December Paper Pumpkin

This is a record – I received this month’s Paper Pumpkin, One Great Year, on Friday when I got home from work. Although I had plenty of things that I could be doing on Saturday, I put together the kit. This month it’s a calendar ready for next year. I really love the colours that have been used for this kit and in fact, the whole project which I plan to place on my desk at work.

There are four styles of pages included – the other three are demonstrated by the next three months

and the different styles come in three different colours

and finally

I followed the instructions pretty much to the letter – I swapped the colour of the background on a couple of months (obviously a total irrelevance) but I left off the twine which was supposed to be glued to the back of some of the calendar pieces and and artistically spread around. I find that it tends to look a mess rather than artistic so I don’t do that!

I didn’t add any supplies to the kit, the adhesive dots and dimensionals were all included. So there’s not much to put in the supply list other than prepaid Paper Pumpkin kits. If you go for the 6 month option, you save a dollar per kit, double if you select the year. One of the big benefits of being a Paper Pumpkin subscriber (apart from the fun of getting a mystery kit delivered each month) is that you can buy any of the past kits and refills which are being offered.

See you tomorrow,

Oh what Fun

A couple of my friends came over to dinner this week and to make some tags. I had the Oh What Fun tag project kit all ready but because Nicole hasn’t stamped ever before, I decided to add a couple of extra tags to show her some of the fun things that we can do with ink and paper.

We did them pretty much to the instructions although we used mint macaron ink for all the green rather than garden green for some. Apparently I was having too much fun to read the instructions! And then after we were finished we decided to upgrade the thin bakers twine to metallic cording trim or real red cotton ribbon or even metallic gold thread since it matched the bow so well. On the back we stamped the to and from which is also in the set that accompanies this tag set (and the kit is on sale at the moment). Sometimes I confess, it was difficult because we’d already finished the tag with bows or dimensionals before stamping. Definitely challenging.

Once we’d each completed the 10 tags in the kit, it was time to move on to the extras. First we started with the bow builder punch and the merry moments paper and numerous glue dots. My sister designed this tag when she was here last and I know that Julia likes this punch. Then we took the precut 2 inch strip of cherry cobbler and made the top pretty (and made a hole for the twine) with the scalloped tag topper punch. Then it was time to impress Nicole with the heat embossing – it’s a shame that it’s in white since the metallics really pop but she was wowed anyway.

The last tag was using my favourite sleigh ride edgelits dies which I cut out of a real red circle the same size as the base of the tag. This way the curves match up. The textured whisper white piece is the next size down in the circles collection and we then dry embossed it with the softly falling textured embossing folder. This wowed Nicole also. It’s really fun showing people what you can do with paper and ink and tools.

December Paper Pumpkin

Here’s the new video from Stampin’ Up! showing the Paper Pumpkin for this month; a quick look at the shipping information shows that mine should arrive today! My sister and brother-in-law are arriving tonight – I’m going to the airport whilst Martin and our father cook the welcoming (and requested) steak dinner – so I doubt I’ll get to play with it today, although my sister is a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator so she’d probably understand…

How great is this? I’m definitely putting this calendar on my desk at work, I imagine I’ll get many questions about it!

If you didn’t sign up to get this box of fun, you can sign up today and hope that this kit becomes available for purchase by subscribers. But at least you wouldn’t be missing next month’s box.

In case you’re new to Paper Pumpkin and aren’t entirely sure of the details, here’s what the monthly kit in a box subscription is all about:

  • Each month you receive a unique, surprise kit with a project. It’s colour-coordinated and everything is cut for you
  • Each kit includes stamps, ink, paper, and accessories – everything you need except adhesive which you need sometimes.
  • Each kit gives you about a 30 minute creativity escape.
  • Your Paper Pumpkin ships around the 15th of the month.
  • You need to sign up for a kit by the 10th of the month to get that month’s kit. If you sign up on the 11th of the month, your first kit will come the next month.
  • A Paper Pumpkin membership is $19.95 per month (and shipping is included!) There’s no commitment, you can cancel your monthly Paper Pumpkin at anytime. You can also skip a month if you want.
  • Just click on the Paper Pumpkin button on the left to sign up.
  • The fun of it is that you never know what you’re going to get, but there’s always a stamp set. Once you’re an active subscriber you can also buy old kits and refills where available.

You can also buy a prepaid subscription for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months (the last two save money) for yourself or for that hard to buy for person. A 6 month subscription is only $113.70 (saving a dollar a month) but if you added a few things and pushed it to $150, you’d get 10% of your total to spend again in Stampin’ Rewards so that makes the subscription even more attractive!

See you tomorrow,

Botanical Builder

Here’s yet another peek at one of the great new products coming soon – the botanical builder framelits dies. It’s perfect for a quick birthday card although I hadn’t completely decided which of the smaller flowers I was going to use so I cut them all out of calypso coral so that I could play with them. Now I have a little pile of  flowers to use. The precision base plate really helped with the intricate shapes as did the new big shot brush which helped pop out the shapes as well as clean up some of the wispy pieces of card. The so saffron flower is cut with just one die and glued onto my very vanilla card with a glue dot – as is the calypso coral flower inner or maybe that should be stamens?

The sentiment is from the Birthday Blossoms set in the annual catalogue (finally, something that you can get now!) and is stamped in calypso coral. I used the same colour as the mat and then glued this to the so saffron card base. Today’s card is finished off by lining the envelope using the envelope liners framelits and a very vanilla envelope.

Here are all the supplies that I used to make the card – even the dies that you can’t purchase until Jaunary 5th unless you become a demonstrator. And why wouldn’t you?! There’s no downside to it that I can see – unless it’s that you lose control of your kitchen table since it gets covered in all sorts of crafting stuff!

See you tomorrow,

Rose Garden Thinlits dies

Here’s a new product that will be in the upcoming Occasions catalogue which I am certain will be really popular. I went clean and simple with it today (no surprise there, right?) to produce an elegant birthday card. The product is rose garden thinlits dies – I’m looking forward to using it as a stencil too.

Gorgeous right? But in case your heart sinks at the thought of pushing out all the little pieces of card stock, let me tell you about a new tool that debuts in the new catalogue – the big shot die brush. You just roll the brush over the back of the die and the pieces are pushed out along with a lot of the wispy pieces of card onto a foam pad. I stamped the sentiment in real red on very vanilla card stock and then used the fine tip glue pen to attach the real red die cut. I then mounted this on a real red card base. I finished off the card with an envelope liner in real red inside a very vanilla envelope. I forgot to add the new brights designer paper stack to my last order so I’m still using the retired backgrounds DSP in brights.

The upcoming Occasions catalogue has a lot of birthday products in it, hence my recent spate of birthday cards. And I still have more product in my Stampin’ Up! box that I haven’t played with yet. Although I have added the new products to my online store, you won’t be able to add them to your order until January 5th.

See you tomorrow,
