This week it’s a sketch challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches and I’m finding that I’m starting to prefer sketches over colours. It will be interesting to see how next week goes since it’s a double – sketch and colours!
Here’s this week’s banner:
I just used a single colour – tangelo twist. This is a colour I can live without, we have other oranges. As you can tell, I’m trying to prepare myself for losing the 2014-2016 colours! This is one of the easier ones to lose. I sprayed a piece of watercolour paper with water and then used my aquapainter to spread tangelo twist onto it ensuring that I had an ombre effect going on – i.e. the colour went from saturated to less saturated. I then used my elegant butterfly punch to cut out a number of butterflies (I have enough to make at least one more card!).
This is actually my third attempt. The first one had a different sentiment and I wasn’t 100% convinced. After the next, I decided that I wanted to stamp off the sentiment once. So on the third go, I got what I wanted. The sentiment from Endless Birthday Wishes stamped off once before getting a less intense tangelo twist sentiment on the very vanilla. Then I attached the butterflies with glue dots in order of colour intensity and once they were attached, I bent the wings up a little to give the impression of movement.
The envelope is lined with some retired Confetti Celebration DSP using the envelope liners framelits to cut it out. Lining envelopes is definitely a great use of retired DSP.
I hope that you’ll hop over to the challenge blog and see what the rest of the Design Team have made to inspire you and that you’ll have a go and I’ll see your cards in the gallery.
If you want to get any of the tangelo twist items – card stock, ink pad, refill, ribbon etc. now is the time to strike. Not only will you be able to (potentially) get free Sale-a-bration items but you’re pretty much guaranteed that they are in stock. As soon as the retiring list comes out, these in colours will disappear almost immediately. So if you need them, get them now!
Finally – a big welcome to my new blog subscriber, I’m so glad that you joined us.
See you tomorrow,
Liz
LOVE the ombre effect on the cascade of butterflies and the dimension too of their wings. Beautifully done. Hugs Bev x
Yes, this. This all day!
This is gorgeous! Perfectly CAS and the gradient peach is wonderful.
Fabulous cascade of butterflies and the ombre effect is beautiful. Oranges are not my most favourite colours to use either, but you’ve persuaded me they can look good.
This is so beautiful! I love how the butterflies are fluttering around on your card!
These butterflies are so dreamy! Beautiful subtle colouring too

This is gorgeous, Liz! Beautifully proportioned and a wonderful take on the sketch. The ombré effect is stunning. Caro x
I’m not a huge fan of orange either but your ombre butterfly card is stunning and a great take on the sketch. I have made a similar card for my daughter’s birthday using rainbow coloured butterflies which I’ll post later in the week. Stef x
You’ve made orange look beautiful! I love the delicate ombre cascade of butterflies fluttering along the length of your card!
