Acorny Thank You PPA275

I think that this is a first – I don’t believe that I’ve ever used two different DSPs on a card before. I struggle to use one, to be honest. But I’ve recently realized that the way to use the things that I find hard is to start the card with them rather than hoping that they will somehow fall into place on the card. I recently used an enamel dot. Only one, it is true, but it’s the first time I’ve put a dot on a card and I don’t even own any candy dots.

This card is inspired by the current challenge at Pals Paper Arts.

I’ve been playing with the Acorny Thank You set a bit lately and these colours seemed as if they’d be fun with it. But this time, I decided to use some DSP – this is the Sweet Li’l Things DSP and I intended on having a band of the tangelo twist DSP but somehow it ended up punched out with the acorn punch instead. And then the hello honey paper seemed to partner so well. I glued the tops onto the acorns and played with them across the page trying to find the look that I wanted. I ended up with the perfect place for the sentiment – it’s from the Acorny Thank You set – and tried to glue everything down without messing up the layout. I had another acorn punched out and I used that to mark where each acorn was supposed to go whilst I added glue to the back. I’ve put the acorns onto very vanilla card stock because the DSP has very vanilla in it – I’m so glad that more of the DSPs are very vanilla since I tend to choose that more than whisper white. I’ve made a skinny mat of tangelo twist before mounting this onto a blackberry bliss cardstock. The envelope is lined with some retired backgrounds DSP and using the envelope liners framelits.

I can’t believe that we’re only 7 months away from these colours retiring, they are so gorgeous, it’s going to be hard to see them go. I think I may be concentrating on them for a while – in between my Christmas cards.

See you tomorrow,

Christmas Greetings Thinlits and washi

One of the things in the goody bag last weekend was washi tape – winter wonderland designer washi tape to be specific. In fact, I think that every goody bag that I’ve had at the crop weekends so far contain some and I’ve never used it. So I was determined to use it on a card.

I decided to use it as an accent to my red foil merry which I cut out with the Christmas Greetings thinlits dies. I wrapped the washi around a piece of very vanilla and found that it’s REALLY forgiving. You can remove it and move it and stick it down countless times. I tried adding a third strip of the third roll of washi but it was going a bit far and I reverted to the two strips. The merry is sitting on the top strip and I used the fine tip glue pen to adhere it. Also easy. The piece of washi taped wrapped very vanilla is mounted on a card base of real red. Since I still haven’t ordered the new brights DSP stack, I’m using up the retired background for the envelope liner. It’s a good use of retired DSP in my opinion. And goodness knows, I have a lot of it!

Let me know how you like my first use of washi. I also found that it’s useful to seal up packets of mint m&ms if for some reason you didn’t eat them all.

See you tomorrow,

Christmas Greetings Thinlits

I’ve posted before regarding how much I love the words thinlits and the Christmas Greetings thinlits is one of my favourite. So when Elaine, my fun secret pal, snuck a packet of stamped images onto my desk during the weekend’s crop, I challenged myself to use at least one of them and the merry was the perfect addition.

I finished this off by lining the envelope with the retired backgrounds DSP cut out with the big shot and the envelope liners framelits.

Flurry of Wishes

As I’ve mentioned a lot lately, last weekend I went to a crop with my friend Julia and my sister. One of the fun items there is that you get a goody bag filled with products from Stampin’ Up!. There are always some embellishments – which you may notice that I rarely use. I feel that they may look okay on a card but that they don’t actually add anything to a clean and simple card. But when my goody bag contained winter wonderland embelishments, I decided to try to build a card around it. I caused hilarity after declaring this when five minutes later, I said that perhaps I’d put the embellishment back in the box. Thus encouraged, I persevered and I think this card is better for the embellishment. It took a fair amount of encouragement from Caro, Jill, Jess and Barb, so thanks for that.

Here’s a close up of the embellishments:

I started the card by embossing the sentiment in silver (don’t forget the embossing buddy); this is from the Stampin’ Up! Flurry of wishes stamp set. It’s a photopolymer set so it’s ultra easy for place everything where you want it. Definitely my favourite type of stamp although I do love the stamp-a-ma-jig.  After heat embossing the silver powder, I stamped a number of the snowflakes and heat embossed them in silver too. Then came the tricky part – I’d originally decided to have the ornament next to the sentiment, then I wondered perhaps if the card was better without it at all. After deliberation and other people’s opinions, I finally decided that it looked best – and was an addition to the card – on the centre of the snowflake. Don’t worry, I’m not going to go crazy and start adding embellishments all over the place, but it was an interesting challenge. I have the reindeer paper clips, I’ll have to try to make a card with them. They are really cute – here’s a close up:

It has to be done, right?

Sleigh Ride Edgelits

I really love the Sleigh Ride Edgelits and how the new precision base plate makes cutting out the intricate shapes much easier. That isn’t to say that I don’t spend some quality time with my paper piercing tool cleaning up a few wisps of card though! Clearly the inspiration for this card came from my tags that I shared on Sunday.

Stampin' Up! Sleigh Ride Edgelits and Softly Falling TIEF and Jingle all the Way

I have a feeling that I will be making quite a few of these cards this year. Trust me when I say that it’s even better in person, the gold against the green is lush. I started with a piece of ordinary whisper white which I ran through the big shot in the Softly Falling embossing folder and then cut out the trees in mossy meadow using the Sleigh Ride Edgelits. After cleaning up the edges a little and using the embossing buddy, I stamped the sentiment from Jingle All the Way in versamark. A quick sprinkle of the gold embossing powder and use of the heat tool produced what I think is the perfect sentiment. Next I glued the whisper white panel to a card base in mossy meadow and then popped the mossy meadow tree piece up on stampin’ dimensionals. I cut little fragments of dimensionals from the edge pieces to pop up the trees. The envelope is lined in last year’s Backgrounds DSP cut out using the Envelope liner framelits.

See you tomorrow,
