Happy Thanksgiving to anyone who is celebrating it today although I’m sharing a Christmas card today! However I am thankful to my sister for bringing this card with her earlier this month because I then had her show me how she made it. I changed it a little by refusing to add glitter. If you want to see her version, here’s the link.
First we made the background by sponging blushing bride onto whisper white going up about a third of the way up the card. Then we added lost lagoon and finally night of navy. We then used a water spritzer and sprayed the card a couple of times to get the starry effect. If you wanted more, you could wet your fingers and flick more water at the card, but I stopped with a couple of spritzes. We put the background aside to dry, weighed down with the wooden stamp set. Then we cut out the trees in both whisper white and night of navy. Caro had already cut the card to the appropriate heights – the night of navy is shorter than the whisper white. I love how the sentiments in Jingle all the way match with the curve of the Sleigh Ride edgelits and picked silent night this time. After that it was a matter of constructing the card. I lined the envelope using the regals designer series paper and the envelope liners framelits.
Caro has made a dozen or so of these and says that they are all different which I can easily believe. The three that Caro, Julia and I made at the crop were all different.
It’s been quite a rough year but of course there have also been a lot of things about which to be grateful and today is a good day to reflect on them. I was extremely lucky to be able to spend about 8 weeks in Spain at the beginning of the year when I was between jobs. I met some great people and learned some Spanish and had a really wonderful time. I know that a lot of people wouldn’t have had that option. I’m grateful that I found a new job and one that I really like – especially with the short commute – where the people are great and were tremendously kind when my mother died. I’m also thankful that the interviewer I feared the most (due to it being on the phone which I do not like, thankfully there was only one of those) has become a good friend of mine. I’m thankful that I can still run after dropping a sushi knife on my foot. It could have been much worse than tendon surgery. And I’m very thankful that I have found card making. Playing with ink and card and stamps (and writing about it) is tremendously satisfying. I never imagined that I was at all creative and exploring this creative side is exciting.
I’m also thankful that I finally got my online shop working along with the scrolling list of products that you’d need to create this card.
So what are you thankful for today?
See you tomorrow,
Liz
A lovely post which has made think ab t what I’m thankful for. My family of course are right up there, sister ?
