piece of whisper white card. I originally tried two different designs of washi but after I looked at it and shook my head, I looked up to find my brother’s expression definitely very negative. So one piece of tape it is. I cut out the happy, from the Hello You Thinlits dies in melon mambo to match the tape and decided on old olive as a contrasting colour. The birthday comes from Endless Birthday Wishes. After stamping that, I glued on the happy with the fine tip glue pen – I really like this pen for the words although you have to move quite quickly because the glue sets rapidly. As you can see, there’s a slim mat of old olive and that’s on a melon mambo card stock base. A very CAS birthday card.

Birthday Bouquet DSP

Today I’ve created a card for the Global Design Project’s challenge this week as well as playing with some of the new things that the nice UPS person delivered last week.

Stampin' Up! Birthday Bouquet and Endless Wishes

Here’s the banner which inspired my card:

I absolutely love the new DSP in the upcoming Occasions catalogue; this is the Birthday Bouquet DSP and I adore the pool party and mint macaron balloons together so it had to be the first piece that I used from this collection. I didn’t want to hide much of the paper at all and so went looking for a small sentiment. This is from the Endless Birthday Wishes set and I stamped it in mint macaron. Then it was a simple matter of cutting it out with the smallest ovals collection framelits (the magnetic platform is so handy to keep everything in place) and cutting out a mat of mint macaron using the next largest oval. I popped the ovals up with stampin’ dimensionals, at first just because I thought the extra dimension was a plus to the card but then my eye fell upon the new bow paper clips embellishments (another sneak peek). Now the extra space made all sorts of sense because I could add a bow. Perfect for a birthday celebration.

If you’d like to be able to get sneak peeks too, just click on the join my team tab over there on the left and join me in the fun.

Peaceful Pines

I had a couple of challenges noted down but when I came to make cards for them, amazingly, I combined them. I was planning to make a card for the CAS Colours & Sketches challenge which is to take any sketch challenge this year and make it Christmassy when I realized that the Pals colours this week were perfect for my card.

Stampin' Up! Peaceful Pines and Seasonal Frame Thinlits dies

Here’s the sketch that I used (#119) and the colours from the Pals Paper Arts challenge:

12-10 PPA279

The sun was shining so I took advantage to try to really show the gold foil off well. The word comes from the Seasonal Frame Thinlits dies which I cut out using the new precision base plate which really helps to get the word cut more cleanly and without little raised spots from the holes in the die. I stamped the present from the Peaceful Pines set in both cherry cobbler and mossy meadow as my three elements from the sketch. I did try every word die that I have over the presents to see which flowed the best – this time, I just held the dies over the card rather than cutting out every one! A mat of black set this panel off nicely before mounting on a cherry cobbler card base.

See you tomorrow,

Merry Moments DSP

Here’s another card that Julia and I will probably be making soon in bulk. It’s not quite a simple as the ones earlier in the week, but it’s close and could be made simpler.

Stampin' Up! Merry Moments DSP and Mistletoe and Holly

This paper is the Merry Moments Designer Series Paper, or DSP as even my brother calls it! I’ve put a slim mat of mossy meadow behind it before mounting that onto an old olive card base. The greeting comes from last month’s Paper Pumpkin (this month’s has already shipped – I’m excited!), Mistletoe and Holly which I stamped in mossy meadow. I even made the white banner long enough for the snowflake element the first time – I would expect that I’d only think about the snowflake afterwards! But something wasn’t quite right and I left the card overnight to simmer. In the morning, I realized that the wooden snowflake wasn’t quite right and so I coated it with versamark and then the heat and stick powder. After heating that, I sprinkled gold glitter over the snowflake. That was much better. I did things slightly out of order – I was apparently so happy with the snowflake that I used a glue dot to fix it to the white banner. Only then did I glue on the mossy meadow mat and then use stampin’ dimensionals to pop it up! It would have been much easier in a more sensible order, but it worked. I purposely had the banner off the edge of the DSP, it looked (surprisingly for me) a little bit too ordered if it lined up precisely.

Here are all the supplies I used for this card – just click to add them to my online store and craft away!

See you tomorrow,

Flowering Fields, a sneak peek

As I mentioned yesterday, my Stampin’ Up! order came on Wednesday but I was too busy to play with it. I had a card class last night but even though it finished after ten, I still wanted to play (and I’m happy that I have another 9 Christmas cards made due to the class). I pulled out a stamp set at random because it was so hard to choose and Flowering Fields came to hand. This is a Sale-a-bration set which means that it’s one of the items that you can choose for free after spending $50 before shipping and handling from January 5 to March 31. How did I get it already? I’m a demonstrator and we get to see the new stuff a month early – you can too, just go to the join my team tab and click on the join now button!

Stampin' Up! Flowering Fields

This card features last year’s in colours which I’m panicking about. They will be retired next June and I love them so I’m using them a lot and dreading their retirement. I stamped the flower in mossy meadow five times across the very vanilla cardstock and then using a blender pen added some hello honey and blackberry bliss to the flowers. I’m sure that the flowers aren’t “supposed” to be these colours but it’s my card, right? They can be any colour that us cardmakers like! I matted the very vanilla on mossy meadow and then put that on a blackberry bliss card base. Interestingly, to me at least, the card didn’t want a sentiment. I tried adding one at the bottom but all that did was make the space at the top look too big. Design is a fascinating subject and I’m sure would be interesting to read about but I just go with what feels right to me. As you should.

The envelope is lined using the envelope liner framelits and the retired backgrounds DSP to create coordinating stationary.

I couldn’t add the stamp set to the scrolling store since it’s not generally available yet.

See you tomorrow,
