Perpetual Birthday Calendar – May

I’ve been meaning to use the May image from the Perpetual Birthday Calendar set this month since I have a bit of a streak going. And then the CAS Colour and Sketches showed up with the double challenge. Normally colour challenges and sketch challenges alternate but since there were five Thursdays in April, this week it’s a sketch AND colour challenge. I thought I’d give it a go despite my usual reluctance to try sketch challenges.

Stampin' Up! Perpetual Birthday Calendar and Sheltering Tree

The challenge banner is:

I took the May image from the set and coloured the various flowers using my Stampin’ Write markers in calypso coral, wisteria wonder and island indigo. After breathing on the stamp to re-moisten it, I stamped it onto my whisper white cardstock and then repeated it another four times across the diagonal. I then found that I had one little island indigo star sticking out too far so added another on the other side to balance it. As Staples says, that was easy! The sentiment is from Sheltering Tree and is stamped in Island indigo. I mounted this piece onto a layer of island indigo to give a skinny mat and then put this onto a wisteria wonder card base. I really love the wisteria wonder but I don’t use it as much as I thought – I’ll have to work on that!

See you tomorrow,

Simplest Painted Blooms card

Here’s another of the series of cards using a sixth of a piece of the Painted Blooms paper. It’s merely mounted on a rose red card base.

Stampin' Up! Painted Blooms

I decided that it needs no added sentiment since it would either be in an odd place and feel wrong or it would cover up the two large flowers which are the focal point. And I like the space on this one. It reminds me that when I used to buy cards, I never went for those with sentiments on! The envelope flap is decorated with a piece of the backgrounds DSP in rose red.

It’s a good thing that it’s a simple card today – I’ve spent time today poring over the new catalogue and deciding what to get in my preorder that I can put in at midnight. Well, midnight mountain time so I think it will be in the morning!

See you tomorrow,

Water coloured birthday card

I know that Rebecca has received her card so I can post it on my blog now. As with yesterday’s card, it’s more water colouring but only for the background this time.

Stampin' Up! Endless Birthday Wishes

I used my aqua painter and the soft sky ink pad to add a wash of colour to the water colour paper, getting fainter as I went down the paper. After it dried, I used lost lagoon to stamp the image from the Endless Birthday Wishes set – holding it down firmly since the water colour paper is rather bumpy and thus is harder to stamp on. I mounted the water colour paper onto a skinny mat of lost lagoon with sticky strip.

The sentiment is also from Endless Birthday Wishes and to get the placement right I stuck down the image first onto a card base of soft sky. Just be careful not to use a block that’s too large and covers the glued on image – it will mess up your sentiment stamping. Yes. I’ve done that! I used lost lagoon again for the stamping.

The envelope is lined with the soft sky backgrounds DSP – I’ve seen the new colour collections replacing these and I really like them. I’ll actually be able to use both sides of the paper instead of only using two of the four patterns as I’ve always done with the backgrounds DSP. And I can order the new DSP on Tuesday!

Moon Lake Blue Tit

As I mentioned a few days ago, one of the perks of being a demonstrator is that you get a sneak peek of the new catalogue a month before it goes live. One of the drawbacks perhaps is seeing what isn’t being carried over from the Occasions catalogue. Moon Lake is one such set; so another one to get more use out of this month before it’s gone. I’m a bit sad that it’s not in the new catalogue because this set seems to made for masculine birthday cards. Julia seems to agree since she wanted this card for her brother in law.

Stampin' Up! Moon Lake

I thought that this was a blue tit and pulled up an image from google and it does seem to be one. At least, I decided to try to colour it that way. I stamped the image on watercolour paper in the jet black stazon and then used marina mist, so saffron, wild wasabi and crumb cake for the water colouring. I mounted the watercolour paper on a piece of basic black using sticky strip. I decided where I wanted this to be mounted on the crumb cake base so that I could determine the position of the sentiment which I wanted to stamp first. The sentiment is from Endless Birthday wishes and is stamped in memento black ink (it’s easier to clean!) . After that, I glued the image onto the card.

See you tomorrow,

Continuing Painted Blooms

I’m going to miss the Painted Blooms DSP and the Painted Petals stamp set which hasn’t made it into the new annual catalogue, sadly. So I’d better use them a lot in the month that I have left!

Stampin' Up! Painted Petals and Painted Blooms

This is the fourth in the series of cards made with one sheet of the 12 by 12 inch Painted Blooms DSP. The sentiment comes from the Painted Petals set and is stamped in blackberry bliss on whisper white. I cut it out using the circles framelits and then cut the next size larger in blackberry bliss for the matting. I glued the DSP piece onto a base of blackberry bliss and then popped the sentiment up on stampin’ dimensionals. The outside flap of the envelope is lined in the backgrounds DSP.
