Silhouetted Summer Silhouettes

Firstly I’d like to thank LeAnne for selecting my card as a cut above at The Paper Players this week. It’s an honour to be recognised.

And on the heels of such recognition, I’m entering another challenge on a new to me blog –  Loves Rubberstamps Challenge blog. This one calls for a black and white card with a touch of colour.

Stampin' Up! Summer Silhouettes

I intended to watercolour the background for this card with an aquapainter until I recalled that the watercolour paper isn’t exactly white. So I got out my sponges instead. I made the template from one of the plastic sheets that the photopolymer stamps come on; I stuck the photopolymers directly onto the case. I cut out a square using a framelit from the squares collections (I needed to add a piece of cardstock since the plastic is so thin) and then carefully slid the framelit so that it was only overlapping a little bit (so that I could line it up) before cutting a second square. I can see a lot of uses for this template…

I then used sponges and crushed curry and pumpkin pie to make the background. The two step stamping from Summer Silhouettes is stamped in the momento tuxedo black ink as is the sentiment from A Dozen Thoughts. To keep this card clean and simple, I mounted the whisper white cardstock onto a base of whisper white. The envelope is dressed up with the backgrounds DSP on the back flap.

Another Alternative for July’s Kit

I’m still playing with the July Paper Pumpkin kit that I recently purchased. We had a lot of fun with this at a recent class. Paper Pumpkin July 2014 alternative

I stuck the grey and white striped sticker towards the bottom of the card (rather than right at the bottom as in the instructions) and then positioned the soft sky coloured WISH stickers right onto the striped band. It gave a different look and was easy to line them up! The stamped sentiment above is stamped in blackberry bliss and uses a couple of the stamps from the kit. Rather than use any twine for my star, I elected to just stick it on to the card and stamp a little blackberry bliss star (again from the kit’s stamp set) inside it.

It was really fun to watch the face of a first time stamper as she made this card; the joy and satisfaction as she looked at something that she liked that she had made was awesome.

See you tomorrow,

Get Your Santa On!!

No, it’s not Christmas yet, don’t worry, but I found a couple of year long Christmas card challenges and decided to make a card for them.

Stampin' Up! Get your santa on

There’s Sweet Stampin’ Christmas who want a cute Christmas card and also Holly Jolly who want a clean and simple Christmas card. This one, where I envision Santa Claus looking in his closet for something to wear seems to fit both challenges.

I started by using watercolour paper and making the hanging pole using a ruler and a basic black stampin’ write marker and then stamped the santa image in stazon black. I then used the memento black to colour in the boots using my aquapainter. The suits were watercoloured again using my aquapainter and this time, real red. The sentiment is from the set Good Greetings and stamped in real red also. I then glued the watercolour paper to a base of real red. I’m pleased with this one, it makes me smile. And that’s always a good thing!

See you tomorrow,

Finally it’s here!!

My Paper Pumpkin May 2015 kit finally arrived on Wednesday. Apparently Randolph is in the back of beyond and it takes extra days to get here! Here’s the video showing this month’s kit

I’m planning to get together with my friend Julia to put the kit together in the next week or so, but I keep wanting to check out the kit and come up with some alternatives. Alternatives are so much fun. I don’t need six cards the same, variety is the key for me.

It’s so awesome to get a new stamp set – I’ve been having loads of fun with one of the old kits I just purchased, the July 2014 one. I used it last night with some friends and blackberry bliss and now it’s impossible to lose the stamps since they are stained pink! Very useful.

There’s a printout on the demo site that will make a sleeve for a case to put your Paper Pumpkin stamp sets in. I need to print it soon!

Have fun stamping, and see you tomorrow,

Liz

Celebrate Today for Just Us Girls

I found a new (to me) challenge site this week, Just Us Girls and they are running a colour challenge, my favourite.

Stampin' Up! Celebrate Today

It was fairly tricky to decide which colours to use since there’s a lot of latitude in the challenge guidelines. Here’s the challenge banner:

So not only is there choice of which colours from the list to use, there’s also the choice of WHICH of the many shades to use. I had lost lagoon out on my table already and decided to use hello honey with it. That meant it was an easy decision to pull the green from the 2014 in colours to go with them. I punched out the balloon shapes from the three cardstocks using the balloon framelits and after playing around with them a little, decided to use words from the Celebrate Today stamp set to decorate them. They were stamped in memento black ink so as to show on the mossy meadow. The other sentiment, celebrate, is also from Celebrate Today and I stamped it in Mossy Meadow on very vanilla. I was wondering what to do about the balloon strings – I’d just received this month’s Paper Pumpkin which has a balloon stamp and a balloon string stamp – when I remembered that I’d got thick bakers twine in the in colours during sale-a-bration. Perfect!

I stuck the lost lagoon and hello honey balloons down with tombow glue, fixing the end of the twine with snail. The mossy meadow balloon is popped up with stampin’ dimensionals. The dangling balloon strings looked a bit untidy so I took another piece of mossy meadow bakers twine and tied a bow around the strings, fixing the back of the bow in place with a glue dot.

The back flap of the envelope is decorated with a strip of paper from the Backgrounds DSP.

See you tomorrow,

Liz
